BESTIAL
MOCKERY
"Black
metal never intended to please anyone. If people feel offended by Black
Metal they should stay away. It’s as simple as that." Warslaughter says...
I found this interview to be very interesting in terms that you have
the chance to discuss about varius stuff and listen to the point of view
other people have, not always matching your own. I could conitnue this
conversation for long, cause there are some things I don't agree with and
this is what makes a talk become fertile, doesn't it?
1.YOU BELONG TO THE UNDERGROUND SCENE
FOR QUITE A LONG. CAN YOU LIST US THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S
HISTORY? WHICH IS TODAY'S LINE UP?
Warslaughter – Alright. That would
be the first rehearsal which was an overwhelming, fucked up experience.
That experience more or less made us who we are. Next big thing was getting
in contact with Mad Max, who helped us get where we are today. And all
live gigs of corpse, all important in it’s own way. Now, this is what I
personally think is the most important things, and I can’t speak for the
others who might have a different view. Todays line-up consists of: Devilpig
– bass, Master Motorsåg – vocals and chainsaw, Doomanfanger – guitar,
Ted Bundy – guitar, and me, Warslaughter – drums. It’s a good, stable line-up
which will give the world more noise to feed on.
2.WHY HAVE YOU NAMED THE BAND
THIS WAY? WHAT'S YOUR MEANING?
W – Because what we do and perform
is a bestial mockery of judeochristianity, of life in peace, of the ways
of light, of the morals of today, of whatever... It’s not a name that doesn’t
mean anything, just a cool black metal name you know. It something I personally
can stand for. Fuck The World!
3.WHICH BANDS INFLUENCED YOU? WHICH
BAND AND SONG IN SPECIFIC MADE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO IS
PLAY HEAVY METAL?
W – There are a few bands that
have influenced Bestial Mockery more than others and they are Slayer, Sadistik
Exekution, Anticimex and Bestial Warlust. Not only because of their music,
but also for their attitude and image so to say. Those bands have been
a source of inspiration. Then there are many other bands that have influenced
us over the years. To name a few: Darkthrone, Sodom, Venom, Nun Slaughter,
plus a large number of others... It’s rather irrelevant I think. We sound
like we sound and it doesn’t matter if we had Slayer or Boy George as our
influence. We still sound like we do. I think I have wanted to play in
a band since I was a kid and heard Heavy Metal the first time. I can’t
think of any specific song or band, but if I have to name something I’d
say Judas Priest and the song Sinner from the Sin After Sin album since
it was my first Metal record.
4.EXCEPT FOR BLACK METAL WHAT OTHER
METAL GENRES DO YOU LISTEN TO AND WOULD LIKE TO PLAY?
W – I listen to a lot Death Metal
too. Also Thrash and Heavy Metal spins on my vinyl player. Right now I
listen to a lot of punk too. It all goes in periods back and forth, and
at the moment it’s a lot of punk. Other than that it’s medieval music,
some 70’s rock, garage rock, noise, country and huge load of shit music.
I listen to music I can get something out of, and I don’t think so much
about what it is. But I would never ever listen to hip-hop or gay music
like that. There are limits. I don’t think I wanna play in any other bands
than those I’m already a member of, Bestial Mockery and Sons of Satan,
of which Bestial Mockery is the number one priority. It’s more than enough
for me, I have no wish to express myself in any other way than this.
5.TELL US SOME GENERAL THINGS ABOUT
THE BAND RELEASES AND MOSTLY CONCENTRATE ON YOUR FULL LENGTH ALBUM "CHRISTCRUSHING
HAMMERCHAINSAW". COMPARE THEM AMONG THEM. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OBSERVE?
ARE YOU STILL SATISFIED WITH THEM OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE TO CHANGE?
