Mating Flight Hatching Story Rider List

Throughout the day tensions at Volia-Kaun were high.  The eggs had been vibrating since early dawn, and the bonders had been gathered several times for false alarms.

So it was with a collective sigh that the female population of the Aerie removed themselves from their activities and headed reluctantly to the isolated glade where the eggs sat.

Grumbles throughout the crowd were plentiful, but all were silenced when the first egg trembled, and the sharp beak of a kitten pierced the side of the shell.  Disentangling himself from the remains of his shell the little gryph worked his way towards the loose semicircle of bonders.  Squawking as he tumbled over a loose branch Zusax looked up, his eyes looking expectantly for those of his bond.  Shaking his head sadly, Zusax turned, and awaited an adult to lead him off the plateau.

Gryphon eyes were not on him however, a pair of eggs had begun to rock simultaneously.  They rocked precariously close to each other, but neither one showed cracks.  Then, a small crack appeared in one egg, then revealing a small sharp beak.  While the first shucked off scraps of egg, the second egg still rocked violently, no cracks showing.  The blue tinted gryph cocked his head inquisitively regarding the egg with a curious yet impatient attitude.  Then, as if he couldn't wait any longer, he simply speared the egg with his beak, shattering the egg, and sending it occupant tumbling unceremoniously onto the ground.  The first then walked directly past his sister, and presented himself to Jiuyon.  "Well I think it was very nice of you to help your sister like that Geamex" Jiuyon replied to his bond.  Seconds later, Jumeauce stumbles to the feet of Hilka.  "I would never have left without you Jumeauce!"  The two happy couples left the glade, Hilka and Jiuyon arm in arm.

Immediately the next egg burst open, only this time, a sharp clawed paw punctured the tough shell, followed by a beak, and another paw.  Finally as the egg shattered, revealing an most astonishingly colored gryph.  Light colors were common at Volia-Kaun, but this kitten was spotted underneath her coat.  Splotches of white underneath her coat made her look almost star spangled.  Making her way proudly past the remaining candidate, she promptly left the plateau.

The attention grabbing spangled gryph gone, the audience turned back to the eggs.  One of the remaining eggs had already cracked open, revealing a stout white, with red and blue trimmings.  An unusual combination of colors on a gryphon.  But, following his sisters example he too marched out of the glade and past the last remaining bonder.

Silence reigned over the glade for a moment.  Would this bonder be rejected by the last kitten as well?  Although this was only the second hatching at Volia-Kaun, leaving a bonder on the sands reflected poorly on the bond searchers of the Aerie.  For a newly founded Aerie this could be devastating.

The rustling of Gryphon paws on hard packed ground, the slight vibration of the remaining egg throbbing.  Then, a harsh squeal as yet again beak pierced shell.

Struggling out of the shell came what many claimed looked like a miniature version of Seialice herself.  Crowing pitifully, she stumbled forward.  Almost in a trance Alatria too made her way towards the newly hatched Gryphon.  Leaving the glade Alatria's face glowed, her smile reaching her ears, one hand absentmindedly stroking the crest feathers of her bond.

A collective sigh was uttered, and slowly the inhabitants of the Aerie made their way back to their afternoon chores.  All six eggs had hatched, three had bonded human partners.  A rather successful hatching from all views.  And the next female was already due to rise.
