ACID BABY

Are you interested in the 70's - 80's sound given to you with a fresh, innovative touch? Great, catchy melodies and song structures and riffs that stick to your mind? Would you like to hear a BEATLES song through the Acid Baby's point of view? Then all you got to do is read the interview below, check out the review in the demo section and just get in touch with the band!

1.FIRST OF ALL GIVE A SHORT BAND BIO AND INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO THE READERS... WHAT INNER NEED MADE YOU FORM YOUR OWN BAND?
  • George Lancet : Hello! This is George Lancet...
  • Rusty Nail : ...and Rusty Nail from Acid Baby! First of all we would like to thank you for your interest and support. The idea of Acid Baby was concieved by the end of year 2001 by the vocalist G.Lancet and the guitarist R.Nail. The next to join the band was bassist Mampre Kazardjian and after a short search for the rest members , Baby ended up with Stefanos on the keys and Anestis Taylorson behind the drumset. We immediatelly started rehearsing in order to record our first Mini-Cd "Greatest Shit" during springtime 2003. And thats about it!

  •
  • GL: Two best friends and their need to rock equals Acid Baby! We just want to share our music and passion with everybody.
2.WHY DID YOU NAME THE BAND ACID BABY? IT'S A VERY STRANGE AND UNUSUAL NAME FOR A HARD ROCK BAND AND A BIT FUNNY. WAS IT YOUR AIM TO PROVOKE THE LISTENERS WITH A WEIRD AND FUNNY NAME, A NAME THAT WOULDN'T BE EASILY FORGOTTEN?
  • GL: Well, it started as a joke but we just liked the way it sounds and decided to keep it. It sounds cool, doesn't it?
3.YOUR MUSIC IS MAINLY 70S-80S HARD ROCK ORIENTED, REMINDING ME A BIT OF BANDS LIKE BLACK SABBATH, DEEP  PURPLE AND URIAH HEEP (ESPECIALLY ON THE KEYBOARD'S SOUND). HOW EASY IS IT FOR A YOUNG PERSON THAT HASN'T LIVED AT THAT ERA TO REPRODUCE THAT SOUND AND FEELING? NAME SOME OF THE BAND'S THAT INFLUENCED YOU THE MOST.
  • GL:  Our music is an outcome of various influences including bands such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Monster Magnet , Metallica as well as the Beatles or even oriental music. Our secret in achieving this feeling is not trying to reproduce it at all! We just play the way we feel. My influences would be theBeatles, Pink Floyd and lots of folk stuff.
  • RN: For me that would be Sabbath, Ozzy, Megadeth and especially the latest Bruce Dickinson solo albums.
4.YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST DEMO "GRATEST SHIT" OUT. WHY DID YOU NAME IT THIS WAY? GIVE US SOME GENERAL INFO  REGARDING ITS SOUND AND THE RECORDING SESSIONS. WHERE WAS IT RECORDED, WHO HELPED YOU WITH THE RECORDINGS AND MIXING, ETC. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO CHANGE?
  • RN: We wanted to mock all "Greatest Hits" albums and draw your attention. It works! "Greatest Shit" was produced, recorded and mixed at Base Line Studios by Spiros Aspiotis last May. We needed more than 40 hours but  we had a great time doing it. Its already been quite a long since we finished the recording and looking back always makes you think that somethings could have been done better. But in general we are very satisfied with the result and feel lucky that had the chance to work under excellent circumstances.
5.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO AND HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY FOR YOU? WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS AND WHAT CAN TAKE THE INSPIRATION AWAY FROM YOU?
  • RN: The lyrics reffer to everyday's issues and emotional states , things that anyone can relate. It is important that they are well written and interesting. The inspiration to everything I write about is actually our own music. Not only after the music is finished do I begin with writting the lyrics. I try to capture the feeling of each song and express it through words.
6.HOW IMPORTANT IS IMAGE, PHILOSOPHY AND IDEOLOGY BEHIND A BAND? WHICH IS THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND ACID    BABY? DO YOU THINK MUSIC IS JUST A MEDIUM OF FUN AND ENJOY OR CAN IT BE A SERIOUS TOOL OF PIPING SERIOUS    THOUGHTS AND IDEAS?
  • RN: The importance of such things depend on each band. There are artists that base their existence on image such as Kiss or Marylin Manson and others that play music mainly to spread their ideals like many hardcore bands.
  • GL: For us  music comes first. The feeling that our songs give me is the feeling that one gets running down the highway in a classic convertible car while the sun is setting, listening loud rock  'n' roll. The groove is all that matters. I hope people get the same feeling.
7.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT SHOULD THE METALLERS EXPECT FROM AN ACID BABY LIVE SHOW? DO YOU LIKE PERFORMING LIVE? DO YOU HAVE ANY WEIRD EXPERIENCES TO SHARE WITH US?
  • GL: At the time we are planning some live perfomances but nothing is certain for now.  Our setlist is a combination of our own songs plus some classics like Sabbra Cadabra , Ace of Spades and many more. An Acid Baby live is a party! We really enjoy playing live.We even enjoyed that one time we performed in a punk band festival where our audience consisted of two people! And on top of that we had to deal with terrible sound and constant bass blackouts!!It TOTALLY sucked..
8.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T KNOW YOU, IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST? WHICH IS YOUR MOST APPEALING ELEMENT ACCORDING TO YOU?
  • RN: I would tell him that our booklet includes naked pictures of us.. He would at least be intrigued! The truth is that our songs carry a personal stamp and many different elements that can easily capture anyones interest.I guess that  this would be our most appealing feature.
9.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
  • GL: It would definitely be ejaculation! The pleasure of singing your own stuff can only be compared to this unique feeling. If it were a painting it would be something created by Andy Warhol, a really cool artist.
10.IF YOU HAD A PROPOSAL TO DO A VIDEOCLIP, WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?
  • RN: I 'd like to see "Stonedaze" on a videoclip. This song carries a very intense feeling, strong lyrics, and experimentations such as female vocals.  Therefore it has already gained the most people that have heard it. I imagine the videoclip having a gothic atmosphere .

