C. I. SCOFIELD

The following note [1] from C. I. Scofield was addressed to his friend Gaebelein.

The Lotos Club

New York

2 Sept. 05

"My beloved Brother:

"By all means follow your own views of prophetic analysis. I sit at your feet when it comes to prophecy, & congratulate in advance the future readers of my Bible on having in their hands a safe, clear, sane guide through what to most is a labyrinth."

Yours lovingly in Christ

Scofield

As chief organizer of "Dispensationalism" Scofield writes above, "By all means follow your own views of prophetic analysis" which does not appear to be "all that demanding" that "everyone in Christendom" believe "his Bible"!

Contrast that with the beligerant attitudes of many "salesmen\promoters" of "Dispensationalism" today! They take his work and treat it as Pure Gospel! They recommend Scofields' prognostications even more than Scofield did to his own friend!

FOOTNOTES

[1] We have in our possesion a copy of this note written in Scofields' own hand. It is unquestionably a true quote of Scofield. A. C. Gaebelein wrote that "Matthew Henry was in darkness" with regard to his Old Testament prophetic teachugs. All the founders of Dispensationalism railed against Matthew Henry. They also completely rejected the Westminister Confession of Faiths' statements such as this one:

"The covenant was differently administered in the time of the law, and in the time of the gospel: under the law it was administered by promises, prophecies, sacrifices, circumcision, the paschal lamb, and other types and ordinances delivered to the people of the Jews, all foresignifying Christ to come, which were for that time sufficient and efficacious, through the operation of the Spirit, to instruct and build up the elect in faith in the promised Messiah, by whom they had full remission of sins, and eternal salvation, and is called the Old Testament.

"Under the gospel, when Christ the substance was exhibited, the ordinances in which this covenant is dispensed are the preaching of the Word, and the administration of the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper; which, though fewer in number, and administered with more simplicity and less outward glory, yet in them it is held forth in more fiulness, evidence, and spiritual efficacy, to all nations, both Jews and Gentiles; and is called the New Testament. There are not therefore two covenants of grace differing in substance, but one and the same under various dispensations." (from The Westminister Confession of Faith)

Scofield, Darby and the others sought to "split" everything into completely different "Covenants" and "Ages" and this they did, but not without throwing out and railing against The Westminister Confession at every opportunity.

[2] "Scofields' Bible" was instrumental in spreading the doctrines of Dispensationalism in the United States. He had virtually no knowledge of the original languages of Scripture.

Would the Churches have been forwarned by men of G-d before this "upsurge" of "date, time and season setters"?

The New Testament clearly says that "no man knows the day or hour", or "the times and seasons" which are in the Fathers' Hands! "...no, not the Angels in Heaven, but My Father only." Yet still we have groups figuring "prophetic signs of the times", saying "the Rapture is almost upon us according to this headline!", to "rev up" their followers, meanwhile Scripture says "no sign will be given"?! Are people not thinking? The announcement of the "sign" itself and the non-appearance of the "Darby Rapture" with that "sign" means only that the "sign" they just announced did NOT BRING their Rapture!

Here is a true prophetic quote 150 years prior to curiosities of "Dispensationalim":

Those that are most inquisitive concerning the secret things which belong not to them are most easily imposed upon by seducers. II Thessalonians 2:3...Seducers are more dangerous enemies to the Church than persecutors. (Matthew Henry. "Matthew Henry's Commentaries": Matthew to John. Volume V. Mclean, Virginia. Macdonald Publishing (reprint). First Published: 1706. page 347)

Or how about this one. The belief held by the Churches from old-time that the Book of Revelation was written BEFORE 70 A.D. to warn the Jews about the coming destruction? Dispensationalists adamantly insist the Book was written AFTER 70 A.D., claiming its prophecies are all FUTURE!

Here is Matthew Henry on the subject of the time of the writing of the Book of Revelation:

Christ Himself Prophesied of the destruction of Jerusalem; and, about the time in which that was accomplished, He entrusted the Apostle John with this Book of Revelation, to deliver it to the Church as a prediction of the most important events that should happen to it to the end of time, for the support of the Faith of His people and the direction of their hope. (ibid. Introduction, Volume VI, p. 1118)

Is it now any wonder why the "Futurist" founders of Dispensationalism rejected Matthew Henry?
