DISGUISE
Disguise released a while
ago their album under the title “Human Primordial Instinct” presenting
another dimension in how we perceive the world and point out eloquently
the oppression in which we have fallen. Their music? Pure black metal with
some death touches… Need to learn more? Then this interview is exactly
what you need!
1.FIRST OF ALL POINT OUT THE MOST
IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND'S HISTORY AND INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO THE
READERS...
DISGUISE were born in the summer
of 1998, but found the right stability and gave ourselves up to compose
new songs with the arrive of the new drummer AIWASS in the summer of '99.
In January 2000 Disguise recorded two songs that allowed the band to take
part in some metal festival playing with most famous Italian bands like
ABORYM, HORRID, NATRON, NOVEMBRE, SADIST, UNDERTAKERS, WHITE SKULL. In
February 2001 DISGUISE realized their first MCD: "IMPETUS MALI/MORS FIDEI".
The MCD contains 5 new songs plus one (A dreary night of November) extracted
from the old promo, for the total time of 32 min. The MCD received very
good reviews on magazines, webzines and fanzines in the whole world. In
November 2001 DISGUISE won the "Total Rock Contest ", nation-wide competition
organized by MetalHammer. DISGUISE are also member of the ITALIAN METAL
ALLIANCE (I.M.A.). In December 2002 DISGUISE entered in Half Moon
Studios, in Bari, for recording "Human Primordial Instinct", their first
self-produced album.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN IT AND YOUR MCD "IMPETUS MALI/MORS FIDEI". ARE YOU
SATISFIED BY THE FINAL RESULT? IF YOU COULD CHANGE SOMETHING NOW, WHAT
WOULD THIS BE?
We are really satisfied with "Human
Primordial Instinct". It has gained a lot of positive reviews all around
the world. The most important difference between "HPI" and "Impetus Mali/..."
is that our new work is more evil and fast, with some death metal riffs
that give to our sound a great power and impact. On "Impetus Mali/..."
there are a lot of evocative and atmospheric parts that now have given
their place to aggressiveness. I think that now we couldn’t change anything
about “HPI”, we like it in all aspects!
3.WE COULD SAY THAT THE ALBUM IS CONCEPT.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN IN A FEW WORDS TO THE READERS WHAT YOU AIM WITH THESE LYRICS?
THEY ARE DIVIDED INTO 3 SECTIONS. WHY IS THAT? WHAT IS EACH SECTION ALL
ABOUT?
Lyrics of this album denote the
present state of man, obliged by morals and false ethics to lose his real
“humanity”. But there is an alternative instead the wrong passivity of
human action.
“HUMAN PRIMORDIAL INSTINCT” examines
this topic through three steps:
1- “MENS OBSCURATA DOLE”: human
brain is obscured by deceit of promises never coming true, by deceit of
words that taste of lies. Men follow other men, erring. This is the greater
mistake of man, living without being conscious of it.
2- “NOSTRA HUMANA RESURRECTIO”:
another way of living exists, where man is master of his fate. It’s necessary
to go back to the past, to remove ages of moral repressions. It’s necessary
to retake “HUMAN PRIMORDIAL INSTINCT”, this is our human resurrection.
Every man can awake from nowadays sopor to come back to life in the right
way.
3- “SETTIMA PROPOSIZIONE: IL RESTO
E’ CONSEGUENZA”(Seventh proposition: rest is consequence): Everyone can
do what he wants to do, but going towards result of his own actions.
“Il resto è conseguenza”, seventh and last proposition against Christianity
written on 1888 in the “Antichrist” by Nietzsche, summarizes this concept.
4.YOUR COVER ARTWORK IS R E A L L Y
DISGUSTING!!!! WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SOMETHING LIKE THAT? WHAT DO YOU WANT
TO EXPRESS OR SUGGEST? IS IT THE PRIMORDIAL INSTINCT WHAT YOU WANT TO SHOW?
