Patrick's road to the NHL

 

Patrick was 15 years old during his last year of bantam hockey in Swift Current. He scored 72 goals and had 95 assists in 53 games.

In the 1994 bantam draft, Patrick was the Seattle Thunderbirds first pick, sixth overall.

Patrick scored his first WHL goal on September 30, 1995 in his fourth WHL game. He was named WHL Rookie of the Month in both December and March. Patrick was the only Thunderbird to play in all 72 regular season games, during which he scored 32 goals and 42 assists for a total of 74 points. He led Seattle in scoring as a 16-year-old rookie and was named the Thunderbirds Most Valuable Player and the WHL's Western Division Rookie of the Year for the 1995-1996 season.

During the 1996-1997 season, Patrick played 71 games and scored 51 goals and had 74 assists for a total of 125 points. He was third in scoring in the WHL and was named the 1996-1997 WHL West Division Player of the year.

Patrick was the second overall pick by the San Jose Sharks on June 21, 1997 during the NHL entry draft. He was the youngest player drafted that day, was the youngest player during the 1997-98 NHL season and holds the record as the youngest active Shark.

During his rookie NHL season, Patrick played in 74 games and scored 13 goals and had 19 assists for 32 points.

First NHL goal October 19, 1997 against Phoenix.

First 2 point game on November 18, 1997 against Anaheim, when he scored 2 goals.

First 3 point game on March 5, 1998 against Detroit, when he scored 1 goal and had 2 assists.

Patrick played his first NHL playoff game on Sunday April 26, 1998 and had an assist. He played in a total of 5 games during the '97-98 playoffs.

Patrick finished his Sophmore season with 21 goals and 24 assists for a total of 45 points (third in goals on the team to Joe Murphy and Jeff Friesen).

Patrick scored his first playoff goal on April 30, 1999 against Colorado's Patrick Roy and currently has 1 goal and 1 assist in the 1999 playoffs.