  •
  • GL: I 'd have to agree with that.
11.WHAT IS THIS FACE ON THE COVER OF THE CD? IS IT OR ARE YOU THINKING OF MAKING IT SOMETHING LIKE THE       BAND'S MASCOT? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LAYOUT AND THE ARTWORK?
  • GL:Its Hal, Casper's aborted brother! Its a creation of Thanos Varnavas and Stefanos who are also responsible for cover and band logo.We might use it again in the future. The layout introduces the band through many pictures from the recording period and handwritten lyrics. The idea was concieved by Rusty and came to existance by Stefanos.
12.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL BACK IN TIME, WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY?
  • GL: I would like to live during the 50's, 60's and 70's when rock 'n' roll was born. At that time RnR was not only a music genre but a way of life that I would like to be a part of.
  • RN: I 'd like to live in Britain in the early 80's so I could be a part of the NWOBHM. I trully envy the people that had the chance to see a Priest concert during the "British Steel" tour or Ozzy along with Randy Rhoads.
13.HAVE YOU SENT YOUR DEMO TO ANY LABELS AND PRESS? ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK? DO YOU HAVE ANY OFFERS FOR A RECORD DEAL? WITH WHAT CRITERIA WILL YOU SELECT A LABEL?WHAT'S MORE IMPROTANT? ARTISTIC FREEDOM OR MONEY?
  • RN: We have already sent "Greatest Shit" to magazines , fanzines and webzines. The feedback so far has been very encouraging! We still haven't contacted any record companies. We want the band to be experienced, widely known to the underground scene and in general ready for such a big step. All things matter when choosing a label. Artistic freedom is very important but one must be able to have a decent way of life based on his art.
14.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT WE LIVE IN A WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN SUCH A CASE?
  • GL: I would probably express myself through another art such as acting. Cause expressing is what matters.
  • RN: That would be painting for me.
15.WHICH FAMOUS PERSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET AND WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASK HIM/HER?
  • GL: I would like to meet Jesus.Would he like to meet me though? I am a cool person why not?
  • RN:I want to meet Bruce Dickinson. I admire his work, his singing abilities and I think he is an intelligent and interesting person.I 'd love to work with him. So, Bruce, if you are reading this right now please contact the band!
16.IN WHICH MOVIE SOUNDTRACK WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE TAKEN PART OR HAVE COMPOSED?
  • GL: "South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut"!!
  • RN:"South Park" rules! A true source of inspiration.
17.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
  • RN:Yes you have! I 'd like to say that "Paperback Writer", a song included in "Greatest Shit", is a Beatles cover. We really tried to adjust the song to the Acid Baby's style and I hope that people will appreciate it.
  • GL: We would like to thank you for this interview and your support! I hope you ll check us out at one of our live performances. Cheers and Beers!
