This
is a painting of morning hope in a dark time. It is like a dream.
Picasso
believed he was a shaman - a magician - and that his paintings could
influence
the future. Many of my paintings are in the same genre.
Here
the sun is beginning to form and rise from the bottom of the deep blue
depths
of the pool of night. And even the waters of night are beginning to
sparkle
with colours as it rises.
This
birth of the sun is like a painful shout of joy bringing the new light
up into
the pale blue morning sky. It is like a birthing up from this forgotten
sacred
waterhole of a scattered people, up from this dark place of indigo
night, now
lost far away in the deep bush and our everyday awareness.
While
all around the stillness of the waterhole, the brooding trees are bent
over and
sheltering the birthing sun in this strange and fragile time with the
shadows
of their leaves.
But
soon the new morning will bloom triumphantly, in a burst of light. The
sun of
hope will be born and rise up into the blue sky, to shine again on a
brand new
day for us.