You can consider this from two
points of view: eating a brain summarizes all the concept kept in our lyrics,
it is an example of destroying the oppressions and it is also a provocation.
Besides the man on the cover is our singer and he eats the brains also
in our live shows: it is a really splatter moment!
5.YOU TOOK PART IN THE "TOTAL ROCK
CONTEST" AND YOU GOT THE FIRST PLACE. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT? DOES
THIS CREATE MORE ANXIETY TO YOU? SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH US.
Really this experience has not
changed a lot of things for us. We have got some exposure on the magazine
and in the web but nothing more. It has been a great experience but no
more than this.
6.HOW IMPORTANT IS IMAGE, PHILOSOPHY
AND IDEOLOGY BEHIND A BAND? WHICH IS THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND DISGUISE?
All these aspects are really important
to us. Our philosophy is clear and is obvious in our lyrics. We don’t trust
no-transcendental entity, positive or negative. The only thing that we
trust in is man and His ability to free himself from religious and moral
oppressions.
7.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS
AND GENERALLY WHAT PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE FUTURE? YOU PLAYED IN THE
PAST WITH SOME FAMOUS ITALIAN BANDS. WHICH ONE WAS THE MOST FRIENDLY AND
HELPFUL TO YOU? WHICH WAS THE BEST SHOW YOU REMEMBER?
Our best live experience was when
we played with Aborym. We played in front of His Majesty Attila Cshiar
and when we played “Freezing Moon” as a cover he sung it along with us
being off stage! That was a great night for us. For the future we will
play some gigs in the end of January in Italy and more in next months.
We are also planning some dates in Europe for March, we hope to do them!
8.WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THAT
DOESN'T KNOW YOU, IN ORDER TO INTRIGUE HIS INTEREST? WHICH IS YOUR MOST
APPEALING ELEMENT ACCORDING TO YOU?
Our music is the result of the
ideas, the passion and the beliefs of five guys that give all to the music.
We have worked a lot for carrying on Disguise and all you will listen will
be the sum of our lives.
9.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT
WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
Certainly it should be passion,
and evilness I think. As a painting our cd should show the attempt of man
to free himself and to be reborn in a new skin.
10.IF YOU HAD A PROPOSAL TO DO A VIDEOCLIP,
WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?
I don’t care about a video clip
now. It is something too far from us. But if I should imagine it, I will
prefer a live-video.
11.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK
YOU GOT TILL NOW? IS THERE A COMMON STATEMENT YOU SEE REPEATED IN ALMOST
ALL THE REVIEWS YOU READ?
Yes we are really satisfied by
the feedback from the media and from the fans! All the responses are really
positive. This has surprised me! A common statement is the underlining
of our Death influences. These are really spontaneous and not planned.
12.IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO TRAVEL
BACK IN TIME, WHICH HISTORICAL PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY?
Certainly the end of 1800 – the
beginning of 1900. In these years we find our philosophical inspirations.
These where ages of transformation and we prefer mobility to stability.
13.WHICH IS ACCORDING TO YOU YOUR BEST
AND WHICH IS YOUR WORST ELEMENT? IN WHICH FIELD DO YOU THINK YOU NEED FURTHER
IMPROVEMENT?
Our good quality is that we really
trust in what we do and we will continue to do it without doubts. We also
have a unique sound in music and it is a great thing of course! But of
course we have to improve in all fields, in originality, in live shows
but especially we will always do the best, always!
14.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT WE LIVE IN A
WORLD WITHOUT MUSIC. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN SUCH A CASE?
I would invent music! It is not
possible living without it!
15.WHICH SONG WOULD YOU DEDICATE TO
THE WOMAN OF YOUR DREAMS?
I don’t know…I’m not really romantic!
I think “Transylvanian Hunger”! Or “I will kill you”!!!

YOU LIKE TO HAVE TAKEN PART OR HAVE COMPOSED?
Mmm, I don’t know. I think this
kind of things are for bands like P.O.D and so on…
