According to the LA Times, while appearing at a preview screening of the Lone Gunmen on Friday night at the Beverly Hills' Museum of Television & Radio, a fan in attendance asked Carter if David Duchovny would be coming back next year.
Carter is said to have answered, "He has not ruled it out, but if he does come back, it would be in a more limited way than he's done for the eighth [current] season."
He added, "Banning anything unforeseen, [the series] should be back for a ninth season. But if it's not, the movie will follow right after the eighth season."

While talking to Brian Hartigan for TV Guide Canada, Harwood admits that he had some initial doubts about how series spin-off featuring the paranoid trio carrying the whole load would work, saying, "we won't have to - you'll find enough deep-seated paranoia to keep a good psychiatrist in caviar for life."
The three principal characters area all played by Canadians, which has put the actors through some strange paces, as Harwood notes, "There's a line in the pilot episode where Tom [Braidwood] comments about fighting for `truth, justice and the American way,' and after he read the line, he turned to me and said: `Can you believe we're two Canadians saying this stuff?'"
Regarding his role of Byers, on the surface seeming to be the most normal of the trio, the actor says, "Byers must be pretty paranoid or else he wouldn't walk around dressed like that."
Harwood also takes issue with the show being described as something like "Mission: Impossible with geeks", saying, "Gene Roddenberry had to first describe Star Trek as 'Wagon Train to the stars.' Now, I ask you, was it anything like that? Not really. So take the Mission: Impossible comparison with a grain of salt."

As we all know, Sunday nights episode was the last until April 1st. From now until then we're going to have three episodes of the new Lone Gunmen show (which I hope you all watch) and a preempted sunday. I think last nights episode was i very /i good so here are some pictures from OS. I would have some from The Haven (which has the best screen captures I think), but once again, their picture page won't load. Click on them to see the full picture. The first one is great. While talking to TV Guide Online, Carter hinted at what we can expect to see happen on the February 25th episode, saying, "We will figure out what's happened to Mulder to an extent. There will be a most shocking discovery, one we think cannot be happening but it is."
Regarding the eighth season's finale, Carter, once again,
that the coming two-parter "will be a cliffhanger either for
next season, if we return, or for the movie." Carter also let
drop that the delivery of her baby will be "a subject of serious
consequence."

In an interview with TV Guide magazine, Carter said, "May's two-hour season finale will be a cliffhanger, either for next season, if we return, or for the movie."
In addition, in an interview with the Hartford Courant, Carter said the plan for the series is to turn it into a movie franchise but "it's kind of in the talking stages."

These are thrilling, frustrating, patience- testing days for fans of "The X-Files." The Fox show's eighth season, which began in November, has been the first without David Duchovny playing Agent Fox Mulder, lonely but sexy believer in all things paranormal and extraterrestrial as a weekly fixture. Gillian Anderson, as Agent Dana Scully, M.D., has top billing now. And there's a new guy in town: Robert Patrick as Agent John Doggett, Scully's by-the-book partner. This month Mr. Duchovny appears (more or less) in three episodes, the last one next Sunday. Tonight: Who or what is the father of the baby Scully is carrying?

Henriksen added that he'd love to team up with his old friend, Robert Patrick, on Carter's other gig, The X-Files. Henriksen appeared on the series as Black in a crossover episode a while back. "I'd like to work with Robert Patrick in The X-Files, but nobody's approached me about it," Henriksen said. "I like Robert a lot. We did a film together years ago, but he's a really cool guy. I'd love to go back on The X-Files."

The entire cast and crew--including gorilla-suited extras--fled Evolution's Manhattan Beach, Calif., set when a 15-foot fireball ignited a plastic tree, TV Guide reported. "We were literally chased out of the studio by a giant comic fireball," Moore said. "It was really quite safe. The fire department handled it so well, and all the guys in the gorilla suits were fine, because I was like, 'What about the guys in the gorilla suits?' I was really worried about them, because I thought, 'You're in a big rubber suit ... smoke inhalation.' It ended up being very silly."