W – First “release” was a rehearsal
promo entitled Battle which came out ’96 I think. From what I remember
(it was ages since I listened to it) it contained three tracks: “Christcrushing...”,
“Dead” and “Chainsaw fucking down the church”, all quite crude and shitty
versions of songs which later ended up on the first demo Christcrushing
Hammerchainsaw -’97. This one had five tracks plus intro and was pressed
in 200 copies. The sound was rather lame, but since it was our first recording
and the guy who had the studio had only dealt with dance music it’s not
that strange. Next demo, Chainsaw Demons Return came ’98, contained six
songs and was much rawer than the demo before. It was better all in all,
and was also released in 200 copies (..I think). Next release was the split
live tape with LUST Live For Violence in ‘99. It had songs from two gigs
on our side. I don’t remember how many copies it was limited to, I don’t
even have the tape myself. In early 2000 the split 7” EP with Suicidal
Winds, Nuclear Goat, came out. It featured three tracks on our side, wicked
in their own way all three of them, but very different from eachother.
The songs were recorded at the same occasion the next demo, WAR – The Final
Solution –’00, was. It had six songs, faster and maybe more “Black Metal-ish”
than before. It was released in 388 copies and was just as the split with
LUST, released by Mad Max’s Impaler of Trendies Prods. Then, in 2001, the
Chainsaw Execution LP came out, limited to 350 copies. As a sort of “best
of” release it contained tracks from all our previous releases + some other
more obscure stuff, sixteen tracks all in all. Don’t know if it’s still
available, write to Sombre Recs. to check that out. So, next release is
then the Christcrushing Hammerchainsaw LP/CD. It was recorded in January
and released in, when was it, April or May something, now 2002. It has
ten tracks, 4 old and six newer ones. The older ones are taken from our
two first demos, two songs from each. Of the newer ones most are fast pieces,
only “Raise the Chalice” is the exception here, which is a slower, more
rocking song. What can I say more about Christcrushing...? It’s a natural
continuation of the previous releases, just further on down the same path
so to say. There is of course things I want to change now afterwards, like
for example the drum sound, but that is things you always think about when
everything is done. It’s nothing to care that much about, better to move
on ahead and try better the next time. You should look out for the A Sign
of Satanic Victory 7” EP which should be out by now. Four tracks of violence,
darkness, hate and fucking chaos mayhem!!
6.TELL US SOME THINGS ABOUT THE SPLIT
CD AND THE 7'' EP YOU ARE ABOUT TO RELEASE...
The 7” EP will, as I said before,
be called A Sign of Satanic Victory, and it will be released by Warlord
Records (Ita). It contains four tracks: “Blackened Death”, “Circumsising
Vagina (with bottle the blunt)”, “Fucking Dike” and “Bloodstained in Necronorth”.
It was recorded late 2001 in heaven and has a very violent sound, fitting
good with the violent songs. There’s not much more to say about that one
I guess, except that it’s dedicated to Fucked up Mad Max and it has a very
cool cover. Now, we’re not going to release any split CD, but we’re going
to release a split 7” EP with Unholy Massacre from Brazil. It will be released
on Deathstrike Records who made the re-released of the WAR – the Final
Solution demo. I don’t remember if it’s two or three songs we will have,
but at least two are recorded at the same time we recorded the A Sign...
songs. Those two songs are called “Chainsaw Metal” and “Lies of Peace”.
That’s it I suppose.
7.WHY DO YOU THINK METAL KEEPS INVOLVING
SO MUCH RELIGION AND THE OCCULT?
W – For many different reasons
I’d say. If we look at the beginning of Metal, or at least what Metal later
would evolve from, we see the late 60’s and early 70’s hard rock music
with pioneers like Led Zeppelin and so on. Now, Led Zeppelin had many influences
from the occult (alchemical symbols, alot of flirts with the mystical,
bla bla etc etc) which they in turn might have got from the new age thing
that rose in the late 60’s. This thing continued and rose even more in
the later half of the 70’s when NWoBHM began to make it’s presence. In
the 80’s Metal came as an institution and also turned into a rebellion
against society, religion and the values of the western world. Then came
Venom and the rest is history. Death and Black Metal came and people started
getting really serious about Satanism and the occult. When people get involved
in extreme Metal they read the lyrics and becomes interested in what they
deal about which is often Satanic, occult topics. And from there it carries
on in a “downward spiral”, haha! Also, there is the fact that bands from
the more extreme genres often makes ties to Satanic and/or occult orders
or other obscure circles, and this happens vice versa too, so the ties
grow stronger. Once the path was chosen for Metal, there was no return.
8.IF YOU WEREN'T ABLE TO COMPOSE MUSIC,
WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?
