ADVENT
Adent's
music offers a way out of the ordinary, since it manages to create so many
beautiful sentiments and mind travel you to worlds and landscapes of extreme
and absolute beauty that you forget where your physical body is lying.
let's see what Federick and Giorgio told us about their band.
1.FIRST OF ALL MY CONGRATULATIONS FOR
"VALHOLL". IT'S A VERY GOOD DEMO. NOW, TELL US IN A FEW WORDS THE MOST
IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY AND THE CURRENT LINE UP.
Federico: Advent project was born
in 1998 from an idea of Riccardo, Giorgio and Stefano (the ex-keyborders)…I
came in 2000 from another band and I found good fellows for adventures.
We made a first demo “From a distant landascape” in 2001, recorder and
mixed it in two days (it had to be a thing only for us, but it was no bad
and then we send it around the world…but this was only the beginning),
then we wanted to made a more professional work and so we recorded “Valholl”
in 2003. Now we are going to recorder a full-length for the Golden Lake
label (www.goldenlakeprods.co.uk) … I made a preview for us: the title
it must be “The dawn”…stay tuned! In this moment the line-up of the band
is: Federico-vocals, Giorgio-Guitar, Alessandro-Guitar, Luigi-Bass and
(new entry) Valerio-keyboards…
2.IS ADVENT A LATIN WORD? WHAT DOES
IT MEAN AND HOW DID YOU CHOOSE IT? DOES THIS WORD SYMBOLIZE ANYTHING TO
YOU?
Federico: No, Advent is an English
word….it means “the coming” (or somewhat … ) and it can symbolize the advent
of new music and minds: our music and our minds. Or maybe can symbolize
the advent of a travel in new worlds of imagination…not so far from reality
as can seem… (P.S.: the Latin word is “adventus”)
Giorgio: Advent is the title of
an amazing song from Opeth … and all the things Federico just said.
3.THE BOOKLET OF THE DEMO DOESN'T CONTAIN
THE LYRICS OF 3 SONGS. WHY DIDN'T YOU WRITE THEM AS WELL? DO YOU THINK
LYRICS ARE IMPORTANT OR NOT? CAN YOU TELL US WHAT ARE THESE 3 SONGS TALKING
ABOUT?
Federico: Lyrics are not in the
booklet for reasons of space…but we think that lyrics are more important
(yeah! Finally I can speak about lyrics, thank you for the question!!!):
for this reasons is possible to find all Advent lyrics on our website (
www.adventcomes.it ). Lyrics are so important that in the Italian version
of the site are all translated (in Italian) and also commented (I will
make this also for the English version, in future). I think that the Advent
project is a perfect fusion of music and words… About the three songs of
Valholl I can spend a lot of words…but my English is not so good and then
I try to make a short presentation: the first, “Paradise Lost” is inspirated
by the Paradise Lost of J. Milton (an English writer of the XVI century)
and speaks about pride and war, good and evil, might and sadness….and I
think it’s more romantic and would give an impression of the Sublime Spirit;
the second track, “Valholl” is created on the Voluspà (an ancient
poetry composition of the XII century, in ancient Icelandic) and other
ancient writings (in old English), also this song speaks about war but
in a way that appears more mighty, like the ancient traditions of the northern
men (like Vikings): in fact is created around the vision of the Valkyries
riding on the battle fields…but really it also explains that war is in
many ways also death and destruction; the last song, “Shub-Niggurath”,
is inspirated by H.P. Lovecraft (an American writer of the XIX century),
and is connected to a particular part of “Paradise Lost” (“…sacrifice my
soul to evil forces…” [see the song]) and speak about creatures (maybe
so similar to human beings) that need more power and try to find it in
the dark side…and then what can happened in the end? This is a brief presentation,
but in our lyrics I think that you can find more and more…
4.THE COVER OF THE DEMO IS A PAINTING
AND IT'S REALLY WONDERFUL. WHO IS THE PAINTER AND HOW IS IT CONNECTED WITH
YOUR MUSIC?
Federico: I don’t remember the
name of the artist, but we also like it very much. I think that it is more
romantic and seems like a landscape between dream (or fantasy) and reality…more
similar to the intention of the Advent project!!!
