BEJELIT
-
I don't
have much to say for this band. They are simply incredible. I think you
have to listen to them, to realise what they are really capable of...
1.TELL US IN A FEW WORDS THE MOST IMPORTANT
MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY. WHICH IS TODAY'S LINE UP?
-
Ok, the most important moments of the
band was when we decided to be a real band and not a garage band and when
we reached our actually line-up which is really strong. We’re real friends
and we live not so far each other. Well, another great moment was just
after the recording session of your second demo…we understood to have some
chances to record an album! We’ve just changed a guitarplayer for musical
reasons so the actual line-up is this: Sandro Capone guitars, Giorgio Novarino
bass, Fabio Privitera vocals, Guz guitars and (me) Giulio Capone drums.
2.WHAT DOES YOUR NAME MEAN? HOW
DID YOU SELECT IT? HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK IS THE CORRECT CHOICE OF
A BAND NAME?
-
Our name is the name of the little
object that you can see at the neck of some characters of the manga Berserk.
It’s like an egg with nose, eyes and mouth which can make your dreams come
true. I think every reader who know Berserk will know it better than meJ.
We changed a lot of names for many reasons. We had Skyblade, AngelFire
and so on…you know, early names very powerfull ahahahaha Then we changed
our name into Nightshade which is a poison also because our music was darker
yet. When we saw that there was another band called Nightshade with also
an album released we decided to change our name for the last time into
Bejelit embracing the concept about Berserk for the first time. I think
it’s very important to have a name linked to your music don’t you
think so? Expecially if your music is based on a story or a book like our…
3.WHICH ARE THE BAND'S INFLUENCES?
NAME SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED ALBUMS.
-
Some reviews made a parallel between
us a some great band of 80’s like Omen, Hellstar and Liege Lord…Well, our
sound is similar to the sound of those bands but we hadn’t the will to
remake their sound of course…I think that nowdays too many bands are to
busy to play something strange, progressive and they forget that Heavy
metal is also power and fun! So maybe we have same attitude those bands
had. Anyway our influences are too many to be mentioned…my brother Sandro
is surely influenced by Children of Bodom albums while our bass player
loves Symphony X. Our singer Fabio is a great Iron Maiden fan and about
me I listen everything I canJ So as you can see our influences are really
different. Personally I can tell you that my favourite three metal albums
are: Stratovarius“Dreamspace”, Angra “Holy Land” and Keeper of the seven
keys from Helloween.
4.TELL US SOME GENERAL THINGS
ON THE BAND RELEASES. ARE YOU STILL SATISFIED OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D
LIKE TO CHANGE?
-
Well, I think that it’s very difficult
to be completly satisfied of a work but anyway we can say that We like
Bones and Evil! Of course we could be happier if our CD was a debut album
and not only a promo CD… When we listen to our CD maybe we would like to
have more power, I mean we woudl like to have more impact but as I told
you before we like it very much! In the next recording session in
November we’ll try to improve our sound! In a review a guy wrote that we
should explore our Thrash side, so the new songs are heavier and more “evil”J
5.YOU SAY IN YOUR BAND BIO THAT
YOUR LYRICS ARE INSPIRED BY KENTARO MIURA'S MANGA "BERSERK". COULD YOU
TELL US SOME MORE THINGS ABOUT IT?
-
Sure! Berserk is a manga masterpiece
of our days! In our early days we wrote lyrics based on tales, books and
everything we liked to but without a concept or a link… Then reading Berserk
we found very interesting to write music based on it and Berserk fits very
well with our kind of music, fast and heavy! The name Bejelit comes from
that talisman with eyes, a mouth and a nose which is the key to bring your
deepest dreams and ambitions to life. In Bloodsign we speak about the main
character Guts and also in Bones and Evil we speak about a cruel battle
in a forest between Guts and an horde of evil souls that took some skeletons
as bodies to fight. Then there’s Death Chariot and this is our very first
song and then The Haunter of the Dark. These two songs are not based on
Berserk. The first one speaks about a man who’s dying while the second
one is based on a tale of a American writer of 20’s, H.P. Lovecraft
maybe as you saw from the title…eheheh The last two songs of our CD are
I won’t die Everyday which is our first ballad about the little girl who
is trapped in her room in the early issues of Berserk and the last one
Bejelit is half-based on Berserk ‘cause it’s not about a particular episode
but it creates a parallel episode.
6.WHAT MADE YOU DESPITE BEING
HEAVY METAL FANS ALSO TRY TO COMOPOSE AND PLAY YOUR OWN MUSIC?
-
This thing was automatic and natural…We
were playing our instruments before to listen to heavy metal so was naturally
that our way to play was heavy influenced by our listenings. I was used
to listen to Queen and rock music but when I started to listen to heavy
metal it was obvious to play and compose in that way. For example my brother
Sandro was playin’ piano but when he started this band he started also
to play guitar and compose this music. The same thing happened to the singer
Fabio.
7.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN'T
ABLE TO COMPOSE MUSIC?
-
I really don’t know…maybe I'd choose
to go on studying biology… But I think that the power to write good music
is inside all human being! We’ve just to discover it and not to do it just
for a second goal.
8.WHICH WERE THE REACTIONS OF THE
FANS AND PRESS ON YOUR CD'S? WHICH WAS THE BEST AND WHICH WAS THE WORST
REVIEW YOU HAVE RECEIVED?
-
We had just few reviews because we
recorded it in June and I think we should wait ‘till November to have a
main view of our work but anyway we had just good reviews and a great response!!!
