What is the new direction taken by the American Artist?

Do I love music when I paint? Oh yeah!

What is the new direction taken by the American Artist?

WELCOME TO QUESTER'S ARTIST QUARTERS, THE ATHENS-OLYMPUS SITE.

THIS FIRST ROOM OF OUR GALLERY IS RATHER ECLECTIC IN SUBJECT MATTER

THERE IS SOMETHING CHILD-LIKE ABOUT PRIMARY COLORS. PRIMITIVE MIGHT BE ANOTHER WORD FOR IT

What Is Beautiful? What is esthetically pleasing? It must go back to one's outlook on life. However, it must be granted that there is a universal-ness about certain pleasing figures or scenes. Classical might be a better term for it.

This is early work, one of the first done. New York harbor in the early 1920's. Now the show may begin. I did this painting while a senior in college in 1953. Click on the small picture and see more detail in a larger one.

Both the New York scene and this next canvas was done with oil rather than a quicker drying medium. Since I loved to push a lot of pigment around with the brush this canvas came out thick with paint and dark in color. Even with a digital camera I found it hard to get a good likeness of it. See what I mean? After finishing this canvas, I invested in acrylic paint and found it easier to work with. I was a senior in college when I did this and hoped to do at least one worthy canvas a year. It would work out to more like one every 4th year or so.

Don Quixote and Sancho always interested me. I even collected their carved wooden figurines from Spain when I was first there in 1963 ten years after I painted this picture. You'll be lucky to find the horse and the donkey in the picture.

Some years passed before I began experimenting again with my art work. There came a time of searching for style. Jackson Pollack had some influence on this early work. This one is called: TIME AND SPACE and was done in the 1960s.
Or take for instance this one, called YIN/YANG, the soul's light and darkside.

After a certain age we do become rather genderless and that is why I call this picture "Polymorphus". Can you tell whether this next picture is done of an elderly woman or is it a man? This was painted in 1974
Or how about Vanessa Redgrave who was one of my favorite English actresses. This painting was done in 1974.>

Here we have a blue tern caught in a V-for victory that shows unusual symmetry-- a usual for nature. It was painted in 1980.

One thing a quester must do is go to those places great artists have lived, the Boticelli's and Goyas. The two scenes depicted when clicked upon are in Italy and Spain. Half the fun of questing is being there on site. The statue of David by Michaelangelo stands in front of this tower in the middle of Florence, Italy. I sat alongside the Arno River looking up a certain street and painted this in 1969. This next scene was found along the Coast de Brava at Pineda de Mar, Spain. My female companion went swiming and then sunbathing while I looked the other way and painted what I saw from our beach area in 1972. Spanish sky is magical and cries out for painting.

Time to go to the next room in our gallery.
