Y&P Clear Walther P99

Reviewed by NEC

THE FACTS:

Caliber: 6mm

Length: 180mm

Magazine Capacity: 12 (but really 13)

Material: Anti-Impact ABS

Appearance:

I have seen a few airsoft pistols in my recent interest in airsoft, and they all looked quite realistic at a glance. This pistol in particular was very close in design to the real P99, other than the obvious fact that it is clear. Its size is the same and so is the magazine as the real pistol. The grips were especially detailed, shaped completely like the real P99.

Function:

This pistol is easy to cock, though one problem with this is that there is an automatic locking slide feature and sometimes while cocking, the slide will lock with you not wanting it to, thus causing the pellet to fall out of its place, and being stuck in the gun. But you eventually get the hang of it, and avoid the locking slide problem, though sometimes it locks no matter what. That is the only real problem about this airsoft. Since the magazine is clear you can see how many pellets are left and that is a plus, though the magazine can only hold 13 pellets and looks like it could hold more but is recommended that it isn't overloaded. The magazine ejector is easy to reach and to push, so if you have more than one clip, reloading is a simple click with your thumb, and then quickly inserting the other clip with your other hand. A very nice feature to me is the 2 grips included with the pistol. The tops of the two grips are different, one being longer, eliminating the big groove that the back of the pistol has. All the official markings aren't there except for the P99 on the slide. The Y&P logo is on the side.

Accuracy:

I am pleased overall with the P99's accuracy. Using the .12g pellets, hop up will spoil your perfect shot after about 20 yards or so but all hop up pistols do that. The power and ballistics of this pistol are moderately powerful, though UHC's M92F Beretta is by far the most accurate AND powerful of any hop up airsoft that I've seen. But for a lower cost pistol, it's fine. If you want to hit a target, and have a fair eye, you'll hit it.

Overall Impressions:

I like this pistol, I am a fan of Walther pistols, and having a clear airsoft is safer then a black or silver one, for nobody thinks clear guns are real, at least I would hope nobody thinks that... The grip and feel of this moderately heavy pistol is enjoyable. It is a great starter pistol for anybody interested in the world of airsoft, though I wouldn't take this pistol out to battle if you're on a team, I wouldn't risk having a locking slide.
