FUCK
THE FACTS
FUCK
THE FACTS it's an open minded extreme metal band with no problem of mixing
other kinds of music with metal. They are also cool guys and i really agree
with them in many things. So,go on and read the interview...
1.GIVE US A SHORT BAND BIO. WHO
ARE FUCK THE FACTS? WHAT DID YOU HAVE IN MIND WHEN FOUNDING FUCK THE FACTS?
-
I started FTF in January 98 as my "solo"
project. I used to play in alot of death metal bands, but i had so many
other musical interests and i couldn't use them in my bands. So, i started
FTF to do whatever i want musically; grind, noise, jazz, disco... the idea
is still the same now. The only difference is now there's 4 of us doing
whatever we want. The current FTF line up is Mel Mongeon, Matt Connell,
Tim Audette, and myself.
2.READING YOUR BIO I SAW QUITE MANY
CHANGES IN THE LINE UP. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? PEOPLE STARTING WITH THE
SAME VISION, ENDING UP WITH DIFFERENT IDEAS AND NEEDS?
-
We've only had 2 people part ways with
the band, and it's always been the same reason. Basically, it's a responsiblity
being in FTF, it's alot of work and you have to make sacrifices like weekends
away from home and band practises, etc... It's not for everyone,
and it wasn't for our past members. We've never had problems with having
the same vision cause we always us everyones influences and ideas.
3.HOW DID YOU SELECT THE NAME FUCK
THE FACTS? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY? DO YOU THINK THAT IT'S EASY FOR YOU
TO MAKE A CAREER WITH THIS NAME? DON'T YOU THINK THAT FANS WANT MORE "USUAL"
AND "ORDINARY" NAMES? ISN'T
YOUR NAME A LITTLE RADICAL?
-
I just like the way it sounds. I didn't
even think about the fact that there's a swear word in it, and i don't
really care. I think it is the best description of the band and what we
are trying to accomplish with it, which is whatever we want. We've had
certian problems with posters in smaller towns and such, but nothing ever
really bad. We've even gotten some free press in local papers and radio
cause of how obscene our name is! ha! As for making a "career" we've never
had a problem with any of the labels we've worked with, and we're totally
happy with it. If someone has a hard time liking us just cause our name
isn't ordinary enough, then hopefully they won't like us cause our music
isn't "ordinary" enough either.
4.HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSICAL
STYLE? WHICH BANDS DO YOU LIKE AND WHICH DO YOU DISLIKE?
-
I would have to say that at this point
in time we definitly lean alot more to grind. I've been calling us "Experimental
Grindcore" lately, but who knows, next year we could be "Industrial Ska
Violence". It's all gonna depend on who's in the band, and what we wanna
do. Just don't call us late for dinner. I dislike AC/DC, i don't know why,
but i find they're sound very annoying... other then that just racist,
facist and homophobic bands make my shitlist. Bands i'm enjoying at the
moment are; Estradasphere, Painkiller, Contrastic, Nembrionic, Pig Destroyer,
Blood Duster, Burnt By The Sun, and many many more... i love music and
discovering new bands is always great fun.
5.DO YOU THINK THAT METAL MUSIC SHOULD
HAVE ITS LIMITS OR SHOULD IT BE ENRICHED BY OTHER GENRES? WHICH GENRE DO
YOU FIND TO BE CLOSER TO METAL?
-
Well i think people should do whatever
the fuck they wanna do. If you wanna mix every style of music on the planet
into one, go for it, or if you wanna start an Iron Madien cover band and
only play old school metal you should do that as well. People seem to get
to frustrated when people are just doing what they enjoy. If you like it,
listen to it, if you dont..then don't buy it. Personally, i like music
without limits and i think mixing genres is great fun... but it's not for
everyone. I think the closest genre to metal is hardcore, actually new
hardcore is metal... nuff said.
6.TELL US A FEW THINGS FOR ALL YOUR
RELEASES. TELL US MORE THINGS FOR THE LATEST "MULLET FEVER". ARE YOU STILL
SATISFIED WITH IT?
