BIOMECHANICAL
-
Super band biomechanical with their
life changing music are about to burst through the scenes and after 200
sold out shows around the world are about to embark on a Herculean crusade
playing (for the first time ever) on a satellite over Mars. The gig will
be transmitted live and special effects will include the destruction of
the sun!! Unfortunately nobody will survive this (including the band) but
it's going to be one hell of a show! Please post you comments now before
the gig 'cause you won't survive it to praise us on a later date.
1. FIRST OF ALL THE 4 SONGS FROM YOUR
NEW ALBUM THAT I HAD THE CHANCE TO LISTEN TO LEFT ME GREAT IMPRESSIONS.
GIVE US A SHORT BAND BIO. HOW DID YOU GET TO ENGLAND FROM THESSALONIKI
AND WHO ARE THE REST BIOMECHANICAL?
-
Happy you like our stuff!! We are working
our asses off at the moment to finish off our debut album 'Eight Moons'
which we plan to release this summer. The band has been together since the
summer of 2001.I first recorded a production demo with guitarist Steve
Forward. Shortly after this recording the band was managed by Steve Brown
the producer of "The Cult" and "The Manic street Preachers" who introduced
the band to a wide array of collaborators and supporters including Malcolm
Dome-the senior editor of Metal Hammer UK. Also introduced to the band
was the conceptual artist and web designer Lee Ellis.
-
After the Biomechanical site was on
line the band released a four track demo titled "Distorted" which gathered
good reviews from both Internet metal sites and magazines such as Metal
Hammer UK, Terrorizer, Metal Hammer GR and many others. As I wrote above
we are now mixing our debut album "Eight Moons" and we will also open this
year's Bloodstock 02 metal fest.
-
As of how I got to England, I got a
OA323 flight from Macedonia Airport and met my girlfriend at Heathrow Airport
at about 5.25 PM (only kidding :-)) ). The truth it's that going from one
country to another must be one of the most difficult things ever!-that's
if your parents aren't loaded-. It was a big decision but I realised that
even if there was a chance in a million to make it I had to give it a go(
I know..you're probably thinking "what a dick!"). The beginning was horrific
from any point of view. I won't go into the financial situation but musically
there was an absolute darkness around me. I came to England around 1995
and by that time the only bands that were making good metal music were
Pantera, Maiden and.....Pantera and Maiden. The Oasis phenomenon had obliterated
any chance of Metal making a comeback and the only music with distorted
guitars that had any success was from Elastica, Pulp, Blur and this kind
of shit (oups!...did I say that out loud??). So as you can imagine there
were no bands, no valid musicians and everybody took the piss big time.
-
It's only at the beginning of 2000
that things started to change quite a bit. I know that die hard fans hate
linkin Park and bands like that but they have brought back some mass attention
to the metal music- just watch Rob Halford with Sum 41 and Tommy Lee on
the drums-. It was then that I got inspired to give it a go and decided
to put together Biomechanical..the rest is hysterectomy..:-)
2.TO BE HONEST WHEN I HEARD THE BAND
NAME I THOUGHT THAT YOU PLAYED INDUSTRIAL. I WAS WRONG! HOW HAVE YOU SELECTED
THE BAND NAME?
-
I was watching Independence Day over
a large backed of salted popcorn and a large coke and at some point the
mad scientist on area 51 said 'these aliens wear some sort of a biomechanical
suit' and I said to my self 'what a f*^&%ing great name for a band!!!
I was also interested in the comic 'Spawn', 'The Darkness' kind of thing
so I felt the name was great for what I was trying to do.
3.YOUR CD COULD EASILY BE THE SOUNDTRACK
FOR A SCINCE FICTION MOVIE. AT LEAST I HAVE THAT IMPRESSION. DO YOU AGREE?
WERE YOU THINKING TO CREATE SUCH AN ATMOSPHERE? FOR WHICH MOVIE WOULD YOU
LIKE YOUR MUSIC TO BECOME THE SOUNDTRACK?
-
You get this impression probably because
my main influences come from the filmscoring world. I was listening (and
still do listen)to soundtracks from composers such as Williams and Goldsmith
since I was eight years old and I always wanted to combine metal with orchestral
music of this kind. The result -I hope- is both interesting and powerful.
As for the movie ...I have no idea how about Eight Moons:The movie? :-).
4.TELL US SOME GENERAL STUFF FOR THE
ALBUM. WHERE WAS THE PRODUCTION BEEN MADE, WHO WAS THE PRODUCER, ABOUT
THE MUSIC...
-
The album is recorded @ my studio and
I produced it-what a pain in the butt!!!- by myself. The music was actually
written sometime ago but I had no band to play it. It has taken me a lot
of time looking for musicians and after about two years I finally put together
a very good line-up that is featured on the demo and album.
5.WHAT ARE THE LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
IS IT A CONCEPT...
