Guildford, England

Mount Alvernia Hospital

The sisters� first venture into health care was the opening of Mount Alvernia in Guildford, in 1935. Mount Alvernia was started to provide low-cost health care when all health care in England was fee-paying. With the advent of the notional health service. mount alvernia remained a private hospital and continues as such today.
Mount Alvernia also provides health care for FMDM sisters including those home from the missions.

Ballinasloe, co. Galway Ireland

Portiuncula Hospital

Portiuncula is one of the best-known acute general and maternity hospitals in the west of Ireland. it is one of the few remaining voluntary hospitals left in Ireland, being owned by the FMDM sisters but funded by the Irish government.
Portiuncula started in 1942 as a small nursing home in two adjoining private houses. Building of the present Portiuncula hospital began soon afterwards and it opened in 1945 with 36 beds, acute general and maternity hospital serving both the public and private sector.

Beaufort, co. Kerry Ireland

St. Mary of the angels

St. Mary of the angels was opened by the FMDM sisters in 1968 as a residential home for mentally-handicapped children. Today the home cares for adults and children from five years onwards, with specialised care for younger children if necessary.

Singapore

Mount Alvernia Hospital

In 1961 mount alvernia hospital was built by the FMDM sisters. It takes pride in the rapid development of its pastoral care department, as it sees a need to minister not only to the physical, but also the psychological and spiritual needs of the patients.

Assisi home & hospice

In 1969 the Khoo Yang Tin block, with beds for chronically-ill patients, was built as an extension to mount alvernia hospital. In recent years patients needing hospice care were also admitted and the block became known as Assisi home.

Mandai, Singapore

Villa Francis

Villa Francis is a 150 bed home for the aged. It was built in 1976 by the Singapore council of social services.
Villa Francis receives ambulant, semi-ambulant and chronic elderly sick people and strives to give them a caring and homely environment for the rest of their lives.

Penang, Malaysia

Mount Miriam Hospital

Mount Miriam Hospital was opened in 1976 as a 40 bed hospital for cancer patients with facilities for both palliative care and active treatment by radiotherapy from two colbalt-60 machines and intra-cavity caesium.

Ipoh, Perak Malaysia

Fatimah Hospital

In 1963 the FMDM sisters were given a property in Ipoh and Our Lady�s Hospital was built. It was a small acute general and maternity hospital of 40 beds.
In the late 1970s the German Brothers of Mercy built a 120 bed general hospital in Ipoh, Fatimah Hospital. In 1983 the FMDM sisters closed Our Lady�s hospital and moved to Fatimah Hospital to administer it for the German brothers.

Hamilton, New Zealand

Assisi home & hospital

Assisi home and hospital for the aged was opened by the FMDM sisters in 1971 in response to a need in Hamilton for further facilities to care for elderly people. Now there are 30 beds in the home and 22 hospital beds with three flats for retired priests.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Mater Hospital

Mater Dei Hospital, was built by the FMDM sisters in Bulawayo in 1953. Today, after two extensions, there are 132 beds including a six bed intensive care unit. Mater Dei is the only private general hospital in Bulawayo.

Hwange, Zimbabwe

Colliery Hospital

In 1955 the FMDM sisters were asked by the management of Wankie Colliery to take over the management of their 290 bed general and maternity hospital. Originally there were twelve sisters on the staff. They established a nurse training school which still continues.

Zambian missions

Today in the rural areas of Zambia the FMDM sisters run three mission hospitals and a health centre owned by the dioceses of Mansa and Livingstone. Each hospital offers general medical, surgical and obstetric care as well as being centres for leprosy, t.b. and aids.
