well, i had an interesting, albeit trying, weekend. paul had to have emergency surgery yesterday. i had to take him to the hennepin country medical center emergency room because no doctors offices or clinics were open on labor day. we were there from 10am until about 4pm. but, the good news is, he's feeling better! he has been in serious pain since last wednesday. he thought he had hemmorhoids. his bum was so sore that he couldn't sit down - he could barely move. he hadn't slept a normal night through in a week - he bought the pharmacy out of products to aleviate this problem - all were no help whatsoever. finally, on monday morning he woke me and said "i want you to take me to the doctor - i can't stand the pain anymore."

well, it turns out that it wasn't hemmorhoids at all. he had a abscess the size of a golf ball in there. they had to drain it right then and there. if he had waited much longer, it could've caused some serious problems by spreading. so, now he just has a big hole in his ass (other than the one that's supposed to be there) where the abscess used to be, and it's sore as hell, but the pressure is gone, and it's only going to get better.

boy, i tell ya - it's really hard to see someone you love in pain, and know there's absolutely nothing you can do to help. i almost couldn't handle it... i don't know what kind of mother i'm going to make - i'm too empathetic or something.

but, it did something for me - it really made me think about how lucky we are to be healthy most of the time. from now on i'm going to really appreciate the time we have together when we're both feeling good, and no one's sick, or in pain. i don't know if i could handle it if one of us became really ill. i just hope to god it never happens.