Nutter added, "That's another aspect that's important, too: I want to surprise the audience. When you look at something like three alien teen-agers in Roswell, New Mexico, a lot of people are going to laugh it off and not think much of it, but when they actually stopped to watch the pilot, it was surprising to a lot of people. It was touted as one of the top 10 shows of the season. That's what the key is: to try and do something that kind of balances the intelligence and also the emotional quotient to make them both very high."
Nutter said he looks at the series--which tells the story of 15-year-old Clark Kent--as a show about a young man who has a secret. "A lot of young people today can relate to that, because young kids have secrets and things they can't tell other people," Nutter said. "And it's about a young boy who's growing into a man. Clark's abilities are progressing, and they're blossoming in many respects on the show. In the show we're going to introduce Lana Lang, Lex Luthor and a more involved Jonathan and Martha Kent. We're also going to justify the mythology that you've heard about and thought about. There's lots of origin justifying in the pilot. I was really quite proud of the script and where it goes." Smallville debuts in the fall.

While talking to Fandom.com's Smilin' Jack Ruby, the actors touched upon a number of points regarding the coming show, as follows:
What's the show's emphasis?
Braidwood: Oh, yeah, it's quite different. It doesn't go into the spooky realm or the alien realm. It's aimed at the conspiracy realm.
Haglund: Urban myth kind of thing. All those stories that you've heard about - we go investigate. We're taking it from the newspaper that we run, The Lone Gunmen, so we're like investigative journalists going into these things so it's like Mission: Impossible with us three.

I've been informed via a new email that the X-Files board will =NOT= be going away. That's good news, of course! However, I do not yet have any information on details. Waiting for more information to share.Basically, I'm as clueless as you all except for the assertion that the forum will remain.
FOX definitely is aware of the avid fanbase since yesterday afternoon. smiles. Your calls and emails have had them hopping. So, give them a break until we find out further information.

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell everyone Fox Broadcasting has decided to close their message boards effective some time today or tomorrow. At that time Prospero will make the boards read-only. Fox may continue the boards if they reach an agreement with Prospero, but they've indicated that they would like Prospero to moderate them if that does happen. Which basically means that Maggie, Kristin and myself will no longer be your moderators unless Prospero makes us an offer we can't refuse. But I'm not holding my breath. I hope that Maggie can get on here and post a note to you as well before the board closes, but if she can't I'm sure she'd say the same thing. I tried to call her to let her know about this, but she was sleeping and may not receive the email in time to say goodbye.I'm really not sure if it was kosher for me to post this note, and The Powers That Be may delete it. Hopefully many of you will see it first if that happens. But I wanted to give you ample warning that this was about to happen, because I know many of you have become good friends with each other, almost like family. I don't think it would be fair for you to suddenly be cut off with no warning. If I get in trouble, so be it. What can they do, fire me? Grin.
It has been my absolute privelege to get to know many of you this past year, and I will miss you a lot. You can always email me at my personal email adress, at [email protected] .
Take care, my friends.
Patty Williams "
And then there was a panic at the OS. Hundreds and hundres of posts about the message board closing down. There was a riot (and I admit that I was part of it) so Patty posted one more time.
"From: Patty Williams - Moderator (PMWILLIAMS) 4:20 pm

Wow, sorry to start a panic...that wasn't my intention. Several years ago I was a regular in the music forum on NVN (an online service similiar to GEnie, Prodigy, etc.). One day I went to log on and NVN was gone completely .. no warning, no message, nothing. I'll never forget that feeling of panic, being cut off from my friends, and trying to find a new place where we could meet up again. So I didn't want that to happen to you guys too. I only hoped this small warning could give you time to figure something out.Anyway as stated in my first note, Fox will most likely re-open the forums sometime soon. I'm sure they know they have a good thing going here. :) But Prospero will be in charge of moderating the boards if that happens, and I know nothing about what it will involve, just that the three of us won't be doing it anymore. And yes, this affects ALL the television show boards, not just X-Files. Also the message boards for the other Fox divisions, Fox Sports and Fox News, were recently shut down.
Take care,
Patty"
While talking to Ian Spelling for his syndicated Inside Trek & Sci Fi column, Gish talks about getting the role of FBI agent Monica Reyes, saying, "I don't think you could be a citizen of this country and not at least know about The X-Files. I had watched the show for the first two or three seasons, even though I'm not much of a television watcher...So this was kind of a surprise when I heard about it, but it was a welcome one. The X-Files is obviously such a high-caliber show. I jumped at the chance."
Regarding her role, Gish says, "Reyes has a bent for spirituality. In the context of a science-oriented show like The X-Files, I get to bring in spirit dialogue. It's wonderful for me, because it's a nice intersection of a professional interest and a personal interest.
"I like to meditate. I'm very curious about religions. Being able to bring that into The X-Files is really exciting.
"As far as the dialogue, though, I had to fire up some new brain synapses to get the technical jargon going."
Gish' debut episode also features the return of David Duchovny. On that point, Gish says, "I didn't have scenes with him, per se."
The February 25th episode won't be her sole appearance on the show this year, as Gish reveals, "I'll be doing four episodes this season. I'm in episodes 14, 17, 21 and 22, and if the show does in fact return next year, then I'll be back for more."
Heading off any potential negative rumors, Gish also notes that her character was not created as a replacement for a potentially departing Gillian Anderson, saying, "And it has nothing to do with replacing Gillian. Chris even made a statement about that. It's just adding another color to the palette - Reyes is just another layer...It feels like a good fit."
The latest effort from the creative team behind The X-Files, The Lone Gumen debuts in March with its first four episodes; that same month, X-Files will step aside so that Gunmen can gain maximum exposure in the coveted Sunday, 9pm time slot. The series starts Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund - each of whome assumes his colorful, off-kilter persona from The X-Files.

