Terragen languages

Anglic:

The major language spoken by Earthlings since the Bureaucracy.  Anglic is a derivative of English. Unlike Galactic languages, Anglic allows the use of metaphors.  Anglic also differs from Galactic languages by being much more susceptible to uncorrectable errors due to insufficiently redundant encoding, by its high tolerance of lexically and grammatically induced ambiguity, and by its facility for dealing with what Terragens call "fuzzy" logic and relative concepts (for example, "good" and "bad").

During the Bureaucracy, English was standardized as Anglic, and a prescriptive regime was monitored by the Anglic Institute.  With the fall of the Bureaucracy, the Institute was dissolved and Anglic returned to the older English tradition of descriptive lexis and grammar.  On some Terragen colonies many words from Galactic Seven, Two, and Ten have been borrowed into Anglic, and the Anglic language seems to be evolving very rapidly.

Thousands of natural Human languages have been documented, and hundreds survived the Bureaucracy.  Besides Anglic, major living Human languages include Rossic and Nihanic.

Anglic Sign Language:

A gestural language taught to young, pre-verbal Neo-Chimpanzees and used on occasion by all Neo-Chimps.  Also used by Humans and Neo-Chipanzees with serious, uncorrectable hearing impairments.

Primal Delphin:

A semi-language spoken by natural, unmodified dolphins on Earth.  Speaking Primal is generally considered rude among uplifted Dolphins.

Trinary:

A whistling, chirping, clicking language spoken by Neo-Dolphins as well as some Humans, Neo-Chimps, and Kanten.  Trinary has a very poetic structure and uses three-level logic.  It replaces Primal Delphin among Neo-Dolphins and is used by Fins for relaxation, imagery, and personal matters.  Past, present, and future are hard concepts to express in Trinary.  Trinary is used extensively in Dolphin poetry.