Maybe the best thing about our reviews is that the reviewers understood
the spirit behind our music. No will to amaze anyone, no will to say “HEY
LOOK AT ME HOW I’M A FAST PLAYER” just good music and all the feeling we
had during the composition. Anyway in our site you’ll find all our reviews
uploaded every day…
9.HAVE YOU CONTACTED ANY LABELS
THIS FAR? IF YES, WHICH WERE THE REACTIONS?
-
Yes, we contacted some labels personally
and we sent a ton of cd! We’re speaking with some labels about a possible
debut cd…The reactions were always the same, they liked our cd maybe because
they saw that we’re a “live” band! We can play everything we recorded and
we’re ready for the stage.
10.WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING TO DO IN
THE FUTURE? CAN YOU SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES FROM YOUR LIVE APPEARANCES WITH
US?
-
In Bejelit's future there are a lot
of new songs we wrote during this summer and maybe a new record session
before December. The style will be the same but now we’re more sure about
our instruments. There’s also a mini suite long 9 minutes…but it’s anyway
a Bejelit suite so no super orchestrations and a lot of heavy metal!!!
Of course we are planning to play a lot but it’s very difficult to play
live here. So we had just two gigs here, they were really good!!! The audience
was great!!!! I can’t imagine a Bejelit gig in Greece where the audience
in more wild that here!!!!! Your metalhead rule!!!!!! I played a lot with
my old band Pandaemonium where I was the keyboardsplayer and this was my
“first time” with drums live!!! Also for some members of Bejelit was the
first time to play live!!! We can say just: wow, that’s great!!There’re
few keyboards parts in our songs so we don’t need a keyboardplayer of course
but anyway we should like to bring our sound complete to the stage, so
we’ll use a minidisc with our keyboards parts.
11.IF SOMEDAY YOU HAD THE CHANCE
TO MEET THE CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHICH WOULD YOUR BIGGEST
QUESTION BE?
-
Uh…what a question!J Let’s see…I would
ask why he created death…think about this, the world if full of great things,
nature, culture, love of your girl, and also heavy metal…then we lose everything…it’s
like a waiter that let us try a cool food and then when we want more take
the dish away. It’s quite cruel don’t ya think?? I’m not a pessimist but
sometimes when I think to these things I can’t hold to say” Fuck!!!”.
12.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
-
Sex and money of course! We do everything
for those ahahahahahah
-
It’s bad but it’s the human nature…the
biggest it’s power. Think about some famous characters of the past, who
wanted the power to keep everything in their hands! Also the power to give
life and to give death!! Also the Bejelit is a power symbol…the man who
has it can do everything he wants to!!!!
13.ITALIAN METAL SCENE BECAME
VERY FAMOUS LATELY. HOWEVER THESE PAST FEW YEARS WE LISTEN TO MORE AND
MORE BANDS FROM OVER THERE COPYING ONE ANOTHER. WHY DO YOU THINK THIS HAPPENS?
-
Italy was full of good musicians but
metal was really a little thing compared to the trend music so was really
difficult also to say “Hey I play heavy metal!” People would say “ahhh
great…the music of the devil!”. Thanks to band like Rhapsody and Labyrynth
we showed our metal side to the world but a lot of those musicians were
playing when the italian metal wasn’t so famous yet! Of course as we have
good bands we had also a lot of clone-bands…I know a lot of them which
play just to follow the trend and so on…The fastest way to be famous is
to play the music people likes! I prefer not to be famous but to play my
music without thinking about the vogue.
14.ARE YOU ANNOYED BY THOSE GUYS
WHO JUDGE THE ARTISTIC VALUE OF A RELEASE BY THE NUMBER OF COPIES IT SELLS?
-
Really a lot!!!! I hate this way to
think… We can’t judge an album just because it didn’t sell so much… 200
people can buy a cd of a famous band, listen to it just one time and then
close it in a box…while a band can sell just 10 copies but their listeners
will listen to their album for two months without stop it!!!! So who knows
the real value of a band… I mean that nowadays a lot of people look just
if the band is famous or if it’s full of great guests…I prefer to listen
to a clip of the album and if I like it, to buy it. I think that internet
is very good for this kind of music! You can try an album and buy it if
you like! There’re too many albums with great guest and poor about music!
15.THERE IS A RUNNING WILD CONTEST
GOING ON. THE BAND'S INTERESTED COVER A SONG AND THEN THEY PUT IT ONLINE
IN THE RUNNING WILD SITE AND THE FANS GET TO SELECT THE SONGS THAT WILL
BE CONTAINED IN THE TRIBUTE. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING?
-
Wow! It could be great! Why not? Running
Wild is a band that I like particulary! But what song? It’s a very hard
choice.
16.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE,
WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU
MISS THE MOST FROM OUR TIME?
-
Another difficult question…I’d like
to visit the pirates period eheheheh I like that part of history a lot!!!
I’ll miss most heavy metal music…
17.WHAT PROLOGUE AND TITLE WOULD
YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
-
The title could be something like:
Let’s talk about “Bones and Evil” with the Bejelit drummer Giulio. Is it
good?? And the prologue I think it’s your work ehehehJYou’re the chief!J
18.THANK YOU!HAVE I FORGOTTEN
TO ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
-
You didn’t forget anything! Thanks
to you, and to all the Greek metal guys!!!! You’re truly the best!!!! We
hope to record soon an album and maybe to be able to play there in your
great country! I’d like just to mention our website where you can find
everything about us at http://www.bejelit.has.it
and if you want to order our CD please write to [email protected]
Greeting from Bejelit and STAY HEAVY!
