BORN
OF FIRE
-
THANKS GOD
THAT GREAT POWER METAL BAND STILL EXISTS IN THE U.S. AND REMIND US THE
GLORIOUS HEAVY METAL PAST OF THIS COUNTRY. BORN OF FIRE PLAYING EXCELENT
U.S. POWER METAL. CHECK THEM OUT!
1.TELL US IN A FEW WORDS THE
MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF
THE BAND'S HISTORY. WHICH IS TODAY'S
LINE UP?
-
Founding members are still in the armament:
Bobby Chavez, Steve Dorssom and Victor Morell. The newest members to BOF
are Chris Nelson and Dave Vineyard. Chris, a long time friend of BOF joined
ranks with BOF in early 2001. Chris brings to the band a rock solid bottom
end that rest assured compliments the band. Dave Vineyard, formerly of
Marionette signed under Vain Records in the U.S. Dave took over the position
of frontman and voice in April of 2002. If you thought the old singer was
good...just wait.
2.WHY HAVE YOU NAMED THE BAND THIS
WAY? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY TO THE METALHEADS?
-
Dave's A: I wasn't around when the
name was founded but, I like to look at the name "Born of Fire" as though
it represents rebirth. Just as time repeats itself, fortunately so does
the music industry. Of course with each "new" sound or "wave" that the
industry kicks out they label it as being fresh and new. Nothing could
be further from the truth. Every band, musician, writer and what have you,
have their roots and influences. Which in turn we have todays music with
the backbone of yesterday in one genre or another. Just as with any art,
you will see/hear little tid bits here and there of some other artists.
Its all in the hearts and ears of the listener. So if you were to ask me,
"Is BOF writing music that doesn't sound like anything you've ever heard?
I would have to say no. However BOF is evolving almost on a daily basis.
Subtly moving into it's own, just as it has been. Carry the Flame!
3.HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
WHICH BANDS DO YOU LOOK UP TO AND WHICH DO YOU FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE NO PLACE
IN THE METAL COMMUNITY?
-
Dave's A: Let me start by saying this.
PAIN! No not the kinda of pain that we blame on our Mothers and Fathers
(It's not their fault!) or the pain of breaking bones, but the pains of
life and all the glory's that come with it. I personally look up to many
bands/artists, some signed and some unsigned. If a band or artist can move
me or make me feel what they have to say. I look up to that. They deserve
to be commended in the highest way. Personally I dont like the branding
of music. I realize it's essential for sales, but it all comes down to
this... Either you like it or you dont.
4.THESE PAST FEW YEARS THERE ARE MANY
NEW BANDS COMING OUT WITH A SOUND CLOSE TO THE 70'S AND 80'S METAL. THE
OLD SCHOOL. WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS HAPPENING? DO YOU FEEL THAT NEW ELEMENTS
HAVE NO PLACE IN METAL?
-
Dave's A: I feel the listeners need
more substance in their music. In the recent past it seemed as though every
song and band had very few differences. Oh sure there are some exceptions,
give or take a few. Still today listen to your radio, most of the major
acts today have no identifiable characteristics. For example, listen to
GodSmack. From the moment that he starts to sing you know who it is, whereas
how many singers are trying to mimic the dude from Creed. Not that it's
a bad thing, I just want to hear someone tell me in their own voice not
someone else's. Metal is a big world with many subcategories and tastes,
if the music has something to offer then by all means label it "Metal"
5.FILL US IN IN A FEW WORDS ON THE
BAND RELEASES. ARE YOU STILL SATISFIED WITH THEM?
-
Steve's A: We have past releases such
as "Transformation" and the self titled 3 song promo CD. We were happy
with the music at the time but as you now things change... are music writing
I believe is getting better and better. We now have a well versed singer
and that has a great impact on new and some of the existing remakes previously
recorded with the old singer. I think we all can look back on things we
have done musically as trophies and pursue to do it better next time. When
our new release comes out I feel it will conquer everything we have accomplished
in the past.
6.WHICH WERE THE REACTIONS OF THE FANS,
MAGAZINES, ZINES AND LABELS? WHICH WAS THE BEST AND WHICH WAS THE WORST
REVIEW YOU'VE RECEIVED?
-
Well, believe it or not every review
that we received was good to excellent. We did have label interest from
independent to major labels when the 3 song promo was buzzing the industry.
Nothing developed into concrete plans or contract, however all of our contacts
are excited and ready for the new release with our new singer and new music.
