Forces @ Work
Forces @ Work is a unique and original musical endeavor that will catch most of you by surprise with the diversity and freshness of their sound! If you call yourselves open minded and you are in search of something really special then make sure you will listen to this band. So, as for now, start by reading this informative interview and step into their world!

1. YOUR MUSIC IS REALLY COMPLEX WITH A FUSION-JAZZ MENTALITY. HAVE YOU GOT ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE KINDS OF MUSIC?
Our bassplayer has a second band, entirely jazz-based. The 2nd guitarist's former band had a lot of funk in it and me and the other guitarist (and for a while even the bassplayer) were playing in a band called THOUGHTSPHERE, which played progMetal.
2. THE GUITAR WORK SOUNDS 100% COMBINED AND SYNCHRONIZED. ARE YOU SURE ADRIAN AND MISCHA ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON? CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT IT AND YOUR COMPOSING PROCEDURE?
No, sorry, 2 guitarists;-) they just are really good and tight. Composing goes like this: someone has a basic idea and we all have opinions and suggestions for alterations. Every idea is taken seriously and at least we try to see how it sounds. That way in the end you really come up with the best result and everyone is satisfied.
3. FORCES @ WORK SOUND LIKE A MIXTURE OF ATHEIST, CYNIC, CORONER ANDMEKONG DELTA. WOULD YOU CALL ONE OF THE ABOVE NAMES YOUR INFLUIENCE?
Not really. We all grew up with those bands, but I wouldn't call us huge fans or even influenced. You shouldn't forget DEATH, they are faves of our drummer's. I'm more into nuMetal, which shines through mostly in song 5, which is based on my ideas mostly. Our musical tastes are quite diverse. We all like metal, but also everybody is into stuff like classic, jazz, funk.
4. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO BE AGGRESSIVE AND TECHBICAL AT THE SAME TIME?IS YOUR SOUND MORE DEATH, THRASH OR JAZZ?
I see us as a nu[thrash]metal-band with jazz/funk influences and, no, it's not difficult to be like this. It just comes out naturally. We are all flowing on the same wavelength and composing is as easy as pie...
5. I THINK THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE TRACK IN THIS DEMO IS "HARVEST AT THE BODYFARM" WHICH COMBINES ALL THE DIFFERENT ELEMENTS YOU USE IN THEBEST WAY. DO YOU AGREE AND IF NOT WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG?
"Harvest" rocks, yes, and I agree that it combines everything we are within its 5min. There's progMetal a la Psychotic Waltz in the beginning, a bit funk/jazz interwoven and that lovely Machine Head-like metalCore part. It's the song I like 2nd best. My favorite clearly would be "Husk Of The Withered Moth".
6. ANDREAS' VOCALS ARE REALLY DISTINCTIVE AND IN THEIR MAJORITY HARSH BUT MELODIC, EXCEPT ONLY FOR THE LAST SONG. HOW DO YOU AND HE KNOWS WHERE TO USE THE ADEQUATE VOCAL TYPE?
Oh, well, I just go with the music and its feeling while composing. It mostly fits the first time. If the others disagree with a certain voice I use on certain intsrumental-parts, we or I try it differently and again in the end everybody will be satisfied.
7. THE FINAL SONG "HUSK OF THE WITHERED MOTH" SOUNDS MUCH DIFFERENTLY THAN THE REST OF THE DEMO, WITH A SORT OF NU-METAL MAIN RIFF AND A CLEARLY DEATH METAL MIDDLE PART. IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIAL YOU WANT TO SAY THROUGH THAT SONG?
Jump da fuck up! That's the message... ;-) The thing is I love Slipknot and this song should be understood as kinda hommage to those great musicians. I wanted a simple metalCore-riff to open and some bay area-thrash to follow topped off by a bit of deathmetal (blastbeats and the like). The middle and ending are clearly influenced by Fear Factory and mostly Meshuggah.
8. ALL FIVE SONGS HAVE REALLY PECULIAR TITLES. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LYRICS? IS HE FOND OF WORDS THAT INQUIRE THE MIND?
I sure do. What's the point in stupid songtitles? My musicians are working their fingers to the bone to come up with the most technical stuff on their instruments, so it's my responsibility to make up prententious titles.
9. HOW DO FORCES @ WORK FEEL ABOUT THE FACT THAT ALMOST EVERY BAND THAT CHOSE THIS FIELD, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY WERE, SOONER OR LATER ENDED UP BEING ONLY A SWEET MEMORY IN THE MINDS OF FEW? WHAT IS YOUR TARGET AS A GROUP?
I think we got a real chance because we blend all available styles and I guess there's an acceptance for this music right now. Look at Into Eternity and their success. Guess we'll follow in a year or two.
10. THE DEMO TITLE SEEMS LIKE A MIXTURE OF THE WORDS FORCE AND FOSSIL. IS THERE A STORY BEHIND IT? MAYBE IT CONNECTS TO MY PREVIOUS QUESTION (ABOUT THE FUTURE OF ALL BANDS OF THIS GENRE).
No, just looked cool and I had this idea with this pun that mixed a part of our name into something else. I'm glad you noticed. Not everobody does. We were even accused of spelling the word "fossilized" wrong ;-)
11.WHICH ELEMENTS AND EMOTIONS DO YOU THINK THAT YOU'D LIKE TO EVOLVE MORE ON YOUR NEXT ALBUM AND WHY?
We'll go one step further into each direction. More jazz/funk, more deathmetal, more progMetal and more nuMetal. Sometimes all within one song together, sometimes just one style for one song. Already got 4 new songs for the coming CD 2005, and it's still F@W. So,  don't you worry...
12.IF TIME TRAVEL WAS POSSIBLE, WHAT PERIOD WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHY?
2 month ago when I put my jeans with a girl's phonenumber in the washing-machine and never saw or heard from her again...
13.WHICH WORDS DO YOU THINK DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY AND WHAT PHRASE SUMS UP YOUR CAREER THIS FAR?
Here to be a big pain in the asses of mainstream-metal! If you're true, you suck!
14.ARE YOU SATISFIED BY THE FEEDBACK YOU GOT THIS FAR? IS THERE A COMMON STATEMENT YOU GET TO READ OFTEN (REGARDING YOUR MUSIC)?
Feedback is 90% great throughout europe. It's fun to read all this reviews so far. Most folks are glad to hear something new and fresh and understand what we are trying to do, but some morons are just plainly not into the joke and become hostile towards us for being so diverse. We couldn't care less, because we'll be laughing last.
