ASPERITY

What happens if members of CARNAL FORGE and STEEL ATTACK join forces? The answr to this question is the band ASPERITY which really is a new sensation in the power/progressive metal genre. Here you will read what Petri Kuusisto have told us for this new promissing band, Enjoy it...

1.CONGRATULATIONS FOR "THE FINAL DEMAND"! GREAT ALBUM!
  • Thank`s a lot!!
2.FIRST OF ALL TELL US THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN THE SHORT ASPERITY LIFE AND INTRODUCE THE CURRENT LINE UP.
  • The most important moment was when we completed the line up and created our first album and of course that someone wanted to release it. About the line up now, we are all just crazy music loving assholes =) ha ha
3.WHICH MUSICAL NEEDS DO ASPERITY FULFIL THAT NEITHER CARNAL FORGE NOR STEEL ATTACK DID? IF YOU HAD TO LEAVE A BAND, WHICH WOULD THAT BE AND WHY?
  • It`s that I get to play guitar in a really melodic way (I only played keyboards in steelattack). Stefan felt that he didn`t belong on vocals and as a frontman in Steel Attack. He just wanted to play the drums. The difference from Carnal Forge is that there really is room for melodies in Asperity and I like this mellow music. It`s nice to play slow sometimes =) ha ha. I would not leave any band so I can't choose any of them, Carnal Forge is my main band but Asperity is just as fun as Carnal Forge.
4.DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT A MUSICIAN CAN BE GOOD IN MORE THAN ONE GENRES? I MEAN WHICH IS YOUR STRONGEST POINT AND ADVANTAGE AS COMPOSERS? SINCE YOU'VE SEEN FROM THE INSIDE BOTH DEATH/THRASH AND POWER METAL, IN WHICH FIELD DO YOU FIND YOURSELVES BEING MORE CREATIVE?
  • That is probably up to you and others to judge but I can't see any problem with that as long as you have a passion for the kind of music you do and do it for your own sake and if others like it too, then it`s great. The advantage would be that through the years we have become better musicians and therefore you get out the things you got in your head and manage to play them. Of course there is still much to learn but it`s getting closer =) The day I technically manage to play all the music that`s in my head I will be satisfied. I think that I am just as creative in carnal forge as in asperity.
5.IF I ASKED YOU TO INTRODUCE THE ALBUM YOURSELVES TO THE READERS, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? I WROTE, AMONG OTHERS, IN MY REVIEW THAT "ASPERITY IS ANOTHER WORD FOR HARSHNESS AND I THINK THAT THIS WORD SUITS THEM PRETTY WELL. THEIR MUSIC WITHOUT BEING REALLY AGGRESSIVE, IT IS HARSH, BUT WHAT YOU GET TO NOTICE FROM THE FIRST MOMENT ARE THE MELODIES AND THE DARK AND MELANCHOLIC ATMOSPHERE".DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS? WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY?
  • Yes I agree and I also think that the music is a little bit filled with dread (that is mostly what the lyrics are about) and it may sometimes be a bit dark and sad.
6.YOUR SOUND REMINDED ME A BIT OF EVERGREY AND FALCONER, BUT IT ALSO BEARS SOME REFERENCES OF BOTH STEEL ATTACK AND CARNAL FORGE IN SOME PARTS. WHICH OTHER BAND'S CAN WE FIND AMONG YOUR INFLUENCES?
  • Well that would be Queensryche and of course a lot of other good bands around. Everything I hear can inspire me in some way.
7.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO AND HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY FOR YOU?  WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS AND WHAT CAN TAKE THE INSPIRATION AWAY FROM YOU?
  • The lyrics are mostly about our own feelings and experience. The lyrics are quite important to us. We pick up what we daily observe or feel. There isn't anything special that can take our inspiration away (sometimes it`s there sometimes not) =)
8.LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ARTWORK A BIT. I LIKE IT! IT'S DARK... WHAT IS THIS GUY BEGGING FOR OR DEMANDING? WHOSE ARE THESE HANDS AND WHAT DO THEY WANT FROM THE GUY?
  • He is begging to die, if the old things (old demons) won't stop chasinghim, he'd rather die. The hands stand for all those bad things(memories,pain`s....)
9.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT SHOULD THE METALLERS EXPECT FROM AN ASPERITY LIVE SHOW?
  • We`ll have to wait and see how everything turns out for asperity. If we decide to play live we will make sure that it sounds and looks good. Otherwise there is no meaning to play live I think.
10.ARE YOU SAITSFIED BY THE FEEDBACK YOU GOT THIS FAR? IS THERE A COMMON STATEMENT YOU READ IN ALMOST ALL THE REVIEWS YOU RECEIVE?
  • Yes we are satisfied, I mean we haven`t got any real bad reviews yet =) Hmm.. I suppose the "why do you play in both thrash metal and this melodic thing?". Is the most common question =)
11.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
  • It would be a sad and hopeless emotion. A dark foggy one with someone crying in the dark or something like that.
12.WHICH IS, ACCORDING TO YOU, THE BEST AND WHICH THE WORST ELEMENT IN YOUR MUSIC? WHICH IS YOUR TRADEMARK?
  • Maybe the melodies and the vocals of of Peter Kronberg I can't find any bad elements right now and hopefully there isn`t any. Trademark would be" tight and good sound and that it is straight from the heart =)
13.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT WE LIVE IN A WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN SUCH A CASE?
  • Probably I'd be an alcoholic or something ha ha =)
14.WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK COULD BEST DESCRIBE "THE FINAL DEMAND" AND YOUR MUSIC IN GENERAL?
  • A good album with a good mixture of songsfull of feelings.
15.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
  •  Take care all metalheads!!
