Disbelief
Disbelief are a band from
Germany, not so well known in our country. This time they make a step forward
with signing to Nuclear Blast and they are about to release a new album
called “66 Sick”. Behind The veil had the chance to interview the main
vocalist of the band for you...
1. Musically speaking tell me in your own
words what musical direction you have followed on this album? Is it a clasical
Disbelief album or are there new elements the fans must take notice of?
We wanted to make a change in our sound, we
wanted to have some faster songs and I think we did it on this album. The
fans must make notice that there are different vocals, more aggressive
and passionate. I practice twice a week and I make sure that me voice is
always in shape.
2. Is “66 sick” a concept album or are there
songs with just common references lyric-wise?
It’s not entirely a concept album. But it
has a general concept. On “66 Sick” we are trying to express our feelings
about all the things that happen in the world. As for the lyrics, we are
not writing something shitty and anti-christian. We are expressing our
personal ideas and beliefs and we are testifying this into our music.
3. Tell me a few words about the cover. I haven’t
had the chance to see it yet...
Well the album is about to be released on
14th March, and we didn’t make our final printings yet. That was a decision
from Nuclear Blast. The new cover will be on-line on a couple of weeks
in our new website.
4. What is your favorite song from the new
album and why?
That is a very difficult question, if I had
to choose one special song for me, that would be “Lost In Time”. That is
referring to the 30 minutes break I have from my work and I have the time
to read some books and take my mind away from what I am doing for eight
or more hours.
5. Which are Disbelief’s sources of inspiration
to compose music and write lyrics?
Our personal experiences of course, things
that we see in life and we are trying to put down our feelings into lyrics
and melodies.
6. How long did it take you for the songwriting
of “66 Sick” and how much time did you spent in the studio?
We spent almost two months in the studio.
We had a computer freak as a producer and we listened to the sound of every
recording we had done so far. I think that we chose the best production,
enhanced it and made it what “66 Sick” is!
7. You’ve changed label recently. You have
moved from Massacre to Nuclear Blast. Weren’t you happy with Massacre?
We decided to leave Massacre because we wanted
more worldwide promotion. Massacre is ideal for promoting bands in Germany,
but we wanted to have better distribution to our records and a worldwide
promotion, which Nuclear Blast will provide us.
8. What are your future plans after the release
of this new album? Are you planning any live appearances? Will we see you
play here in Greece?
We will begin our tour one day before the
release of the new album. We will be touring along with Six Feet Under,
Nile, Dark Funeral and we will have some shows in Germany and then we will
participate in summer festivals. The bad thing is that we will play only
45 minutes and we won’t have the chance to play some new songs. Afterwards
we will begin our own tour and I hope that we will come to play in Greece
for two shows, Athens and Thessaloniki.
9. What do you usually do besides writing music?
Have you got any hobbies?
I am a soccer fan, but I don’t have much time
to watch games or play soccer. If I were a professional soccer player,
I’d have to practice a lot, to be in shape!
10. I wish all the best for you, the band and
the new record!
Thank you very much Costas! I hope we will
meet in an interview session when we visit Greece.
