Kithrup

Second planet of the Kthsemenee system.  Kithrup is a water world rich in heavy metals.  Kithrup has been designated Fallow and Reserve by the Institute of Migration for the past 134 million (that is, 227)  hab-years, even though a recent expedition found evidence of a technological society existing there as little as 32,000 (or, 215) hab-years ago.  (Expedition final report: In hindsight, these were probably just component tissues of larval stage Karrank%.)  The last official planetary survey was 227 hab-years ago when the planet was put on reserve for the retirement and recovery of the Karrank%.  Many of it's life-forms have metals incorporated into their bodies, rather than calcium like Earthlings, and shine with bright iridescent colors.  Earthlings exposed to the seas of Kithrup for long periods of time have to undergo chelation to remove the excess metal buildup from their body tissues.  Metallic mounds dominated areas of Kithrup near tectonic plates, and are composed of millions of metalo-organic exoskeletons piled on top of each other.  Each island has a drill tree that sends metal tipped roots through the mound to harvest organics and silicates, depositing a non-metallic layer on top and creating a cavity underneath.  The metal mound system turns out to be the larval stage of the Karrank%.
