The Cirneco dell' Etna is a hunting hound originating in the hills of Mt. Etna, Sicily. The Cirneco is a multi purpose dog who can hunt both by sight and by scent. Cirneco's are wonderful, cheerful companions. They are not aggressive with other dogs or people. They do not have much protective instinct, but will generally bark at the sound or sight of an intruder. These dogs have a large bark for a dog so small!! The Cirneco is a very driven hunting breed and has an enormous amount of instinct. They will often go back to the same place that they saw quarry several days before. Ours sometimes finds it difficult to sleep at night if she remembers some type of animal outside for chasing! The Cirneco we have presently is "Multi CH, Multi BIS Carini Seta del Oro, CGC TDI". Carini was the first FCI registered Cirneco dell' Etna imported to the United States. This spectacular dog was bred by Seta del Oro Kennels in Slovenija in June of 1996. To our knowledge, Carini was also the first Cirneco to take an American Best in Show, first Canadian Best in Show, first Canine Good Citizen, and the first Therapy Dog International. Carini is also an avid lure courser and is obedience trained. Carini has now retired from showring competition at the age of 8. Keep an eye out for her in a year or two, though as a junior handler competitor!!
