Resurrection 1

Resurrection 1

The symbol of resurrection occurs not only in the Christian religion but is dominant throughout the older European religions, at least all the way back to the story of Osiris in ancient Egypt and probably far beyond. Here the symbol is mixed with the image of the emergence of the butterfly from the chrysalis - or it could be the 'winding sheet' used to wrap the dead. It is a painting of Hope - something Europe (and particularly Britain) seems to need at the moment. Maybe Australia needs this too.

Oil on canvas. 24in x 16in (approx).