-
We recorded "Mullet Fever" in Fall
2001. Most trax were written off the floor in one night, and later we added
vocals and other little things to finish it off. It was really different
then any other recording we've ever done, but we are all very happy with
the way it turned out and we've been getting great response. That's one
of the advantages to having our own recording studio, it really let's us
experiment alot. Prior to that we recorded "Four0ninE" a five song 3" cd
which was recorded when we were a 5-peice soon after we started jamming
as a band. Just before that a split with Ames Sanglantes was recorded with
us as a 3 peice (before our singer and bass player joined).. this recording
is one of the most experimental things we've done as a band, it was a 15
minutes ambient noise metal song. Before that all the recordings were just
me; "Discoing The Dead", "Vagina Dancer", and "Fuck The Facts". Many other
splits, etc.. have also been released over the years.
7.DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE?
WHICH WILL YOUR NEXT STEP BE?
-
Right now, we're working on a new album
and at the same time working with our new singer. Mel joined us just as
we started recording so now we're taking our time to let her learn all
the new songs before we do her trax. We've also, be talking to other bands
and labels about future splits and release, but nothing set in stone yet.
We've been playing live regularly with a couple of Canadian mini-tours
in mind for the summer.
8.YOU MADE SPLIT WORKS WITH OTHER BANDS.
WHICH BAND DO YOU FIND TO BE MORE INTERESTING? HOW CAN A SPLIT ALBUM HELP
THE BANDS?
-
Split albums are great cause it gets
your music out to another audience, lot's of the time in another country.
I've always enjoyed having our stuff out on splits and we'll keep doing
it. We have about 7 split tapes, 2 split cdrs, and 1 split 7" out at the
moment. I really enjoy our split 7" with Kastrat, they're a great band
and it's the newest thing to come in so i still dig listening to it...
Other great bands include S.M.E.S. (who we've done 2 split tapes with),
Mastectomia, Long Dream Dead, Ames Sanglantes, Conure, Cult Of The Damned,
Retch, and many more...
9.YOU WERE FORMED IN 1998. HOWEVER
IT WAS ONLY TWO YEARS AFTER IN 2000, THAT YOU STARTED THINKING OF LIVE
SHOWS. WHY?
-
Well, when it was just me it was more
of just a recording project. Later when i started jamming with Matt (drummer)
is when we could think of making it a live band. I always knew i
wanted FTF to play live as well, i just had to hook up with the right people
to make it happen.
10.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU COULDN'T
COMPOSE MUSIC?
-
I'd probably move to a cottage, drink
beer, smoke pot , read books and write.
11.WHICH THING WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE
VANISHED FROM THE WORLD?
-
Mainly, ignorance. Hating people cause
they are different seems to be the worst thing humans still do.
12.IF YOU HAD EXTREME AND COMPLETE
POWER FOR ONE DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
13.WHICH IS THE BIGGEST TEMPTATION
TO MAN?
-
Humans are naturally greedy, thus all
temptations that come with greed like sex, money, etc...
14.WHAT PROLOGUE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS
INTERVIEW TO HAVE? GIVE ALSO A TITLE TO OUR TALK.
-
Like a phone call at the end of summer
this Canadian latindiscogrindfusionfolkcore band will melt the hearts of
children world-wide and teach us all a lesson in friendship and genital
poison ivy infections. title: 16 things you never wanted to know, but feel
compelled to read about Fuck The Facts.
15.WHICH MOVIE HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY
AND LIKED VERY MUCH?
-
Actually, just last night i watched
a movie called "Ratopolis". It was a documentry about rats. It gives you
a close up look into the life of rats and why they do all the things they
do. There was some fuckin' gross shit in there and it was killer educational.
16.THANK YOU!IS THERE ANYTHING YOU
THOUGHT WHILE ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS AND DIDN'T HAVE THE CHANCE TO SAY?
-
