Battle of Ulsan 1904

Short summary: Russian armored cruiser squadron at Vladivostok attempts to support the main fleet (also breaking out), but is intercepted by a Japanese armored cruiser squadron. The Japanese outnumber the Russians 4 to 3 when counting only the powerful armored cruisers (the Japanese had some protected cruisers as backup; NOTE: the Naniwa class ships reportedly had the 10.2in guns removed and re-armed with more modern 6in guns, making them more similar to the newer protected cruisers (Conway's)). Most of the heavy ships involved were armed with 8-in. guns; the Russian ships were larger (and had caused a lot of concern with the British and other rival nations when they were first built, resulting in a surge of large British :first class" protected cruisers as a response) but they were not superior to their Japanese counterparts. The Russian ship Rurik is sunk and the two other ships damaged and forced to retreat. This battle is sometimes compared to the later World War I battle of the Dogger Bank in its matchup and result.
