An Overview of 2022's Summer Anime Season

(Unfinished because of life issues, full-show reviews will come soon-- sorry)

This is how it works: Shows that are Yellow are shows I'm currently watching. Shows in Red are shows I have dropped. Shows in Green are shows that I finished.
Underlined
shows are shows that I plan to watch. Titles are preferrably in their translated version.

Call of the Night:
Episode 1: We get introduced to not-Kokonotsu, some rando depressed kid that gave up on school (we've all been there) and ends up roaming his town at night to kill time (I've been there) until he meets a cute waifuable vampire girl (definetly not been there) and they have shady and quirky moments together. More to come.
Episode 2: Nanakusa is a great character, we also got a glimpse of the MC's (I keep forgetting his name, sorry Kokonotsu) childhood friend. Oh my, is this going to be like my eroge VNs?
Episode 3: Backstory time! I really liked how the show's presentation changed when Asai was the focus, the directors know their stuff and I'm digging it. At this rate this is AOTY, no questions asked. More to come...
Episode 4: Great moments between the main trio, nice nod to the good old days of SF (think that was Alpha 3?), smashing visuals and chill vibes. Really reminds me of Denpa Onna for some reason... good times.
Episode 5: NANAKUSA NAZUNA... MY WIFE IN HEAVEN! She's just too great. First part of the episode we get a solo moment without Kou and she's great by herself too. Uoooh bath scene. We find out Nazuna's job and Kou gets dragged into it. Great episode.

My verdict: Dagashi Kashi's author got it good this season. I always felt Dagashi as the unappreciated summer hit (considering it's grade on MAL) but somehow the fandom found solace within this show. It reminds me a little of Durarara in some places (don't ask me why, maybe it's the night scenes) and has great comedy. I strongly recommend it. 8/10

Devil is a Part Timer:
Episode 1: IT'S BACK...! And it's kinda underwhelming. The visuals suck (really suck), if you're binging from S1 to S2 it's jarring as hell but at least the old skool VAs are back. Hope I'm wrong about this show.
Episode 2: A FUCKING KID? What's this, Blues Brothers 2000? Give me a break!
Episode 3: I'm not impressed so far... clearly a quality drop from S1, cut corners, etc. At least Emi is still hot. Desu.
Episode 4: I can't watch it. It's too horrible. Dropped.

My verdict: This show was a travesty, jesus fucking christ what's wrong with the producers? And they're gonna make another season of this trainwreck! Sometimes... dead is better. 1/10

Made in Abyss:
Episode 1: So far MiA is the most interesting show of the season and that's a sequel. So far I don't have anything to say since Ep.2 didn't air yet. It's Made in Abyss. Go watch it.
Episode 2: Nice action, nice visuals, creepy stalkers with the author's barely disguised fetish, par for the course. I don't have much to say yet. Updates as they come.
Episode 3: Terrible CG aside, somehow I find myself more interested in the prequel backstory than in the main story... wonder what surprises they got for us?
Episode 4: I wonder when they're going to leave this layer. I wanna see what's beneath. Mitty's back too, somehow...
Episode 5: Best girl Vueko is back (she's just too cute...), with the cliffhanger this episode (and I'm not gonna spoil it, go watch it) I say this season was alright. I need Ep.6 to make my final judgment but this was alright.

My verdict: It's more MiA. I wasn't too impressed this season (maybe the novelty wore off?) but it still kept me on the seat so that's worth something. Still, compared to S1 this only gets a 7/10 from me.

Tatami Time Machine Blues:
My verdict: This show is an absolute masterpiece. It compliments the original 2010 anime perfectly. Ever watch Tatami Galaxy and wish there were more? Well there is... 9/10

Isekai Ojisan: I didn't get the chance to watch this yet (it's in netflix hell and I'm too lazy to source a reliable torrent not from SubsPlease) but I read the manga and it's pretty damn nice although a bit depressing at parts. Truly us SEGA fans will one day be vindicated, right?