7.ARE YOU PLANNING TO RELEASE IN THE
NEAR FUTURE A NEW CD? HAVE YOU COMPOSED ANY NEW SONGS? CAN YOU TELL US
A FEW THINGS ABOUT IT?
-
A: Yes a CD is in the future, most
likely will be a 4-5 song promo. New songs of course, with the exception
of a rework of "Centrifuge" and "In the End", both from the 2000 Promo.
Both of these songs now titled "Within" and "All that remains" have all
new lyrics and melodies. We felt that the way it was previously recorded
by J Davis, really didn't bring out either of songs full potential. The
newest unreleased tunes are "Damaged", "Blood and Faith" and "The Quietroom".
Look for the latest in the near future.
8.WHAT ARE YOUR LYRICS TALKING ABOUT?
WHAT THINGS INSPIRE YOU IN WRITING LYRICS AND WHICH THINGS CAN TAKE AWAY
THE INSPIRATION FROM YOU?
-
A: Most of the new material is broad
in range. It touches on topics from the 9-11 event to Addiction to Child
Abuse and so on. All of which is done in the traditional way of BOF. With
dark moody melodies to the triumphant gallop in "old school" fashion.
9.DO YOU THINK TRIBUTE ALBUMS HELP
THE NEW BANDS?
-
A: Absolutely, tributes give unsigned
and unknown artists a medium in which to reach new audiences. Listeners
are more demanding when it comes to Tribute albums. They'll remember who
did a fantastic job or slaughtered one of their favorite tunes on a remake.
10.HAVE YOU DONe ANY LIVE SHOWS? CAN
YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL BORN OF FIRE LIVE OR HOW WOULD YOU IMAGINE IT TO
BE?
-
Steve's A : As BOF we have done several
shows opening for big act's, however since we joined forces with our singer
Dave, we have concentrated on refacing BOF musically and media wise. We
are also building a digital recording studio from scratch. Construction
should be complete by summer's end and BOF will be in full force to finish
writing the CD and recording all the music. That's the hold up on live
shows. But when we do play live its a tilde wave force.
11.IF SOMEDAY YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO
MEET THE CREATURE THAT CREATED THE UNIVERSE, WHICH WOULD YOUR BIGGEST QUESTION
BE?
-
Daves A: "Where's the Bathroom?"
12.WHICH IS MAN'S BIGGEST TEMPTATION?
-
Dave's A: Man's biggest temptation
is "WOMAN/SEX/MONEY/POWER" not necessarily in that order:)
13.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHICH
HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU MISS
THE MOST FROM OUR TIME?
-
Daves A: Renaissance (sp) :Read previous
answer : Electricity and fast food
14.WHAT PROLOGUE AND TITLE WOULD YOU
LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
-
Born of Fire...Back from the ashes.
15.MANY METAL MUSICIANS ACCUSE POP
STARS FOR THEIR LIFE STYLE, YET WE SEE SUCH BEHAVIOURS IN THE METAL SCENE
AS WELL (BANDS PAYING TO MAKE A COVER FOR SUCCESFUL MAGAZINES, HAVING A
GOOD REVIEW, METAL LABELS PROMOTING SPECIFIC BANDS AND GENRES EACH EPOCH,ETC).IS
IT MAYBE AFTER ALL TRUE THAT THE METAL INDUSTRY DOESN'T DIFFER FROM THE
POP? WHICH ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?
-
Daves A: What's wrong with promoting
your product or service. Afterall, it's business.
16.HOW ARE YOU PLANNING TO PROMOTE
YOUR MUSIC? WHICH SONG OF YOUR DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST IDEAL TO REPRESENT
YOU?
-
Steve's A: We have a lot of contacts
in the industry. Also we have labels that are waiting for our new material
as well as all the mags, webzines and fanzines who have helped BOF in the
past will do the same again. Its all networking and getting your name and
product out everywhere and get it in thy right hands. The best song that
represents BOF at this time is - "Damaged"
17.IF YOU HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO MAKE
A VIDEO CLIP HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE?
-
Got too much on my mind to thinkl about
that. But if we did it would be somthing EPIC, cool and somthing you could
relate to????
18.WHICH IS YOUR MOST BELOVED MOVIE
YOU'VE SEEN LATELY AND WHICH BOOK YOU ENJOYED READING?
-
Steve's A: Mr. Deeds , Orange County
-
Daves A: No movies but thoughraly enjoyed
the Harry Potter Series
19.IF YOU WEREN'T INVOLVED WITH THE
MUSIC, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?
-

you would ask a Miss America contestant. Umm help puppies and kitties...