This is from EW.com.
In years past, the Academy has shown a refreshing willingness to reward television actresses who shed their small-screen skin and shine on film (see ''Mad About You'''s Helen Hunt). The TV star who broke her own mold most dramatically this year is certainly GILLIAN ANDERSON, who left ''The X-Files''' Agent Scully back at her D.C. headquarters to become Lily Bart, the New York social climber who falls from grace in ''The House of Mirth.'' Radiant one moment and utterly distraught the next, Anderson proved that her post-TV career is definitely out there.
There's little of Scully in Anderson's portrayal of Lily Bart, the illfated turn-of-the-century socialite, in the film version of Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth. The setting is a gilded milieu into which one critic wrote, the 32-year-old actress "fits beautifully."
Although Anderson says it was "just a fluke" that she got the Bart part, she adds definitively that "I want to be in film." That means an X-Files exit for her come 2002 and more time with 6-year-old daughter Piper, who did alot of growing up on the set of the series. (Its creator Chris Carter is her godfather; Dad is Anderson's ex-hubby, Clyde Klotz, an art director.) "It's not as easy to occupy her in my trailer as it was when we was 2," says her mommy, sounding just a tad X-hausted. By mark Dagostino
I think I was caught off guard by the worry," Leoni said in an interview in Sunday's Newsday. "I remember saying to my mom, 'I don't know if I'll ever sleep deeply again.'"
Leoni, wife of "X-Files" star David Duchovny, gained 60 pounds while pregnant with her daughter Madeleine, now almost 2, and savored every calorie.
"I enjoyed every burger along the way," Leoni said. "Before the pregnancy, I was always appreciative of McDonald's and Burger King. I felt that, really, the people who know anything about food know that's delicious."
Leoni also joked about Duchovny's skill at shirking the more practical chores that go along with raising a child.
"Oh, my God, David. It's just the dexterity issue with men. I personally haven't found changing a diaper particularly challenging. But he's such a guy. Thankfully she's almost out of diapers," Leoni said.
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Pyrotechnic special effects sparked a fire on a movie set, but David Duchovny and several gorilla-suited actors escaped unharmed.
No one was injured Tuesday morning as smoke billowed up from the Raleigh Studios lot during production on the DreamWorks film "Evolution." Scores of actors and production staff poured out of the lot, and Duchovny was whisked off to a shopping center.
The fire occurred as crews set off five fireballs 15 feet in diameter, fire officials said. One of the fireballs ignited the scenery.
Firefighters quickly put out the blaze. They had been standing by during the stunt in case something went wrong.
The film was expected to resume production Wednesday.

In assessing the fines, Cal/OSHA determined that Fox had committed three "serious" safety violations, including allowing employees to work near high-voltage lines without taking steps to guard against the danger and failure to properly secure the scaffolding, the trade paper reported. The agency also determined that Fox committed a general safety violation by not having a "written code of safe practices posted at the job site." Fox has 15 days to challenge the ruling, but a Fox spokesman declined to tell the Reporter whether it would appeal or pay the fine.

