This is a look at our governments during the various periods of our history and their significance in our Nation's development. From Aguinaldo's time until the present, the Philippine Republic has undergone five fundamental changes, That is, for each Republic a new Constitution was drafted. This series divides the last hundred years into periods roughly divided by these five phases in the changing Republic including two other transitional phases in its history so as to provide a cohesive continuum of events.

Unlike the choppy litany of events, dates and names used to describe our history, this series will focus on the forces behind our history, the motivations of the people involved and the relationship of events and circumstances that would lead to our national situation at present.
