Black Winter
are one of the bands that are really heart and soul dedicated to the musical
idiom they chose to serve and this is no other than pure, old school black
metal. Black metal is an underground movement and no careers or popularity
have place here...This is one of the things among others that me and Gasgorth
had a chat about...
1.HELLO! PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELVES
TO THE READERS BY STATING SOME OF YOUR MOST IMPROTANT MOMENTS AS A BAND.

Hi! First of all I'd like to thank
you for the interview as well as for the interest you saw on us!I'm Gasgorth
and I'm oneof the two guitarists of Black Winter!The rest of the members
are: Astrous (vocals), Atheist (guitar), Victor Imperator(bass) and Demonith
(drums). With Black Winter's creation a lot of changes came to ourselves,offering
us ,perhaps,the most important moments of our lives!One of those moments
was the release of our second demo that took only good reviews and made
Winter known to the underground community as well as Victor Imperstor's
add to the band who is rendering the max of his performance having us result
the groups line up to be stable for the first time allowing us to plans
for the future that is waiting us.

FROMY OUR PREVIOUS WORKS. TELL US ABOUT THE RECORDING SESSIONS, THE STUDIO,
THE PRODUCER, ETC...

After one year and a half after our
second demo the sound of Black Winter has changed because everyone of us
has improved his writing and dexterity standards.In the middle of
September we are going to record our new work under the name "Dismal Fields
of Nihilism" that consists of four tracks.the
fact is that our style has changed in comparison with our previous works
non the less "Dismal..." is still extreme infernal black metal.The recording
sessions will take place at the Nemessis studios of Kavala and it will
be producted by Chris Karapapazoglou with Winter as co producers.
3.YOU HAVE MANAGED WITH "A DARK ECHO
FROM THE DEMONIACAL HELL OF LUCIFER" TO CREATE THE RIGHT UNDERGROUND BLACK
METAL FEELING. HOW DIFFICULT WAS THIS FOR YOU AND HOW DIFFICULT IS IT IN
GENERAL? I MEAN AFTER ALL LATELY WE SEE MANY BANDS CLAIMING TO BE BLACK
METAL THAT ARE MILES AWAY FROM THE TYPICAL DARK THRONE, CARPATHIAN FOREST,
ETC. STYLE... WHICH ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?

It wasn't difficult at all for us to
achive something like that because black metal is in our hearts.Many say
that black metal is easy to perform because no great techniques are required!
That is completely false...you have to let your self be possesed by hate
in order to play black metal! Hate for the people and the god than they
made up...as you said lot of bands claim to be black metal but he who is
capable to understand the true sounding of that music knows who is worth
of all the credits...so groups like cradle of filth is only for people
of their own kind...fools!
4.IN THE BEGINNING YOU USED TO HAVING
3 GUITARS AND NOT A BASS. WHY DID YOU DO THAT? LATER ON, YOU KEPT THE 3
GUITARS AND ADDED A BASS TOO AND NOW YOU ARE THE TYPICAL 2 GUITRAS AND
A BASS BAND...WHY? HOW DID THIS INNOVATION HELP YOU ENRICH YOUR SOUND AND
STAND OUT FROM THE REST OF THE BANDS?

In the beginning we done that to create
a chaotic, raw sound...but after that we found ourselves wanting to make
our sound multilateral and thats why we added a bass guitar...we
hadn't problem with the three guitars shape but we wanted the right person...I
mean we wanted the sixth member to fit ideologically with us...so we preferred
to be something like a small community of five members that can cooperate
perfectly with each other...this all fucking thing with member-changing
lasted a long but now with Victor Imperator nothing can stop us... the
future belongs to Black Winter...
5.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO?
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS AND HOW IMRPOTANT ARE THEY FOR YOU? WHY
IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN AN ANTICHRISTIAN PROFILE AND THEMATOLOGY
FOR A BLACK METAL BAND?

