The F100 SuperSabre could carry almoust 4t of payload, and had a multibarrel 4x20mm armor piercing cannon. That, plus the sophisticated air-air missiles made it the ideal fighter-bomber of the 1950s, the aircraft that could blast out of the skies the most modern Soviet fighters.
...or at least, that was the idea. The truth was that, by the time the F100 came to replace the F86 in its losing battle against MiG-15, the Soviets had already come up with the MiG-17...
