Dark Moor is one of the
best known panish metal bands. A few months ago they released their new
album simply entitled "Dark Moor". An album that reveal and presents many
changes in the line up and in the band's musical direction. Alfred Romero,
the band's new singer, is here to talk about these and many more interesting
stuff...
1. FIRST OF ALL CONGRATULATIONS FOR RELEASING
ONE OF THE BEST EUROPEAN POWER METAL ALBUMS FOR THIS YEAR. BUT TELL US,
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS ALBUM? DO YOU BELIEVE IT HAS ANY WEAK MOMENTS?
IF SO, WHICH ARE THEY?
Thank you!! There has been a clear evolution
in the songwriting, the production has improved a lot as well, thanks to
all the time we have been working with Luigi Stefanini. Overall, we think
our best improvement are the guitars, much more agressive and clear on
this record.
2. DARK MOOR PRESENT US WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM,
MANY NEW MEMBERS. WERE YOU ANXIOUS OF HOW THE FANS WOULD ACCEPT YOU? HOW
ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK TILL NOW?
For the moment they have been very well accepted
between the fans and also the press We are really satisfied with the result.
3. YOUR NEW ALBUM "DARK MOOR" HAS INTRODUCED US
MANY CHANGES IN YOUR MUSIC. TO BEGIN WITH, YOU BECAME LESS SYMPHONIC AND
MORE STRAIGHTFORWARD HEAVY METAL. DO YOU AGREE? YOU ALSO NAMED THE ALBUM
"DARK MOOR". WHY? IS IT BECAUSE YOU CONSIDER THIS CD AS THE BEGINNING OF
A NEW CAREER?
Yes!! This album shows the way Anan and Enrik
wanted to follow: straight forward heavy metal but keeping Dark Moor's
essence. That's why the album is called "Dark Moor" , it is a confirmation.
Dark Moor is still alive and it is more Dark Moor than ever.
4. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MADE THE DIFFERENCE
ARE THE GREAT VOCALS OF YOUR NEW SINGER ALFRED ROMERO. DOES HE HAVE ANY
MUSICAL STUDIES? WHERE DID HE SING BEFORE BECOMING A DARK MOOR MEMBER?
Hahaha, well, I actually don't have any musical
studies, started studying singing when I joined Dark Moor because I wanted
to improve. It is a big responsibility being in a band like this. I sang
in some local bands from my city, nothing important.
5. MANY GAVE YOU THE LABEL "THE SPANISH VERSION
OF RHAPSODY" DUE TO YOUR PREVIOUS RELEASES. HOW DO YOU FEEL BEING COMPARED
TO THIS BAND? DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS COMPARISON IS UNFAIR FOR YOUR MUSIC?
We understand people making this kind of comparisons
but we don't agree with that. We do think we are closer to other bands.
Anyway, for us is an honor to be compared with these bands.
6. THE COVER OF THE CD IS VERY BEAUTIFUL AND GAVE
ME THE SENSATION THAT IT'S A BOOK COVER OR A MAGIC MIRROR. WHAT DOES IT
SHOW EXACTLY AND HOW IS IT CONNECTED TO THE LYRICS? IS IT BECAUSE OF THE
FACT THAT MANY SONGS ARE BASED ON NOVELS, YOU MADE IT LOOK LIKE A BOOK?
The cover reflects what Dark Moor is according
to the lyrics of the song "The Dark Moor". It is directly connected with
this song. Now you can let your imagination fly and give it your own point
of view.
7. I WANT TO ASK YOU SOME MORE THINGS ABOUT YOUR
SONG "FROM HELL", WHICH I THINK IS A TRIBUTE TO THE MELODIC DEATH METAL
SCENE AND TO BANDS LIKE IN FLAMES AND DARK TRANQUILLITY. AM I RIGHT? ARE
THE LYRICS OF THE SONG INSPIRED BY THE MOVIE "FROM HELL" THAT NARRATES
THE STORY OF JACK THE REAPER?
Yeah that's right!! This is a song very influenced
by melodic death metal. The lyrics had nothing to do with the movie, it
is actually a song against the war.
8. WHAT'S THE STORY OF "THE BANE OF DANISKY, THE
WEREWOLF" AND WHO IS PAUL NASCHY THAT YOU DEDICATE THIS SONG TO?
Paul Naschy is an Spanish terror actor, very
famous in the U.S.A and Japan, but not very well known in Spain, we call
him "The Spanish Terror Master" so this song is a tribute to his career.
9. IN YOUR SONG "WIND LIKE STROKE" YOU MANAGE
TO PERFECTLY CAPTURE THE TERROR FELT BY ALL THOSE
WHO WERE CONQUERED BY ATTILA OR HAVE SEEN
HIM. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS HISTORICAL PERSONALITY?
To make these songs about Attila we had to
read a lot about that, the legend about Attila is enormous and we could
do a whole album or an opera about this only character. This historical
personality matches perfectly in a heavy metal album.
10. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT
SHOULD THE FANS EXPECT TO SEE FROM THE NEW DARK
MOOR?
We have a European tour with other three bands
(Amaran, Nightmare and After Forever) in January and after that, an extensive
Spanish tour. Dark Moor will offer the fans an innovative and very strong
show, I promise!!!! We will rock you!!! haha
11.IF DARK MOOR'S MUSIC WERE A BOOK, WHICH WRITER
WOULD YOU LIKE TO WRITE IT?
Definetely, Howard Phillip Lovecraft or Edgar
Allan Poe.
12. WHICH PHRASE/TITLE DO YOU THINK COULD SUM
UP ALL THE YEARS OF DARK MOOR'S EXISTENCE AND ALL YOUR EFFORTS?
We can take one from our song "Dark Moor":
"Perhaps I can not win, nor a new world begin, but now and ever in my heart
the Art will be my sin".
13.WHICH SONG WOULD YOU DEDICATE TO THE WOMAN
OF YOUR DREAMS?
Hahaha, well, I haven't met that woman yet.
14.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF WE LIVED IN A WORLD WITHOUT
MUSIC? HOW AND WHERE WOULD YOU CHANNEL ALL YOUR CREATIVITY IN SUCH A CASE?