5.I FOUND THAT YOU COMBINE IN YOUR
MUSIC MANY HEAVY METAL STYLES (CLASSIC HEAVY, DEATH, BLACK, ETC). CAN YOU
TELL ME HOW YOU MANAGE TO DO SO AND HOWNWOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
Federico: It’s very difficult for
me to answer to this question…I think we didn’t create our songs with this
purpose (mix of metal styles)…we only made our music as every one of us
feel…the final result I think is a genuine artistic creation and not a
mechanical construction… I don’t know music theory very well… so when I
had to sing I tried to imagine and feel the sounds that I would have in
the end, and then I tried to make it….(mmmh maybe is a bit complex to explain?!)
Giorgio – Really, I compose the
riffs, which I much love, if there’s something into a song we’re not very
happy about … we just delete it to begin from zero point. We don’t fear
the song writing’s heavy work.
6.WHEN I LISTEN TO YOUR DEMO, YOUR
COMPOSITIONS MANAGE TO TRAVEL ME IN WILD AND BEAUTIFUL PLACES. WAS IT YOUR
INTENTION TO CREATE A MUSIC THAT CAN "OFFER" IMAGES AND TRAVEL THE LISTENERS?
Federico: Yes ………………… I had no
words for your compliment (the best that you can make for us)… I’m deeply
moved… If also other people think like you we have had success in our intentions…

Giorgio – A song is an emotion
by its own definition, it’s more than just playing instruments. You can
be the best musician in the world without knowing anything about musical
instruments. You are just the one that expresses himself better.
7.WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH
THIS RELEASE? DID YOU HAVE ANY PROPOSALS FROM LABELS THIS FAR? HOW HAVE
THE FANS AND PRESS REACTED TOWARDS YOUR DEMO?
Federico: I think that first we
want to show to ourselves that we can make something professional…like
a real band…and so have the possibility to show to the world Advent project
in a good way…with “From a distant landscape” and “Valholl” we made some
friends around the world: from South America to Japan (I would like to
send greetings to all this friends that support us!!!). In March we signed
a contract with Golden Lake Production.
8.THERE IS A BLOODY AND CATASTROPHIC
WAR GOING ON RIGHT NOW IN IRAQ. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Federico: Every war I think is
a horrible thing…the Iraq war is only the war more publicized by the media,
but into the world there are a lot of other conflicts open and all this
conflicts are terrible. I think that to solve problems in the world there
can be found another solution than war: at men the duty to find another
way…unfortunately since the mankind walk on this earth has made war…maybe
one day…
9.WHICH BANDS HAVE BEEN A GREAT INFLUENCE
TO YOU AND WHY? CAN YOU POINT OUT SOME NEW BANDS FROM YOUR COUNTRY THAT
YOU FIND VERY INTERESTING?
Federico: Some interesting bands
from Italy, for me, are Tronus Abyss, Adversam, Disarmonia Mundi, Aborym,
Stormlord, Aisling, Rhapsody…
Giorgio – Hecate Enthroned and
Cradle of Filth some years ago. Now, I like to hear all the music without
any distinction. I like also Faithless, Muse, the Radiohead and Jeff Buckley
guitar style. From Italy I would like to mention first of all Marlene Kuntz,
also for the guitar and the song-writing of Catartica (their first release)
and Subsonica, from Torino, our city.
11.IF YOUR MUSIC WAS AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE?
Federico: …a mighty melancholy
12.WHICH DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST AND
WICH IS THE WORST PART OF YOUR MUSIC? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER
IMPROVEMENT?
Federico: I like very much our
music… but all things can be improved…
Giorgio – I’m completely satisfied
by “Valholl”. Really, I have everyday searched for a band that can create
that music. I can’t find anyone …
13.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN'T
ABLE TO COMPOSE MUSIC?
Federico: I’m not able to compose
music…I have only ideas and feelings (like having visions) but I can communicate
it to other Advent guys and then they try to make this music…
Giorgio – Anyone is able to compose
… why wouldn’t I ?
14.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
Federico: FUCKING MONEY that can
corrupt all!
Giorgio – Fucking boring day by
day life …
15.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHICH
HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU MISS
THE MOST FROM OUR TIMES?
Federico: I would like to see medieval
times, because I’m fascinated by this period…I study Medieval Archaeology
in the University of Turin and also made Studies on Medieval Fighting (see
my Academy, http://www.scrimatorino.it/).
But I don’t want really to live in this ancient period: I like here and
now!
16.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW
TO HAVE?
Federico: I think that it would
be nice “Adversus Advent” (“adversus” is a Latin term that means “toward”).
