Wish
Some months ago I received
a package with the demo of DYING WISH and with no other info inside. Their
music was very good, but the bad thing was that I couldn't find a way to
communicare with them. Recently I received an email from them and we did
this interview, which is very interesting because the band is in a transitive
period...
1.HELLO! AFTER A LONG TIME AND SEARCHING,
WE FINALLY
MANAGED TO DO THIS INTERVIEW. SO, ARE THERE
ANY NEWS FROM THE BAND'S CAMP?

hi there.well, at this time we are taking a short
break.all the members except from nick left the band.By september we are
moving to athens where we will start searching for a singer, a drummer
and a guitarist.

two years ago a friend asked me to go to his place
and play some music with him. there i met nick and after that we both wanted
to create a band.we found some guys and we started playing.at the beginning
we were a cover band. we played almost everything... anathema,metallica,led
zeppelin, iron maiden, slayer, system of a down, black sabbath and others.during
that, i wrote some songs that the band agreed to play and record in a demo.
the line up tat that time was: theodosis chatzistergos:guitas, keyboards
- nick papayiannis:bass - sebastian chatzisaavvas: vocals - angel vaggelis:
vocals and fivos papadopoulos: drums after that nick and fivos had to leave
the band because of the army.we changed line up and we played for
another year and after lots of changes the current line up is: theodosis
chatzistergos: guitars, keyboards and nick papayiannis: bass
3.WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE NAME "DYING WISH" FOR
THE
BAND? DOES IT HAVE A SPECIAL MEANING TO YOU?
DID YOU
TAKE IT FROM THE ANATHEMA SONG?

we couldn't decide what name we should use and
i saw the title of the anathema's song, i liked it. i said it to the guys
and they agreed to use it. the problem is that i found that there is another
band with that name, so we will have to change it...
4.YOUR SOUND CAN BE DESCRIBED AS ATMOSPHERIC ROCK
/ METAL. DO YOU AGREE? WHICH BANDS STAND AMONGST
YOUR INFLUENCES? DOES ANATHEMA'S MUSIC HAVE
A SPECIAL PLACE IN YOUR HEARTS?

i don't believe in brackets.i believe that a band
can have two songs in the same album that are totally different and the
bracket doesn't fit both.anathema is indeed one of my favourite bands,
they have something special that you don't find very often in a band.i
don't know if the bands i will tell have influenced my songwritting, but
they are the bands i like the most.anathema,sentenced,rainbow,pink floyd,dream
theater,pain of salvation,savatage.
5.YOU USE 2 SINGERS, SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T SEE
VERY OFTEN. WHICH IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH
THE DUAL VOCALS?

there many more possibilities when you use two
singers, you can express different feelings easier.
6.EXCEPT FOR THE DEMO I REVIEWED, HAVE YOU RELEASED
ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE? ARE YOU SATISFIED BY
THE FINAL
RESULT? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU 'D LIKE TO CHANGE?

no, it's our first work.this demo wasn't very
a team work and that is what i don't like most.after that i don't like
the production.some songs' music will be changed a bit and the greek lyrics
will be altered.
7.WHERE WAS THE ALBUM RECORDED? DID YOU PRODUCE

YOURSELVES OR DID YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL HELP?
WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DID YOU EARN FROM THIS?

the demo was recorded in my pc in my house and
the drums were programmed in cubase.here in kos there is no studio and
we didn't knew anyone who could help us with the production, so i did it
myself.it's good to be the one that makes the production because you know
how the songs should hear, but it's better if you leave someone who knows
how to do it.....
8.DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW COMPOSITIONS READY? HOW
DO THEY SOUND? WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO RELEASE THEM?

we have almost 11 new songs.they surely sound
different. i believe every song has a different mood from the others,
they are not all so sad, as the demo was.i believe that in the first months
of 2005 it will be released, but this time will be recorded in a studio.
9.HAVE YOU DONE ANY LIVE SHOWS OR IS DYING WISH
A
STUDIO BAND?

i want dying wish to be a live band not a studio
band. here in kos we gave two shows before we take the break. there aren't
many people here that listen to this kind of music, so it's difficult for
a band to survive.
10.WHICH ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? HOW ARE
YOU
PLANNING TO PROMOTE YOUR WORK?

we don't care if we sign with a company, but we
want to give lots of shows when we'll move to athens and let the people
listen how we play our songs live.
11.I BELIEVE THAT YOU MUST HAVE SENT THE DEMOS
TO MANY FANZINES AND LABELS. ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE RESPONSE AND THE
FEEDBACK YOU RECEIVED? ANY INTEREST FROM LABELS?

we didn't sent it to many fanzines or labels,but
the response from the people was great,i didn't expect anything like that.
none label has shown interest about our music.after all it's too soon and
as i told before it's not the main purpose.the main purpose is to give
lots of shows and let our music to be heard that way.
12.WHICH IS, ACOCRDING TO YOU, THE BEST ELEMENT
IN
YOUR MUSIC AND WHICH THINGS DO YOU THINK YOU
NEED TO CORRECT?

i think the best element in our music is that
we write what we feel and what we like.the band will move on with it's
sound.every new song sounds different to a previous one, so i won't say
that i would like to correct something.
13.YOU USE GREEK LYRICS IN ONE OF YOUR SONGS INSTEAD
OF ENGLISH. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO THAT?

a friend of mine had given me a poem that she
wrote and one night while i was reading it, i grabbed the guitar and played
some chords while singing the poem's lyrics. actually there is no particular
reason why we put a song in greek in a cd that all the other songs are
in english.

WITH? WHO WROTE THEM?

the two singers wrote the lyrics and the greek
lyrics were written by christina mparmparousi.well the topics they deal
are maybe, sadeness,loneliness.i didn't write the lyrics so i'm not suitable
in talking about them.
15.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT
BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?

i believe that if the songs of the demo were an
emotion that would surely be sadeness.i don't know about the painting but
i can tell you that for me every song in the demo can be described by a
colour. for me "my sacred time" is purple, "lonely life" is yellow "the
word i want to say' is green,"Otan Tha Xaseis To Onoma Sou (= when you
will loose your name)" is red and "thinking of you" is blue.