W – I think I would do more or
less what I’m doing now apart from playing in Bestial Mockery. I’m studying
to be able to in a year or two enter the military academy. After two years
there I will be able to work as an officer in the Swedish Army. That is
my primary goal as for now, besides doing gigs and making albums with Bestial
Mockery. Master Motorsåg is studying history and archeology and I
suppose he would do the same even if he didn’t play in Bestial Mockery.
For the other three, I think they would do the same as they do now too.
You know, it’s not like all we do in life is playing music. We actually
have other things to spend time on too.
9.WHICH IS THE WORST AND WHICH IS THE
BEST REVIEW YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
W – Can’t remember that. We have
got some great reviews in Canadian Assault which have been among the best.
As for bad reviews, we actually haven’t got that many, strangely enough.
I don’t know what the problem is with people, but they seem to like what
we do, stupid fucks.
10.WHICH IS THE BEST PART IN YOUR MUSIC
AND IN THE BAND IN GENERAL AND WHICH THING DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD
CORRECT? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU NEED IMPROVEMENT?
W – The best part would be our
simplicity. We keep it simple and powerful. If we would start with a lot
of nice touches and sissy influences it all would fall apart, we would
loose our credibility. So we stay true to what we do best, simple brutal
chainsaw Black Metal. It’s better to know what you do best and stick to
it than set off into a world of a thousand possibilities and just blow
it ‘cause you can’t handle it. Sounds a bit narrowminded, but I don’t think
it hurts being a little bit narrowminded when it comes to music, it rather
creates a distinctive sound of the band concerned. Look at Darkthrone for
example, being extremely minimalistic, they have created their own sound
which is really awesome. So, to stick to our simplicity and raw power is
our strength. I don’t think there’s anything we should correct really,
mistakes done are done. But what we could use improvement in is as always
our ability to handle our instruments. Not that I would like to be able
to perform a jazz drum solo in the middle of a song, but there is always
some things one can be better with. It’s nothing to bother about really,
I guess we get better in time.
11.AND SUDDENLY BLACK METAL BECOMES
POPULAR! MORE AND MORE NEW BANDS POP OUT SIGNING WITH BIG LABELS. HOW DO
YOU FIND ALL THIS? WOULD YOU RECORD AN ALBUM FOR A HUGE LABEL IF YOU WERE
GIVEN THE CHANCE?
W – At the same time it’s strange
it both seem as a sign of the times and a natural evolution of things.
You know, it’s not like we’ve jumped from classical music into Black Metal
directly. The whole 20th century has been an evolution of music, and in
some ways it has gone harder and harder with the years. Therefore it isn’t
strange that people start liking extreme music. Death Metal bands has been
doing world tours for many years so in that sense it’s not strange that
this happened to Black Metal too. But then again, what kind of bands is
it that hit the charts? For sure not the likes of Bestial Warlust, Blasphemy
etc, but it is the likes of Dimmu Borgir and CoF who do all in their power
to sell. Those bands have betrayed the very essence of Black Metal. It
was never meant to be widely available, for every dumb teenage kid to get
their hands on. This was never the meaning, but maybe it was inevitable.
Dimmu Borgir and CoF and their fellow friends may claim that it’s nothing
wrong with making money on a growing antichristian awakening or whatever
they want it to be, they may claim that it’s nothing wrong with a music
genre finally getting big and cashing in, but what they don’t seem to understand
is that there will not be any worldwide antichristian awakening this way
‘cause they are hitting in the wrong direction anyway. You can’t convert
a christian into a satanist by saying you would like to sacrifice virgins
to the Devil. And this isn’t just another music genre getting big. It’s
Black Metal and Black Metal isn’t blues or jazz or gospel or whatever.
Black Metal was never meant to be the music for the masses, end of story.
I don’t know if they’re trying to be the new Marilyn Manson, but Marilyn
Manson is a fucking cunt anyway. Black Metal is the Devil’s music and shall
so remain. Now, I’m not afraid Black Metal will be exploited by commercialism,
‘cause the underground is still alive and it never bends. And no, Bestial
Mockery would never sign for a huge label even if we got the chance, we
feel perfectly well staying underdogs.
