A joint venture here by two Aussie singers/musicians: Steve Kilbey of The Church fame and G. W. McLennan of The Go Betweens. These two musicians are very distinct in approach, and such a collaboration could be either extremely successful, or a dismal failure, but definitely interesting. Kilbey is pulling towards the experimental pop sound of his own band. McLennan is pulling the other way for tuneful pop. The result is victorious for both, because its an experimental album which doesnt sound like goat farting (which is sadly common). The interesting aspect of it all is the fact that the album is not one dimensional, that is, a certain balance which is common for all (or most) songs. The balance shifts all along and produces songs of all kinds, like the edgy, alienating, "Every Hour God Sends" and "Birdowner (as Seen on TV)", or the melodic "Civil War Lament" and "Providence", the poppy "Thought I was over You" (the most McLennan-ish track) and "Didnt Know Where I was" or the Atmospheric "Number Eleven".
This ones a true winner for the open-minded.
