FUNCTIONS OF A FRAMEWORK OF ANALYSIS
1.1.
IDENTIFIES
THE KEY THEORIES, MODELS, AND CONCEPTS THAT WILL BE UTILIZED TO ANALYZE
RESEARCH DATA
1.2.
LINKS
RESEARCH WITH THE GREATER BODY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE
1.3.
PROVIDES
THE TOOLS FOR ENRICHING OUR ANALYSIS OF DATA OR LINKING OUR ANALYSIS OF DATA
WITH THE OVERALL EFFORTS TO ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE
2.
CONTENT OF THE FRAMEWORK OF ANALYSIS
2.1. THEORY: a body of postulates, axioms, propositions, or assertions that provide an explanation of social phenomena
2.2. PARADIGM: as per definition of Bailey (1994), this is the mental window through which one views the world. The mental window consists of concepts, categories, and assumptions of our world or social phenomena. A paradigm can be the larger body in which a theory belongs.
2.3. MODELS: These are charts, figures, table, diagrams, set of sets of mathematical equations, hypothetical situations, and other devices that illustrate or supposedly prove a theory.
2.4. CONCEPTS: In the social sciences, we
usually use concepts that are identified with a certain theory or paradigm. Concepts are also tools or the categories we use in analyzing or
interpreting data.
