Biography: Simone Weil

1909: Born in Paris, February 3rd.
Educated at the Lycee Henri IV Ecole Normale Superieure.
1933-1934: Taught philosophy at Le Puy in a girls school at Roanne.
1936: Joined Republican forces in Spanish Civil War.
1938: Had first mystical experience.
1942: Left France and joined Free French Forces (FFF) in London.
While there was commissioned by General de Gaulle (head of FFF) to write report on duties/privileges of French in a France at Peace.
Wrote study of Need for Security (The Need for Roots).
Family escaped to U. S. A.
1943: Died of tuberculosis August 24th at a sanatorium in Ashford, VA.
1948: Gravity & Grace published (trans. 1952).
1949: The Need for Roots published (trans. 1952).
1950: Waiting for God published (trans. 1951).
1951-56: Three volumes of Cashiers.
1953: Oppression & Liberty (trans. 1958).
1956: Notebooks--two volumes.
1957: Essays on Politics published.
