Flexible desk lamp

Back to projects

I had come up with the idea of this for a work light to inspect things closer by provinding more light. I hate designing projects that other people want to repeat as some of the components are hard to get in other places or simply not available or aren't very common, i.e, especially for this project, 10Watt T8 fluorescent lamps are not common over in the USA, and the chokes that I used are designed for use in Australia (240V 50HZ) and will have different footprints than others. To combat this problem I have decided to not release any dimensions and it is up to you to decide how big it is.

It is flexible in two ways:

  1. It has a flexible arm so the head can move around at will.
  2. The designs are flexible so you can choose the lamp, physical size and the gearing, it really is flexible.
It is made out of two parts, the head and the base. The head is the part that houses the lamp and the required socket for the lamp and the base is the part that contains the control gear, I have chosen to put the gear in the bottom for good weight distribution as the base weights a fair bit but so it won't top heavy with the gear in the head.
