At Cold Mountain Penitentiary, along the lonely stretch of cells known as the Green Mile, killers await death strapped in "Old Sparky." John Coffey, a large black man is sentenced to death for the killing of two young girls. A quiet and slightly slow man, he spends time sitting and crying, while other prisoners like Delacroix spend time with other interests such as his pet mouse.
