Jim Irwin joined NASA in 1966, following a career as a well-established Air Force test pilot. His only mission was aboard Apollo XV as LMP with his two crewmates Dave Scott (CDR) &
Al Worden (CMP). During this mission, Irwin became the 8th man to walk on the Moon's surface. While there, he and Scott enjoyed the first powered exploration of the surface using the Lunar Rover. Upon leaving NASA, Irwin founded a religious-based organization known as the "High Flight Foundation." He authored a biography entitled "To Rule the Night" and his wife, Mary, also wrote a book about their life's experiences entitled ""The Moon is not Enough." Sadly, Irwin passed away in 1991 after suffering a second heart attack.