The lyrics are all written by Astrous
and the reason for that is that he must feel what he is singing and be
expressed perfectly with that... lyrics have great importance to us...because
all our beliefs,dreams and nightmares are in there... at this moment I
got to say that we have changed lyrically a little in the this demo...our
sons have now a more occult sense...a song of this demo is written by Iapetos
666 of Unholy Archangel and that's because we wanted to show our respect
to that person!
6.HOW IMPORTANT IS IMAGE FOR YOU AND
WHY DO YOU USE NICKNAMES? IS IT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO CREATE AN AURA OF MYSTERYA
ROUND THE BAND OR BECAUSE YOU WANT TO KEEP A LOW PROFILE?

Image is taking always the first place
in a band's standing...and it happens whith us too! I wouldn't call it
nicknames...but anti-names! We use those antinames I said before since
the first day of the band because it gives us the oportunity to change
our soul structure! When we play with winter we are not a part of the mass...each
one of as is an individual with god like expansions(!!)!eventhough we are
having serious thoughts lots of times for their replacement with
our true names we are not doing it because something of Black Winter will
be lost...
7.YOU HAVE RECORDED SOME FO YOUR SONGS
DURING A LIVE SHOW OF YOURS AND WILL SOON RELEASE A LIVE TAPE UNDER THE
TITLE "STILL ALIVE...BUT SOON DEAD". DO YOU THINK THIS WILL HELP YOU? IN
WHICH WAYS AND WHY DO YOU PROCEED IN SUCH A RELEASE? ARE YOU IN A SEARCH
OF A RECORD LABEL? WHICH ARE THE CRITERIA YOU WILL USE TO SELECT A RECORD
LABEL?

Look the reason of this release
is something like a tribute to the bands we respect and love and everyone
that will get this tape in his hands will realise it because 5 of
the 7 thacks are covers...this matter with the companies you said is always
in our minds lately...we don't want a big company thas is going to tell
us do this ,do that...we just want them to be ok with us and trust us...
8.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS?
WHAT SHOULD THE METALLERS EXPECT FROM A BLACK WINTER LIVE SHOW? SHARE SOME
OF YOUR EXPERIENCES FROM YOUR LIVE SHOWS WITH US...

Of course...after our 3rd demo is released
we are going to make some live concerts...in Athens, Patra, Volos, Thessaloniki
and perhaps Larissa...our fans got to expect anything from a live show
of ours...and be sure that we won't dissapoint them at all!!! The feeling
when you' re on stage and play your songs and you see the people to take
part in this holocaust is just indescribable...also something I won't forget
is ourselves sleeping in the Athenian roads after our show there...total
fatique...carrying our equipment with plus four bags of chains and spikes
and all this to be accompanied with a great drunkeness....
9.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT
DOESN'T KNOW YOU, IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST? WHICH IS YOUR MOST
APPEALING ELEMENT ACCORDING TO YOU?

We don't care about that, everyone
that is going to spend sometime on us will find something different...we
don't model our image to attract listeners...
10.THE COVER ARTWORK IS VERY SIMPLE
AND IT BRINGS TO MIND THE TYPICAL UNDERGROUND EXTREME MOVEMENT. WELL, WITHOUT
BEING EXTREME THE ARTWORK, IT IS SIMPLE BUT ATMOPSHERIC AND EVEN SPOOKY
IF YOU LIKE...WHAT DOES IT REPRESENT? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO "SAY"
WITH IT? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COVER?

Dark echoes' artwork came out just
like that...it's count Vlad Tepes' castle...it makes a great union with
the demo's both title and music... it was an idea of all six (at that time)
winters members.
11.IF YOU HAD A PROPOSAL TO DO A VIDEOCLIP,
WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?

The truth is that we never thought
about that but I would pick "Hellenic War" from our new work...and as for
how I imagine this clip.... I just can't describe it.

GREAT BOOK OF CREATION, CAN YOU SAY WHICH WORD COULD DESCRIBE YOU BETTER?

I don't think that god exists...it's
an invention of foolish men... everyone is renspossible of where he goes,
but mass has to have some gods to be guided from...
