Pour notre étude nous avons choisi des colorants assez proches des azurants optiques par leurs structures mais dont les atomes assurant la liaison entre les groupes hétéroaromatiques sont des atomes d'azote et non pas des atomes de carbone. Aussi, nous avons choisi des dérivés de type azoïque, de la famille des colorants « Direct » (Figure I-11).
