FURRY CREATURES

Koalas eat only the leaves of certain types of eucalypt trees storing them in special cheek pouches. They obtain all their moisture form eating these leaves and rarely drink water.

In a marsupial, such as the kangaroo, the pouch acts as an outer womb where the young animal continues its development.

These cute creatures were such good burrowers that there used to be a government bounty on thier heads!Fortunately those days are long gone.

Some marsupials are nocturnal creatures such as these two and forage for food at night. The name Tasmanian "devil" orginates from the hissing, screeching and growling noises they make when cornered.

The Echnida,is an egg laying marsupial, and along with the platypus, belongs to the monotreme family, It lays eggs and suckles its young, keeping the egg in its pouch until the embyro hatches.

The dingo preys on wildlife as well as livestock such as sheep in the outback. Many thousands of miles of fencing have been erected to prevent stock losses from dingo attacks.
