FALCONER. A new band. A new album.
A challenge! An opportunity! The ability of the mind to travel on earth,
in other dimensions, the ability of breaking the chains of time and travelling
in the past or the future. Stefan Weinerhall makes an offer.Accept it?
You win!!Deny it? You loose! Your decision to make.It might be too early
to talk about a classic diamond in the epic metal scene. Time will tell...
-
1.First of all congratulations on your
work!It was amazing!!
-
Stefan:Thank you very
much. We are very satisfied with it our selves, infact I've never been
this satisfied with any of my previous albums I've recorded.
-
2. Introduce the band to the fans.
-
Stefan:It's me Stefan
on guitars and bass. I've been playing with bands as Mithotyn and Indungeon
in the past but now only with Falconer and a little fun project called
Atryxion.
-
Karsten the drummer also played in
Mithotyn and as also been in Dawn a while but are as I consentrating on
Falconer now.
-
Our singer Mathias is a newcomer to
the Metalscene. His history deals mostly with musicals and theatres but
we think that his voice is the perfect one for the band and thankfully
he like the music I make allthough he is no fan of Metal music.
-
3. Two of the band members also played
in MITHOTYN. What do you think the fans of MITHOTYN might say?
-
Stefan:The response
so far from Mithotyn fans has been overwhelming, but then I have only heard
from the ones that loved Falconer ofcourse, but I think that most Mithotyn
fans will love Falconer too since I think that the music of the two bands
have the same kind of atmospher in them allthough brought out in some what
a different way.
-
4. Who composes the music and who is
responsible for the lyrics? Is there an inner need to express some things
that keeps you going? Where does your mind travel you?
-
Stefan:I am the
sole writer of both the music and lyric. I try not to take any direct influence
but bring the music out from my inner self. If my mind brings me somewhere
it would be into the past. Past civilasation and tales, history is my biggest
interest besides from music.
-
5. Which bands are your most beloved?
-
Stefan:Jethro tull,
Rainbow,Mike Oldfield, Dio, Roxette, and many more.
-
6. Are you thinking of taking a MITHOTYN
song and making it sound closer to common heavy metal sound?
-
Stefan:No, I don't live
in the past and I have enough with new ideas so I don't have to recycle
old ones. I think that it could turn out pretty good though, but I rather
do fresh stuff.
-
7. Would you like to take part in a
music soundtrack? Which song of yours would you choose and for which movie?
-
Stefan:Yeah, that
would be great. I think “A quest for the crown” would fit pretty good into
some historical movie as “Highlander” or so. But I think that it's pretty
hard to get a heavymetalsong to be a soundtrack, I think the moviemaker
would prefer something more smoother.
-
8. Which are your aims with this album?
I know that you don't want to perform live. If the album goes well will
you reconsider?
-
Stefan:If the album
goes really well and the demands get too high and we don't go bankrupt
to go on a tour we might reconsider, you know we have other things to think
of to. Mathias has his musicals as mainjob, so they can not collide and
Karsten and I must be able to get of from work too. We have no plans of
whatsoever to do it for now though.
-
9. You often refer in your lyrics to
history and days long gone. Are you interested in ancient times and how
important do you think they are to contemprorary people and civilization?
-
Stefan:Yes, I'm
very interested in long gone times. The today is what it is because of
what has been but I think people in common don't care too much about the
past, they rather chase the time for some money.
-
10. Many are those who say that people
who play and love epic metal are living in their own immaginary world,
without realizing what's going on in the world. What do you have to answer
to them?
-
Stefan:I
come to think of all these roleplaying people who really try to live in
the world of Tolkien or something. One have to live in the present, one
can't not consentrate ones life on the dreams you have, that's pretty pathetic
I think. I have the history as a hobby you could say where I can flee to
but I'm still left in this time knowing that this is for real and not forgetting
what is happening for real in my life. It's up to each guy, how they
want to live.
-
11. You have an amazing artwork. Which
is the connection with the lyrics? Does it refer to a specific song?
-
Stefan:No
it don't. I just wanted a cover that could represent the music and lyrical
atmosphere of the band and I think it really does. The artist is Jan Meininghaus
who did it after a detailed description from me, it turned out perfect
in my point of view.
-
12. If you haven't released not one
album ever, which song of yours would you choose to make yourself known
to the fans?
-
Stefan:A quest
for the crown, it's a perfect midieval metalsong I think.
-
13. Have you read any books lately?
Which are your favorite ones? Have you seen a movie that you really liked?
-
Stefan:The
last book I read was “Polgara the sorceress” by Dave Eddings, he and Tolkien
are my fave writers allthough I try not to write about the subjects they
do since too many bands do it allready.
-
The best movie I've seen is ehh ehh,
I don't think I have any fave movie, most historical medieval ones is great.
Then we have normal movies as Titanic and Almost famous which I also think
is great. The movies comes and goes, I never feel that strong about them
I think one grows into a book much more.
-
14. Talking with Mark Briody, guitarist
of JAG PANZER he refered to you with many good words, saying that your
album is one of the few new releases that amazed him. What do you have
to say?
-
Stefan:Well,
if what you say is true I am very honoured by his words. It seems like
both he and I are not oftenly that facinated of new bands, I rather listen
to bands from the 70s and 80s, both pop, rock and metal instead of the
new bands. I mean, they are good musicians but they seem to bring out the
same music all the time, but I must say that I really like Edguy,
great music and voice.
-
15. It is very often nowadays the bands
to call musicians from other bands or to use orchestra. Would you ever
consider to do something like that?
-
Stefan:Ehh,
what do you mean really. If I could use other bands musicians to play on
Falconerstuff? Maby, but I have no plans to do it. Orchestra? OH yes, I
would love to do it but they charge prtty good I imagine.
-
16. Do you think female vocals offer
much to the atmosphere of each song? Will you use more of them in the future?
-
Stefan:Hopefully
Ulrika will help us out in the future too, I think a female vocal fills
out and enhances the choirs a bit, it brings a new personality instead
of just Mathias doing the choirlines over and over again.
-
17. Are you thinking of having a band
merchandise?
-
Stefan:Well,
that's really up to the label but hopefully yes.
-
18. Thank you very much! Give a message
to the fans!
-
Stefan:Thank
you very much. Cheers to all the Greek fans (if there is any), we have
an official site now (yet pretty small) on www.falconer-metal.com
check it out if you can in the future. All the best to you all.
