ANDREAS LANTZ

If I told you that a musician with name Andreas Lantz exists and plays "exometal", most of you will consider me as somekind of fool. But don't rush into conculsion, cause lately Behind The Veil discovered that this mythical person (Andreas Lantz) really exists and he plays this strange kind of metal. So we didn't miss the opportunity and interviewed him. So here is the diary of a newcomer in the metal scene.

1.HI! YOU ARE A NEW ARTIST, SO FIRST OF ALL TELL US
WHICH ARE YOUR AIMS AS A MUSICIAN AND WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BECOME AN ARTIST.
  • My aim is to create a new genre of heavy rock that people, who want something new instead of the existing genres, can appreciate. Some people may be looking for hardrock with interesting rhythms and melodies but without highpitched vocals like prog and power metal. These people are the ones that I hope to satisfy with my music.I decided to become an artist since I enjoy perfoming and doing music but I also wanted to make a personal statement with music that stands out from the current genres without being hard to listen to for nonmusicians.
2.YOU HAVE RELEASED A DEMO.  TELL US A FEW THINGS
ABOUT IT. WHERE WAS IT RECORDED, HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU, WHO WAS THE PRODUCER, ETC. ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FINAL RESULT OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO CHANGE?
  • There are some things I wish to change. First and foremost the drums but also the general production but it was recorded very quickly so I can't ask for very much. It was also recorded on an analog tape which is pretty rare these days. It was produced by Calle Foldt who is also the Vocalist and bassist in a semifamous band called Deranged.
3.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO AND WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS?
  • The lyrics are not very serious meant except for 2040 which is a prophecy of how the future will be. The first song Monkey Island is a not so serious story about a pirate on an unknown island. A friend of mine told me that the intromelody sounded like the music from the Computergame "The Secret of the monkey Island" and that?s where I got the idea from. The lyrics of Power of Passion and Love Swings Tonight are meant as jokes by and large. The MTV Songwriters often have a way to serious approach to lovesong lyrics and I wrote these songs in the opposite way.
4.YOU HAVE STARTED ALL THIS AS A SOLO PROJECT. WHY?
WHY DIDN'T YOU LOOK FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE FIRST AND
THEN TRY TO RECORD YOUR IDEAS?
  • Good question! I tried to form a band during the past spring but the people I found wasn't very serious in the first place with one exception. I decided to continue on my own and not search for the right people.
5.SO, HAVE YOU MANAGED TO FIND MUSICIANS OR ARE YOU IN A SEARCH? WILL THEY BE SESSIONISTS OR FULL TIME MEMBERS? WILL THEY HAVE A SAY ON THE COMPOSITIONS?
  • I don't have a complete line-up at this point but I am looking for a guitarist and a drummer there?s no question about that. I will accept their ideas if they are good. But it?s hard to make music that fits in the concept if you don't have a feel for it.
6.YOU SAY THAT YOU BELONG TO THE EXOMETAL GENRE AND IN SPECIFIC THAT YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT PLAYS THIS WAY. DO YOU WANT TO CLEAR THINGS OUT FOR US? WHAT'S THIS EXOMETAL THING AND WHY IS IT SO UNIQUE?
  • I don't know if it?s 100% unique  I haven?t searched the world for a genre that I might fit in. I wrote a couple of songs that did not fit into any genres I know of, so I made a genre for them. The name "exo" comes from exotic and I use melodies that may sound a bit exotic to most people. The tempochanges and the rhythms are different from what you usually hear in progressive metal for instance.
7.WHICH IS ACCORDING TO YOU YOUR MOST RECOGNIZABLE
ELEMENT AND WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST?
  • Propably the introduction melodies. I tend to use samples that sounds like flute and accordion and melodies that stands out from what you usually hear in Metal bands like Iron Maiden.
8.DID YOU PLAY IN ANY OTHER BANDS IN THE PAST? IF SO,
PLEASE NAME THEM. DID YOU EVER PERFORM LIVE OR DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO PERFORM LIVE WITH YOUR OWN PROJECT WHEN YOU FIND THE REST OF THE BAND MEMBERS?
  • Of course! I love to perform live. I used to be a keyboardist in a powermetal band called Daynight. I wasn't satisfied with the background position I had as a nonsinging Keyboardist. I am looking forward to perform with this project and all you people out there watch out. Your town may be the first one to experience exometal live!
9.WILL YOU DISTRIBUTE YOUR PROMO TO ANY LABELS OR
MAGAZINES? ARE YOU IN A SEARCH OF A RECORD DEAL OR NOT YET? HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY FEEDBACK YET? IF YES, IS IT POSITIVE OR NOT?
  • I have recieved very little feedback since the project is so new. I will send to the labels  and magazines that are interested and want my promocd. I am very open when it comes to "download music for a fee" sites. It is very possible that I will prefer that solution compared to regular pressed CD.s
10.IF WE ARE ALL JUST A WORD IN THE GREAT BOOK OF
CREATION, CAN YOU SAY WHICH WORD COULD DESCRIBE YOU BETTER? CAN YOU ALSO IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF AUTHOR WOULD BE THE CREATOR OF THIS BOOK AND WHY?
  • The word would propably be something like jokeseriousity. Someone who can change from serious subjects to joke in a very unprediktable way. The author would propably be someone like Douglas Adams who uses humour in a way that very few people before him thought about.
11.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
  • My music would propably be rebelsanguinity. A kind of " I don?t care about trends and what people think about me I just say what I feel like at this very moment".  It is not really an emotion in the tradional sense but my music is not traditional either. A painting of my music would propably be a mix of serious and depressing scenarios and persons mixed with surrealistic scenarios in such a way that not even Salvador Dali on acid could have done it.
12.DO YOU THINK THAT PERHAPS GOD GOT SO FRIGHTNED FROM WHAT HE CREATED THAT HE MOVED TO HEAVEN IN ORDER TO KEEP DISTANCE FROM HIS CREATIONS? :))
  • Not really! I believe he created all the laws of physics and started the Big Bang, then he retired way before life was created by the ongoing formation of matter that he started.
13.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT WE LIVE IN A WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN SUCH A CASE?
  • It depends on if it's a world were music cannot be created like in space for instance or a world where haven?t though about creating music. In the later case I would propably stimulate other people to create music with me. I would try to form an all "humansounds" band with one singing, another one whistling, a third one clapping, a fourth one doing the beatbox and me farting. Then we would conquer the world as "A?capella from hell?"
14.IF YOU WERE A FLY, WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AND
WHY?
  • I would propably like to be in the teleportation machine used in the "The Fly" the horrormovie.  If I did that I would at least have the chance to be a human to some extent when Jeff Goldblum or someone else steps into the machine. Being a fly is propably not very funny. Imagine yourself a world looking like a cracked window and you can barely think or do anything fun at all as we know it.
15.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
  • Yes! How did you come up with the great idea to interview me?
