Palatine Hill is one of the Seven Hills of Rome. The hill is located between the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus. This hill was
supposedly the site of the original Roman settlement. Romulus and Remus
were said to have been taken care of by the she wolf on the northwest slope of the hill, in a cave called the
Lupercal. According to legend, this was the hill where Romulus founded the city of Rome. Throughout the
Republic, many temples and some of the finest private houses in Rome were built upon this hill. Some
emperors even built their palaces upon it. Nero included the entire hill within
the precincts of his Aurea Domus (Golden House), which was built after the fire of AD 64. After the
Emperor Alexander Severus,Palatine Hill was no longer an imperial
residence.
