two Germans are a beer pub, three Germans are a heavy industry, four Germans
are a world war, five Germans are ATROCITY!" Behind the veil is proud to
interview mr. Alexander Krull that has a lot to say about their new album
called Atlantis.
1. LET’S START WITH A TYPICALQUESTION, WHAT
HAVE CHANGED SINCE YOUR LATEST RELASE WHICH WAS “GEMINI” IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN
-
You are right, Gemini was our latest work and
many things have changed since we made the “Atlantis” album. We were not
so happy with our previous label, there was no promotion at all and it
seemed that they didn’t care for us, and for their other bands of course.
We moved into new studios and our keyboardist left us for a while and returned
later.
2. YOU HAVE RECENTLY RELEASED YOUR NEWALBUM “ATLANTIS”,
CAN YOU TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT THE “SOUND” OF THIS ALBUM?WHAT CAN EXPECT
A FAN OF ATROCITY FROM THIS ALBUM?

It’s an album with different topic than the others
and the sound is darker, heavier. You can call it a bombastic tornado!
There are rhythmic parts, dark atmosphere, variety of songs, modern style
along with epic sounds and many many songs.
3. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE "ATLANTIS" AS A TITTLE,
WHERE IS IT REFERRING TO? ARE THERE MYTHICAL REFERENCES TO THE CITY OF
ALTANTIS AND THE LOST CIVILIZATION IN THIS ALBUM?

It’s a concept album about the mythic civilization
of Atlantis. Atlantis is a myth, a legend and we made an album that describes
from many aspects this story. Some believed that Atlantis was the heaven
on earth, a perfect world. Of course they had a Great army but they lost
the war with Greeks and they lost almost everything. It is said that in
this war the Atlantian Demingods fought with the Ancient Greek Gods. Musically
we tried to have a mystical atmosphere, a dark atmosphere that describes
the days of rise and fall of this empire. I suggest the fans should buy
the Digipak version, because we have a detailed booklet that includes a
very handy historical tree with names, notes, locations etc.
4. IS IT A CONCEPT ALBUM? OR THERE ARE INDEPENDENT
SONGS WITH COMMON REFERENCES?

It’s a concept album, and we are proud of it.
The story starts with the myth and the other songs describe with dark atmosphere
these ancient times.
5.WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG FROM“ATLANTIS” AND
WHY?
-
I like the first song because it’s like a narration
to the story, it’s fast and get’s you through the subject. I also like
the the 3rd song (Gods Of Nations) because it’s a great epic!
6. WHY DID YOU DO THE MIXING OF THE RECORD IN
MASTERSOUND STUDIOS? DID YOU USE COMPUTERS FOR THAT PURPOSE? DID YOU EXPERIENCE
ANY PROBLEMS?

I use a lot of equipments and basically we use
the computers for the digital effects. This time we don’t have many on
this album. Thankfully we didn’t have any hard disk crashes or shutdowns,
we took care our equipment before we made the production procedure.
7. WHICH ARE YOUR MAIN DIFFICULTIES AS A MUSICIAN
AND WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAINTAIN YOUR PERFORMANCE IN HIGH STANDARDS?

The most difficult is to get in touch with the
other members of the band. It’s also a problem to have new ideas and we
prefer to settle down and think before we make another same album.
8. HOW DO YOU THINK ATROCITY WOULD SOUND FIVE
YEARS FROM NOW? DO YOU THINK THAT YOU AND THE REST OF THE GUYS THAT CONSIST
THE BAND THAT WILL CHANGE THE STYLE OF MUSIC YOU ARE PERFORMING?

I really don’t know, that’s a difficult question.
Everything is possible. It depends on the other members of the band also.
We might change a bit but I am not pretty sure about the future.
9. ARE YOU SATISFIED FROM THE CORRESPONDENCE OF
THE FANS TO YOUR ALBUMS?
-
Yeah! There is a good relationship between us
and our fans. They like to come see us at the tour and they support our
albums for all these years.
10. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN WEBPAGEIN THE INTERNET…DO
YOU THINK THAT INTERNET IS A MEDIA THAT HELPS YOU TO PROMOTE YOUR ALBUMS
AND REST MERCHADIZING STUFF EASIER TO THE FANS, THAN GO TO A METAL STORE?

I think, it helps us to communicate easier with
lots of people. It’s an open window. But the bad things are when people
download from the Internet music. It’s bad for the music. I prefer to go
to a store and buy a record. I enjoy the feeling of a new album.
11. YES, BUT AS YOU KNOW THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS
A VERY TRICKY BUSINESS. THERE ARE A LOT OF BANDS, AND THE PRICES OF THE
RECORDS ARE VERY HIGH.

I thinkt that’s the main problem. They should
all come to a standard price, not very expensive, so the metal fans buy
records than download them into their hard discs.
12. BACK TO THE MUSIC, WHAT ABOUT LIVE SHOWS?
WILL YOU BE PLAYING ALONG WITH OTHER BANDS OR SOLO? WILL WE SEE YOU PLAYING
IN GREECE SOMEDAY?

We will play on Summer to some festivals and I
hope we will come to Greece along with another band. I know Sakis from
Rotting Christ and he always says that Atrocity must come to play here.
It would be very interesting with the Atlantis album.
13.SPEAKING OF TRAVELLING…AIN'T YOU AWARE OF THE
LATEST TERRORIST ACTS OF AL KAIDHA IN PARIS? DO YOU THINK SOMEDAY PEOPLE
STOP LIVING WITH THIS FEAR?

It’s awful when you are afraid to travel, when
there is danger to travel. I am happy that the Germans didn’t want to send
armies at Iraq. We would be more aware of a terrorist act. You know, empires
rise and fall. Take as an example the Atlantis (short laugh), they meet
their years of rising and then they were lost. Maybe, the same will happen
with the Americans. It’s bad when you enforce peace with violence.
You create a chain reaction and you don’t know who will be the last cringle
of this chain.