-
yes it is a concept album. The lyrics
talk about the need to be strong against our darkest fears. I felt that
my way of telling the story should be through a Sci-Fi approach (being
a Sci-fi freak!!).It's a story about a guy who is down-and out by day,
living on the streets with only hope to die soon so that his torment will
be over. Battered by his own fears and weaknesses he created a parallel
world were he is becoming a Biomechanical creature strong enough to slay
his fears that take the form of unspeakable creatures. It's basically a
way to represent real life through a sci-fi story. There is nothing more
real than fear.
6.YOU PLAY A MIXTURE OF MODERN HEAVY/POWER
WITH SOME SPEED ELEMENTS. DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR ALBUM COULD BECOME A SUCCESS
HERE IN GREECE, WHERE THE FANS LISTEN TO MORE CLASSIC AND TYPICAL STUFF?
-
I think so. The Greek audience is extremely
diverse and people listen music from AC/DC to Carcass! So hopefully will
like what we do.
7.HAVE YOU SENT THE PROMO TO ANY LABELS?
WAS THERE ANY INTEREST? IF YES, CAN YOU TELL US SOME NAMES?
-
We have done a lot of work promoting
our music and I have to say that we had some good reactions from giants
such as Sanctuary UK, SPV Germany, Spitfire UK and smaller companies such
as Revolver, Nightmare records and others. Unfortunately the big labels
want you to reach Judas Priest status before they will consider signing
you so we had to put things on hold for a while. But I can't wait to take
things further with some other labels and set a release date
8.CAN YOU TELL US WHY DECEPTOR DISBANDED
AND IF THERE'S ANY CHANCE THEIR MUSIC TO BE RELEASED IN A CD OR VINYL FORM?
-
Oh you know...band crap! After a few
years of still looking for a record deal tensions grow to huge proportions
and the inevitable happens. I think the Cult Metal Classics wants to release
some demos and live stuff through vinyl.
9.IS THERE A CHANCE TO PUT ANY DECEPTOR
SONGS IN BIOMECHANICAL?
-
I wouldn't think so. Deceptor was good
for what it was and I am very proud of the band but it was very different
from what I do now.
10.SURELY DECEPTOR AND BIOMECHANICAL
DIFFER A LOT. ARE THERE ANY COMMON PARTS THOUGH?
-
I think on the singing maybe and definitely
power wise there are similarities.
11.WHAT DOES THE COVER OF THE CD SHOW?
AND WHICH IS THE CONNECTION WITH THE LYRICS?
-
The CD will feature our logo which
is a Yin-Yan of an embryo right across a mechanical shaped embryo. The
logo represents the name. There is going to be a lot of detail on the inlay...too
much to write down for you. Have a look when it's out and I hope you'll
like it.
12.WHAT OTHER NEW ALBUMS HAVE YOU LISTENED
TO AND YOU LIKED AND WHICH ARE YOUR 5 ALL TIME CLASSIC ALBUMS?
-
new albums?... I quite like Mudvain
(Check my spelling on that :-) ) and some of the new stuff. Classic metal
albums hmmmm....
-
1) Judas Priest: Defenders of the Faith
-
2) Iron maiden: Powerslave
-
3)Metallica:Master of Puppets
-
4)Queensryhe: Operation Mindcrime
-
5)Pantera: Vulgar Display Of Power
13.MANY METAL MUSICIANS ACCUSE POP
STARS FOR THEIR LIFE STYLE, YET WE SEE SUCH BEHAVIOURS IN THE METAL SCENE
AS WELL (BANDS PAYING TO MAKE A COVER FOR SUCCESFUL MAGAZINES, HAVING A
GOOD REVIEW, METAL LABELS PROMOTING SPECIFIC BANDS AND GENRES EACH EPOCH,ETC).IS
IT MAYBE AFTER ALL TRUE THAT THE METAL INDUSTRY DOESN'T DIFFER FROM THE
POP? WHICH ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?
-
Don't forget that the music industry
is about making cash. Whether we like it or not the actual music has about
20 per cent significance for the financial outcome of a product. The rest
is advertising i.e. videos, radio, magazines, etc. So even if the music
differs, the way of bringing a musical product to a successful level follows
the same principals as any other musical style i.e. Pop, R&B, etc.
what actually differs a lot is the amount of money invested on new people.
For instance a hopeful pop star can have a Million pound deal were as a
metal band will (might) have a 25000 pound deal or even a £0
deal!! Great hah??
14.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
15.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHICH
HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU MISS
THE MOST FROM OUR TIME?
-
I would love to be around the time
when Tchaikovsky and Beethoven were contacting their music and just be
a spectator in a concert hall! I would'n miss the news that's for sure!..
16.WHAT PROLOGUE AND TITLE WOULD YOU
LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
-
Super band biomechanical with their
life changing music are about to burst through the scenes and after 200
sold out shows around the world are about to embark on a Herculean crusade
playing (for the first time ever) on a satellite over Mars. The gig will

17.IF SOMEDAY YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO
MEET THE CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHICH WOULD YOUR BIGGEST QUESTION
BE?
-
Why the f***ck do humans have to have
all this f**ing wars over land, money, oil and shit like that???? Why the
f**k can't we all live in piece and what is the f**ing deal with
the human society??? hah?
18.THANK YOU!HAVE I FORGOT TO ASK YOU