Duchovny plays a discharged Army medic who joins Orlando Jones and Julianne Moore to deal with a meteorite that crashes to Earth with microbes that evolve at an accelerated rate. "Comedy's challenging, because there's really only one criteria, and that's if people laugh or not," Duchovny said. "Drama--people like it a little or they like it a lot, but you don't have to cry to like it. In comedy, if people aren't laughing, it's not successful, so you're really putting your ass on the line."
Duchovny said he's not worried about being typecast in SF roles. "Who's going to do that?" he said. "Is the great casting director in the sky going, 'Hmm? Did The X-Files, and now he's done this. That's all he can do!'" Evolution is set for a summer release.

Spotnitz added, "We sort of hinted at that in one episode that we saw, when he took out a picture of a little boy, and we didn't know what that meant to him. But now we're going to find more about him and people he knows. And we're going to meet this new agent, named Monica Reyes and played by Annabeth Gish, in episode 14, who has some history with Doggett. For us, it's exciting, because it's new things to play with, and it changes the dynamic of the show."
Gish's character will change the balance of the show, Spotnitz said. "She, like Doggett, is completely unlike anybody we've seen on The X-Files before. We'd never had somebody like Doggett, a kind of a working-class cop, before. And Annabeth is also a completely different element on the show. Reyes smiles, laughs and is a little off-center; there's a slightly neurotic quality to her. She's an FBI agent from the New Orleans field office; I'd say she's more a believer than a skeptic. So when you have Mulder, Scully, Doggett and Reyes, you've got two and two, if you will--if you still count Scully as a skeptic. While Scully believes in a lot of things, I still think she approaches things from that side of the world, as a scientist."

The last episode will air Jan. 26. Freakylinks starred Ethan Embry as the head of a Web site that investigated paranormal events.

The X-Files executive producers Frank Spotnitz and Chris Carter will develop a feature film based on Jule Eisenbud's book The World of Ted Serios: Thoughtographic Studies of an Extraor, about the real-life psychic, the Horror Online Web site reported. Carter and Spotnitz are slated to co-write the screenplay for Miramax's Dimension Films, and Carter will likely direct, the site reported.

This is a letter to the editor
Overall, I would give this season a "B." I have liked some of the stories in the episodes, but some are a bit of a stretch--aka X-Files. But kidding aside, there are some areas I would like to see improvement.
I would like to see Doggett a little tougher on Scully, and have a separate approach than Scully did the first season. Some of the dialogue exchanges have reminded me of the Monty Python skit of the guy who wants an argument, and all the other guy does is say the opposite thing (this is an argument--no it isn't--yes it is--no it isn't...ad infinitum). If Doggett is as good an investigator as proposed, he should have better ideas and explanations for what happens, not just say that Scully can't be right because it's too fantastic to believe.
Also, some of the leaps that Scully has made are just a bit too much. When Mulder made his leaps, there was usually an actual X-File that gave him an inkling of what was happening--he had some information from past cases (not always, but most of the time he did). I don't think Scully would make the leaps she does, even if there is some psychological reason why she might want to act like him now that he is gone. And her conclusions have all been right or close to right from the beginning. For example, her thinking a man could get hit by a car and not move--come on. Even basic physics will tell you that such a man would have to be so dense and have a mass so large that a car moving even thirty miles per hours could not budge him, let alone a car moving faster, especially to cause the damage to the car it did. (Then a shotgun blast knocks him off a porch?) It's just a little too convenient at times.
Even Mulder would look for the obvious explanations before making a leap, and have a question ready whenever Scully thought she had asked him an impossible question so that she was speechless.
Also, something that has occasionally frustrated me: I would like to see each episode build on itself in a more consistent manner. For example, the spaceship that Scully found in Africa, where is it now? The alien monster from the movie and episode 1 of the 7th season, what happened to it after it was in the water in the power plant? It's not that every little detail has to be answered. But the major ones do need answers. Just killing off Cancer Man (is he really dead?) does not end the main plot. Nor does a bunch of faceless alien renegades setting fire to those involved in the plot kill off the plot. Any alien race advanced and intelligent enough to travel through the vastness of space must have a better grasp on things than that. I can't believe Scully would forget things that happened in the past as much as she has.
And the only way I would want Scully's child to be Mulder's is if the Pusher guy was resurrected and told her to believe she never had the experience with him!
Overall, however, I do still like the show, and would like to see it continue on. I just want to see logical and believable jumps at explanations. It can be done with a little more effort.
