About Me |
Before I would describe myself as a homemaker, I would have to say that I am a writer. Believe it or not, it took me a long time before I could actually say that about myself. In fact, my doctor was the first person to actually confirm that label for me. A nurse was updating my medical file for him and, being that I had recently become unemployed, she had simply written in my records that I was a homemaker. When he read that, he grabbed his pen, scribbled it out, and looked at me. "For heaven's sake, you're not some housewife! YOU are a WRITER!" |

Indeed. For years I have written creatively and have had some short fiction, lots of poetry and some essay work appear in print. Within previously held employment positions, I have always incorporated some kind of business and/or technical writing in with my work. Later, I was a columnist for our local newspapers -- The Sierra Vista Herald / Bisbee Daily Review. I continue writing poetry and fiction, but now also concentrate on inspirational/ motivational material, and free-lance human-interest articles and featues about people, as well. I volunteer my writing to help non-profit organizations, and I write HUGE personal letters to friends and family not on email! |

When I'm not writing, I may be reading -- biographies and mysteries are my favorites. I like to cook and bake, from "experiments with leftovers" to cakes and pies to homemade bread. (Don't own a bread machine -- never will!) Especially for Christmas presents and special occasions, I like to work with small knitting projects and cross-stitch. I also put together small "chapbooks" with poetry and musings for special people. Although I haven't been out recently, John and I enjoy target shooting (pistols), camping, hunting and fishing. We used to go hiking together but, now instead of trekking on foot, I have a small motorized wheelchair that gets me up into the mountains with him. I can pick up rocks, bird-watch and look for wild animals (anything from lizards to deer!) Of course, it's an added bonus to catch an Arizona sunrise or sunset ... they are spectacular! |
