"Election/Decision/Vote/President/Whatever 2000"

2-17-00 First off, let me say that I choose the title of this short article because I was tired of seeing all of the different networks name this contest with all these goofy names. The battle for "The Big Office" is really heating up! This Saturday, South Carolinians (for lack of a better term) cast their vote in the Republican primary to decide who their favorite Republican candidate is. A similar event will take place on "Super Tuesday" when primaries are held in multiple states, including The Golden State: California. But here's where the process get's weird.

Democrats and Independents are allowed to vote in the Republican primaries (and vice versa) in all of these states even though their votes don't count! In CA, Democrats can vote for Republicans and vice versa, but only the votes cast from your own party will count towards receiving the delegates! And in CA, it's a "winner-take-all" primary (whoever gets the majority vote, receives ALL of California's delegates)! This is insane! If a guy appeals to 49% of the state, why shouldn't he get 49% of the state's representation?!?!? The whole election process is no longer about the American people, The Big Office, or even the issues. Its about raising as much money, slinging as much mud, and receiving as many endorsements as possible. George Bush seems to be doing great in all of those categories and so is Gore.

I won't endorse anyone on this website yet. The goal of this website has always been to inform you about issues that should matter and be important to everyone. So I want to give you the opportunity to make your own choice. Here are the websites of the major Presidential candidates. Learn about what they stand for, and then please, VOTE! Vote your conscience, not "down party lines". 70% of this country believes in BOTH "left" and "right" ideals, so if you are part of that 70%, do the smart thing and vote for who you think is right for the country, not for the party!
