alt.legend(s).atlantis FAQ

Welcome!   Recent changes to the "ownership" of the newsgroup alt.legend.atlantis has necessitated a change in FAQs; this is the new one, and it is also intended for the group alt.legends.atlantis (look closely to see the difference in the two...).  (N.B.: I am not able to access alt.legendS.atlantis (not carried by my ISP), and so therefore I can't post nor monitor posts there; please use *.legend.* instead -- at least if you want my input...  ;) )

For those of you not exactly "new" to the former group, whom may have been expecting something completely different, please see our first question.  Everyone else may be interested in the remainder of the questions, and/or following up our links to websites on Atlantis.

Please e-mail the author for enquiries, etc., and check our Guidelines before posting.

Enjoy!

Q: I thought this was a CoT group.  Where did everybody go?

A: The CoT very graciously gave this group to us for topical discussion, and have moved elsewhere.   Check for them on BOOBS, or write to [email protected].  If you are not a present or past CoT, CoTL, or Overlord, you may receive a response saying "none of your business".

Q: What is this group for?

A: Both *.*.atlantis groups are for the discussion of the legend of Atlantis and, at least at present, other "lost civilisations" such as Lemuria, Ys, and so on.

Q: What is Atlantis?

A: The story of Atlantis, the "Lost Continent", comes to us from Plato, c. the 5th century BCE.  He described it in his Dialogue of Critias as a rich, culturally advanced but corrupt realm of great power, that was sunk beneath the ocean after a series of great cataclysms detroyed it.

Q: Did (Does) Atlantis really exist?

A: That is what our newsgroups are intended to discuss.  You can find more information and theories to prepare you for the discussion and help you to form your own opinion using our links.

Q: Do I need permission to post in *.*.atlantis?

A: No; neither group is moderated, nor is there a "club" or some-such to join.  However, we do ask that you respect our Guidelines.

We look forward to your participation!

Guidelines for Posting in ALA

1) Remain on Topic.  While discussions of the sort contemplated by the subject matter of "lost civilisations" in general is acceptable, esoteric or "scientific" remonstrations are discouraged.   That is, when a thread drifts from how Atlantis could have sunk through a crustal or polar/magnetic shift to an argument over plate tectonics, geology, astronomy, and the like, the subject would then be considered "off-topic" for ALA.  Similarly, a contemplation of how the ancient Egyptians could have made the pyramids without the help of aliens (or not) may be off-topic.  But since ALA is not particluarly "busy" at this time, a certain amount of leeway will be granted for such debates.  However, should such threads begin to take up band-width better spent on more topical conversations, then the Keeper of the Sacred Keys may intervene with a request to suspend it.

2) Respect Other Posters.   This will be the most rigidly enforced rule of the NG.   Posters who are rude, pedantic, obnoxious, or obvious trollers, will not be tolerated.

3) Have Fun!  'Nuff said.  :)
