Death Angel has come
to be known as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the thriving
Bay Area Thrash Metal Scene in the early 1980s. Now they are coming back
with a new album called the Art Of Dying and Behind the veil questions

ALBUM. CAN YOU TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT THE “SOUND” OF THIS ALBUM?WHAT CAN
EXPECT A METAL FAN FROM THIS ALBUM?

Well we are back, we are ready to deliever
our fresh thrashy sound to the fans of metal. This new album combines the
sound of our previous albums. You can say that we manage to put together
the previous albums and made the “Art Of Dying”
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS AS ATITTLE,
WHERE IS IT REFERRING TO?
-
The Drummer of the band, came up with
this concept. The Art of Dying ic our way of living. It is not that we
are dying all the day (laughs). It’s more philosophical term. The world
is dying around us and we live that every day. We also express our emotions
our return is like we are resurrected from the dead.
SPEAKING OF DEATH, WHAT IS YOUR OPINION
TO THE RECENT TERRORISM ACTS FROM AL KAIDA IN SPAIN AND BAGDAD?
-
I don’t like that. It’s very sad, innocent
people die from terrorists. I don’t agree with the politics of both sides
and I am confused about the future of humanity. It’s a horrible situation
and it must be an end to all this.
AFTER THE TREAD OF “JIHAD” FROM THEMUSULMANS.
DO YOU THINK THAT IF THERE IS GOING TO BE A WAR, IT’S GOINGTO BE A WAR
OF RELIGIONS. CHRISTIANS VS MUSULMANS?

It’s Hard to say…I don’t like the idea
Christians or musulmans joining their followers to fight each other. War
is a very violent act, a disaster. Innocent people die from both sides.
I don’t want that to happen.
BACK TO THE MUSIC….IS IT A CONCEPTALBUM?
OR THERE ARE INDEPENDENT SONGS WITH COMMON REFERENCE?
-
It’s not a concept album, although
there are many songs with the same meaning. Many members participated to
the song writing and we put our experiences into the songs.
WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG AND WHY?
-
Hard to say. It’s like asking from
a father to tell you which of his children loves more. I like every song,
they are unique with their own way and can't say that I have a favorite
song.
DID YOU USE COMPUTERS FOR THE MIXINGAND
RECORDING IN THE STUDIOS? DID YOU EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS?
-
Definitely. With our budget we had
to use computers for the production procedure. We experienced standard
problems such as computer crashes, sudden shut downs If you use many techicall
epuipments you will probably face that kind of problems.
ARE YOU A BAND THAT WILL CHANGE THESTYLE
OF MUSIC YOU ARE PERFORMING IN THE FUTURE?
-
I don’t think so. We always will play
thash be we don’t make the same stuff. We make the albums in our own way.
We will have new ideas and we will make this aggressive music. So we will
keep into our roots and enhance our music with new ideas.
WHICH ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS WITH THE
BAND AND YOUR PERSONAL GOAL?
-
We look forward to play in many countries,
visit new places and feel the people close to us. As a personal goal, I
like to play music, have fresh ideas and enjoy what I do for living.
ARE YOU SATISFIED FROM THE CORRESPONDENCEOF
THE FANS TO YOUR ALBUMS?
-
Yes, we are very happy that the fans
didn’t forget us. They are also happy for us being here and we look forward
to play in Different places including Greece too.
SPEAKING OF TOUR, WHEN ARE YOU PLANNINGTO
PLAY HERE?
-
As I told you, we look forward to play
in different countries and visit places that we never been before. I don’t
know exactly when we are planning to play in Greece for the “Art of Dying”
Tour but we will be here before the end of 2004.
IF YOU HAD A CRYSTAL BALL AND YOU COULDSEE
THE HEAVY METAL IN COLOURS, IMAGINE WHAT COLOUR WOULD YOU CHOOSE FORDEATH
ANGEL?
-
I can see a prismatic rainbow full
of colors. Thrash music is a part of Metal Music which is full of colors.
I think that Death Angel is a full coloured metal band. I can't see a single
colour.
YOU ARE NOT A NEW BAND IN THE GENRE,WHAT’S
YOUR ADVICE TO THE ROOKIES, NEW MUSICANS, WHAT DO THEY HAVE BE AWARE OF?
-
The music business IS hard business.
They must be aware of their choises, the contracts they sign with their
labels and develop themselves. They must practice, try to be original and
have new ideas and looking themselves in the mirror and say that they love
what they are doing. They must keep remembering that they love playing
music and they are blessed with that special gift.
WHICH ARE YOUR HOBBIES? DO YOU HAVEANY
SPARE TIME?
-
Spare Time? What is spare time, I can
hardly say that I have spare time nowadays (laughs). Besides playing music
and jamming with my friends I like to take care my pets. I have reptiles
and many other animals and you can say that here I have a mini zoo. I also
like to ride my mountain bike.