12.MANY EXTREME METAL BANDS EXPRESS
RACISTIC IDEOLOGIES. WHICH ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT? BLACK METAL WAS CHASED
A LOT IN THE PAST. SHOULDN'T THIS MAKE THE BANDS AND THE FANS MORE SENSITIVE
IN SUCH MATTERS?
W – Why should we? We were never
here to please anyone. If people feel offended by Black Metal they should
stay away. It’s as simple as that. There are of course many reasons why
bands express racial ideologies but I think the most important one may
be realism. Take a look at the world and it’s history. What did the black
man ever do for the world? Well, they lived in mud huts until white colonists
came. Where did the greatest scourge of mankind, judeo-christianity derive
from? Semitic slave-tribes = kikes, is the answer. It’s not that strange
that people are racists, is it? White man is the superior being and will
always be. But I won’t go on more about this now, ‘cause you can read about
these things in almost every mag nowadays, and maybe, just maybe, I don’t
have all the answers.
13.WHY DO YOU USE NICKNAMES AND NOT
YOUR REAL LIFE NAMES?
W – Again I must say, why should
we? To use a nom de guerre is tradition in Black Metal and we have simply
chosen to stick to that tradition.
14.YOU WANT TO GO THE THE OTHER SIDE,
CLAIMING YOUR HATRED FOR CHRISTIANITY. DON'T YOU THINK THAT WHAT YOU DO,DOESN'T
SEPERATE YOU FROM ALL THOSE CHRISTIAN "SHEPPARDS"? DON'T YOU THINK THAT
THE EXACTLY OPPOSITE SIDES FROM A POINT ON USE THE SAME METHODS AND CAN'T
BE SEPERATED?
W – No, I deny the existance of
a God and that of his bastard son, but I fully believe in the Devil. He
is the force of darkness, power and evil that exists within and surrounds
every human being. It is the genuine force of destruction that licks the
world. All the suffering and meaningless deaths, the lament of women who
have lost their children. The urge to kill, the feelings of revenge...
All that, and much, much more. He exists and He rules the world. The Bringer
of Light, clear and pure. What is christianity then? A belief built on
hope, the most vain and meaningless of all rotten emotions. Nothing is
created by hope and nothing will ever be. It is also a belief which relies
on fright for it’s existance. See it as a castle with it’s walls made of
Fear and it’s highest tower made of Hope. Such a castle falls easily in
a siege, ‘cause in the end it is made of nothing at all. I can’t see how
I would have anything in common with such feeble beliefs.
15.IF SOMEDAY YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO
MEET THE CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHICH WOULD YOUR BIGGEST QUESTION
BE?
W – “So, what’s your next
move?”
16.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHICH
HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU MISS
THE MOST FROM OUR TIME?
W – I would first go to the Roman
times, and visit the Empire in all it’s glory and power. Then I would go
to the Middle Ages, 12th or 13th Century and see how Europe grows in power
again after the chaos of the fallen Empire. See the castles along the Rhine
and the wars fought. Then I would make a big jump to the time of the second
world war to see the birth of mechanized warfare and the beautiful destruction.
And finally, I would like to visit the Vietnam war and experience jungle
warfare and go by helicopters into hot LZ’s, hehe... There’s alot of things
I would like to have seen, but as it is now I guess I have to feel satisfied
reading about gone epochs. Maybe books of todays great supply would be
among the things I would miss the most. And Metal then, of corpse.
17.WHAT PROLOGUE AND TITLE WOULD YOU
LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
W – Title: “Going to the bottom
with Bestial Mockery at the bottom the Abyss” or “Warslaughter’s Table
Talks” or “Devilworshipping, pot-smoking, alcoholistic weapon fanatics
speak out”. Prologue: you have to find that one out by yourself.
18.THANK YOU!HAVE I FORGOT TO ASK YOU
ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
W – Thanx for this intie! I don’t
think you forgot to ask anything, or what do I know? Don’t know... Ok,
you maniacs out there, if you have the cash to spend then buy Christcrushing
Hammerchainsaw CD/LP from Metalblood Music and/or A Sign of Satanic Victory
7” EP from Warlord Records. Prepare for total destructive desecration!
Stay realist and extremist!
