A GRUESOME
FIND
When I listened to the name
of this band I thought that I had to do with a grindcore band, but I was
wrong. A GRUESOME FIND mix in their music the U.S. death metal sound with
the European black metal. These combination of styles it really moved my
interest and I really would like to listen some songs of them. Till the
release of their new album, I think that the interview will answer to many
questions that might have about the group.
1.FIRST OF ALL POINT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT
MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY AND INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO THE READERS...
-
Hails! I'm Deathcrush(battery) from
AGF. The band was started in April of 98. Many line up changes occurred
during this time. I joined in Oct of 2001. Mark of the Damned and Isaac
Cain were acquired not long after. We recorded our demo in Feb of 2002.
Many shows followed. During the winter of 02/03 our full length was recorded.
Some more shows to promote the release. For the last year we have been
writing new material.
2.WHY DID YOU NAME THE BAND A GRUESOME
FIND? WHICH IS THIS SO DISGUSTING AND REPULSIVE FIND, ACCORDING TO YOU?
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THIS MONIKER?
-
I'm not exactly sure why the name was
picked, the name was selected long before I joined. They came up with while
watching the news about a story of a man who was found a few days after
killing himself.
3.HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSICAL
STYLE? NAME SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED BANDS AND ALBUMS. WHICH ARE THE MUSICIANS
THAT HELPED YOU REALIZE THAT THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO IN YOUR LIVES?
WHO GAVE YOU YOUR MUSICAL VISION?
-
Our music is a combination of brutal
old school death metal and melodic black metal. The guitarist is influenced
by many Swedish bands in the vein of Dissection, Grave,Naglfar,Unleashed,
Mork Gryning etc. I'm more influenced by the early 90s American death scene
and Norwegian bands from the same time period. Some of the drummers I'm
inspired by are Hellhammer, Trym, Faust, and Sir McGovern from Absu. My
musical vision is from how I think the music should be made. No one has
helped in such a matter.
4.YOU ARE ABOUT TO RELEASE YOUR SECOND
STUDIO ALBUM UNDER THE TITLE "MINIONS ENGAGE." GIVE US SOME INFO... WHERE
WAS IT RECORDED, WHO WAS THE PRODUCER? WHEN WILL IT BE READY? WHICH IS
ITS MUSICAL DIRECTION?
-
The new cd has yet to be recorded.
We will start the recording process at the end of April. It will be recorded
at the same place we recorded the other releases. In Akron, OH at Dimmworks
Studios. We will be producing it ourselves. There is no release date as
of this time. I thinks it's more mature and faster the The Fire ... and
maybe a little heavier.
5.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO
AND HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY FOR YOU? WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS
AND WHAT CAN TAKE THE INSPIRATION AWAY FROM YOU?
-
I don't think our lyrics are the most
important part for us. Our lyrics are mostly short stories. I don't really
write the lyrics except for the song "Devoid Of Humanity" which is more
of a nihilistic point of view.
6.YOU ALREADY HAVE A 5 TRACK DEMO AND
A DEBUT ALBUM CALLED "THE FIRE THAT BURNS IN HELL". CAN YOU POINT OUT THE
MOST IMPROTANT SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES AMONG THESE 2 AND YOUR UPCOMING
ALBUM "MINIONS ENGAGE"?
-
There are not too many differences
between the demo and the full length. Maybe a maturity in song development.
The production on the demo I find to be more "live" sounding compared to
the full length.
7.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS?
WHAT SHOULD THE METALLERS EXPECT FROM AN A GRUESOME FIND LIVE SHOW? SHARE
SOME OF YOUR EXPERIENCES FROM YOUR LIVE SHOWS WITH US...
-
We play when we can find a show worth
playing. When we play out you can expect an intense live show. We where
corpsepaint and some spikes. Our vocalist has a ceremonial robe he wears.
From our shows I've learned that the scene around here sucks. Promoters
don't promote and no one wants to come out to an underground balck/death
show. The most interesting experiences I've had is meeting good bands like
Black Trinity, Project Apocalypse, Memories Of Dreams Forgotten, etc.
8.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK
YOU GOT THIS FAR? WHICH WAS THE WORST AND WHICH THE BEST STATEMENT YOU
READ? IS THERE A COMMON THING YOU SEE REPEATED IN ALMOST ALL THE REVIEWS
YOU RECEIVE?
-
I'm happy with the feedback we've had
from reviews and contact with other bands. The worst thing I've read was
in a review the person called us a Cannibal Corpse clone with Cradle of
Filth make up. The best statement would have to be that we're a band to
watch for. A common statement in almost all of our reviews has been a comparison
to Marduk which is funny because the guitarist doesn't even listen to them.
9.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
-
The emotion would be rage. The painting
would show a man with a shadowed face with his fists clenched.
10.IF YOU HAD A PROPOSAL TO DO A VIDEOCLIP,
WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?
-
We've already made a video clip for
a song off of thedemo. Slaughter of the Lamb which can be found on our
website. www.agruesomefind.com
11.WHICH IS, ACCORDING TO YOU,
THE BEST AND WHICH THE WORST PART IN YOUR MUSIC? WHICH IS YOUR TRADEMARK?
-
The best part is the overall aggressiveness.
The worst part is that sometimes not all the melodies work in context of
the overall feel. Sometimes I think we repeat parts too often or drag them
out.
12.WHCH WORDS DO YOU THINK COULD BEST
DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC IN GENERAL?
-
I'll use the statement that the guitarist
uses. Extremely heavy melodic music with atmosphere.
13.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL
BACK IN TIME, WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY?
-
I would like to visit the time of the
Aztecs. I've been fascinated with this culture for many years. A very blood
thirsty and spiritual people.
14.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT WE LIVE IN A
WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN SUCH A CASE?
-
Read and write short stories/poetry.
15.IF YOU WERE A FLY, WHERE WOULD YOU
LIKE TO BE AND WHY?
16.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK
YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
-
Lookout out for our next full length
coming out late 04 early 05 and our reissue of our demo as a 12" this fall.
