CIRCLE
OF NERO
Ok Circle Of Nero is
by far one of the most diverse and weird bands I've ever heard. No category
can fit them in. On one song you can say that they belong in the extreme
scene and a second afterwards you will think that your ears have mistaken
you... What can I say? The more I listen to their demo the more I grow
to like them... Jake is here to fill in the gaps for you...
1.FIRST OF ALL POINT OUT SOME OF
THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY AND INRODUCE YOURSELVES
TO THE READERS.
-
The band was formed in 1997 by myself
Jake Vorrath (drums) and Koky Flores (guitar). Since then we have
had the opportunity to play with some great bands, such as Savatage; Fates
Warning; Malmsteen. Plus we released our first CD in 1999, "Massive
Obliss" After Massive we got a new singer. Gary McCafferey. Killer absolutly
Killer does great clean and Death vocals plays lead guitar and is very
Talented. Also we have added Keyboards. One Mister Scott Carter. Who is
very precise. He adds a Gothic element to the band and also is very funny.
2.WHY DID YOU NAME THE BAND CIRCLE
OF NERO? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SUGGEST? WHICH IS NERO'S CIRCLE?
-
I came up with the name Circle of Nero
based on something I read about the Kross of Nero. Which was a torture
device used by Nero to persecute the Christians. That is not the reason
I chose the name though. I chose the name because it is also a Peace sign
so we could be heavy as a torture device or peaceful. We were not limited
by the name of the band.I changed it to "Circle of Nero" to imply a Secrete
society.sssssh! Our music is so diverse that we didn't want to be stuck
in single genre.
3.YOUR MUSIC IS SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!
HOWEVER, AS I SAID IN THE REVIEW IT'S HARD FOR ME TO CATEGORIZE IT, BUT
IT'S WHAT I CALL TRUE PROGRESSIVE.
TOO MANY ELEMENTS COMBINED AND THE FINAL RESULT IS SOMETHING UNIQUE. SO,
COULD YOU GIVE US YOUR OWN DESCRIPTION OF YOUR MUSIC AND POINT OUT YOUR
MOST IMPORTANT INFLUENCES?
-
Thank you for the compliment!
I'm glad that our music can not be categorized and for you to say it is
something unique, well that is very gratifying. The band is influenced
by many different things, probably life & death being the most influential.
Being that we are artists, we are also "old souls" who have existed throughout
the centuries in one form or another! Sometimes there are memories of a
long forgotten time. Our music is a culmination of this journey.
Some of the bands we have been influenced by are: Black Sabbath; Scorpions;
Led Zeppelin; Judas Priest; Cradle of Filth; Disturbed; Fear Factory; Dream
Theatre, just to name a few. I personally enjoy listening to Cradle
of Fifth; Dimmu Burgir; Finntroll; Nevermore; Savatage; Strapping Young
Lad. I also am influenced by movies such as: The Shining; Lord of the Rings;
Harry Potter, that kind of stuff.
4.YOUR DEMO CONSISTS OF 5 TRACKS. WHICH
ARE YOUR PLANS? WILL YOU SEND IT TO LABELS, MAGAZINES AND ZINES ONLY OR
CAN PEOPLE ORDER IT FROM SOMEWHERE? ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK YOU
GOT THIS FAR?
-
Yes we are sending out demos to labels.
Metal Blade is very interested. Plus we have a few other labels that have
contacted us and you Christine have been very helpful getting us in touch
with other labels. We are very grateful for your help. We have gotten a
lot of good response from magazines and webzines. Plus we get a lot of
Internet play and Metal Radio play as well. I guess we are happy with the
feedback we have gotten so far.
5.TELL US A FEW THINGS REGARDING THIS
DEMO. WHERE WAS IT RECORDED, WHO WAS THE PRODUCER, HOW LONG DID IT TAKE
YOU? ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FINAL RESULT OR IS THERE ANYTHING YOU'D LIKE
TO CHANGE?
-
The CD was recorded in our singer Gary
McCaffery's home studio, it was entirely self produced. Gary engineered
it. We are currently recording five more songs for the full length CD.
Right now we are sending out the Brutal Harvest demo CD.
6.WHERE ARE YOUR LYRICS REFERRING TO?
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE LYRICS AND HOW IMPORTANT ARE THEY FOR YOU?
-
On the Brutal Harvest CD I have only
written one song, "Time is the Killer". Gary wrote the rest of the lyrics.
We like to create strong visual images in your mind and let the listener
draw his own conclusions about what the song may or may not be about.
Some might be about Vampires, who knows. Lyrics are very important to us.
Each song is like it's own little movie so we put a lot of thought into
them.
7.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE APPEARANCES?
CAN YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL CIRLCE OF NERO LIVE SHOW?
-
Yes we do, we would love to tour Europe.
A typical Circle of Nero live show is an extravaganza that must be witnessed.
8.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT
IS NOT AWARE OF YOUR MUSIC IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIM? WHICH IS YOUR MOST
RECOGNIZABLE ELEMENT?
-
Circle of Nero stays under the all
encompassing umbrella of Heavy. Our most recognizable element is
that we are very diverse and not stuck in one genre. I.e.;Death, Black
Metal; Thrash and Nu Metal. We like it all.
9.HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK IS INTERNET
FOR A NEW BAND THAT WANTS TO BECOME FAMOUS? ARE YOU UP OR
AGAINST THE MP3 TRADING TAKING
PLACE ON THE NET?
-
For a band like us the Internet is
a very valuable tool. Hell, you wouldn't have heard about us in Greece
if it wasn't for the Internet. We want for people to share our songs on
the Internet. Help spread the word! Anything I download off of the Internet,
if I like it, I end up buying the CD anyway.
10.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
-
As with the lyrics we would want the
listener to feel what ever emotions are brought out by our music. Without
us stating how we felt when we recorded it.Or the feelings we are trying
to provoke. I know this answer sounds vague but that is how we think.
As far as paintings go, I think it would show some of the experiences that
all of us on this God for saken planet have witnessed.
11.DO YOU THINK THAT GOD GOT SO FRIGHTENED
FROM WHAT HE CREATED THAT HE MOVED TO HEAVENS IN ORDER TO KEEP DISTANCE
FROM HIS CREATURES? :))
-
No. I think that God and Satan are
playing a chess game with our souls. I personally know them both.
12.IF YOU WERE A FLY, WHERE WOULD YOU
LIKE TO BE AND WHY?
-
I would not be a fly landing on shit.
But if I could eavesdrop in on something, I guess it would have to be Area
51.
13.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL
BACK IN TIME WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT?
-
Well being that I am time traveller
I guess I would go back to the Garden.
14.IF YOU COULD ERASE SOMETHING FROM
THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD THIS BE?
15.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR
MUSIC AND YOUR CAREER THIS FAR?
16.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF WE LIVED IN
A WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC? HOW WOULD YOU PIPE ALL YOUR FEELINGS AND ENERGY?
-
I guess I would be a culinary artist
like Emerle. I love cookin on the grill and drinkin beer. Or maybe a serial
killer.
17. THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO
ASK YOU ANYTHING AND YOU'D LIKE TO MENTION?
-
You are quite welcome! I have
enjoyed chatting with you. I would like to say visit us at www.circleofnero.com.We
hope to have our full length Brutal Harvest CD out the early part of next
year, 2004. Thank you.
