Eye of the Storm 1

Eye of the storm 1

Another large painting, and possibly confronting for some. This is a conceptual map. Make what you will of the symbolism.

In the mountain tops where I live there are huge electrical storms that come in with torrential rain during the summer 'monsoon' season. Brisbane and the Gold Coast region where I live is in the south-east of Queensland: below the Tropic of Capricorn but  it has a tropical pattern of the seasons: the winters are cool and dry, not rainy, while the summers are hot and rainy, and very humid, though the heat and humidity are tempered by the altitude that we live at  - about 2,000 feet above the nearby Pacific Ocean. Here you can see the clouds closing in on the tropical sun - which has an 'eye' and an aura. The storm clouds here often look just like the Aboriginal 'wandjina' figures, especially when they are lit within by lightning.  The next 'circle' outside the clouds shows the surrounding mountains, lit by lightning. The final circle shows the trees. There is a mysterious river-pool at the bottom.

Oil on canvas 90 x 110 cm (36 x 45 in approx).
